Accidentally gave myself depression this episode. The next one will for sure be about something happy, right? Right!? It's up on the archive for patreon supporters, coming to YT soon. Enjoy!
i wish shivers talked to you more lol. I appreciate shivers so much, and you show just as much of it as i do, your reactions are so thoughtful and introspection. I await everything this series has to offer.
"Please game no more depressing things this episode"
The game " oh.. i see you havent been paying attention.
*Dead body appears*
If it's not the next one, we should have some lighthearted things coming up too. :D And you found the dating spot on this episode despite the game not mentioning it explicitly.
I adore the fact that as soon as Harry learns about the Col Do Ma Ma Daqua he thinks he hears it the second he walks outside.
He is an incredibly sensitive instrument.
In some clinics he would even be called ‘special’.
Euro: "I'm gonna make this a light-hearted episode!"
Revachol: Yeah, so anyway...
So close to *that* telephone, and so close to *HARDCORE*
HAAAAAARD
COOOORE!
HARDCORE
TO THE MEGA
Is it tho?
HARDCORE TO THE MEGA!
"Lilienne, do you want to go on a... Oh wait, I'm shivering and see things. Hold on for an hour or two, please."
Im glad you have your cats to snuggle when sad game makes you sad. My cat just yells at me as if I should suck it up.
This game brings you to the darkest pit of hell and shows you that you were the light you needed all along.
Be like the seagull
A candle's shine is most noticeable in the dark.
Look to the light within, so that you may continue to serve as a beacon to others
Watching this on the bus on my way to work, and just had a real-life Shivers moment: Right when you started talking about abandoned communal spaces (38:00), we drove past an old brick building. On the dusty, empty window, someone had written with their finger: "Preserve me!"
The pay phone on the boardwalk has a great scene you won’t want to miss. You have to call a few numbers before it kick in but it’s worth it
Mio hasn’t been able to interrupt the streams, so she interrupts these intros instead! Get him Mio 😸
lost morale from touching a seagull shit and regained morale from thoughts about seagulls
I wish you had Kim but it’s still fine to be alone! It’s always good to have a more level headed person with you. Especially someone who knows that they know what they’re doing if that makes sense.
Or, if you’re always the voice of reason, like Kim, it’s good to have someone to be fun with, like Harry, someone who gives credence to the crazy, the implausible.
The jacket still has its own character arc to go through, as long as there's someone to help it on its journey to recovery and healing ;)
Thats a beautifull way of putting it
it's the jackeeeeet 🤌🤌
Huh? Okay, tell me, i never thouht it has more than the albatross poop gag
@disnagburnazog9552 Spoiler
You can talk to Isobel in the fishing village and ask her to wash it for you. You get a wearable jacket afterwards.
I'm only like 10 seconds in, but I HAVE to say that kitty is so cute and adorable
She loves huggies 😭
Please remember to check the traps! You promised Morell, and he won't go back to Lena until you do :( Also, Kim used to be Moralist, but he became disillusioned with Moralism because it maintains the status quo above actually making positive social progress.
Genuine question: why would you say Kim is disillusioned with moralism? During my play throughs I always got the impression that upholding the status quo is what Kim thinks is best, or at least better than the alternatives
@@ic5889 because he no longer identifies as a moralist, he tells you that on the balcony on the first night. Someone else could probably do a better job explaining it, but he tells you that the years of work changed the way he feels, he believes in the RCM, but doesn't really know how to identify anymore. It'll take too long to go looking for sources now, but throughout the game he makes comments about certain regulations that the MI have put in place, that doesn't really make a lot of sense, and just keeps things stagnant.
You maybe are not playing it “optimal” and you might miss some “golden scenes”, but you’re getting so much from this journey… and you’re giving me another angle on the game and the characters. Please proceed as you see fit, don’t listen to the people who want to bring your experience closer to theirs. This is your disco.
The character portraits are meant (from the artist of the game word) meant to represent the way Harry perceive them, they are really interesting from that perspective.
I am so hyped for what you're about to encounter.
YEAAAAH PET THE CAT, YEAAAH
PET TO THE MEGA
@@logicallydashing Now I have an image of a raving cat in my mind meowing "HOW MUCH IS THIS FISH!?"
Shivers is so amazing. It feels like you are sort of communing with the spirits of the city.
I calculated that by this pace, you will finish the game around Oct 2025, so it seems we have a lot of content ahead xD
Obviously he needs to do a 2nd and 3rd playthrough.
@@11tw48 Obviously it needs to be the super agent overachiever cop Detective Costeau (undercover name thought) who goes for the secret ending and solves the big problems plaguing the world. I don't think there's any playthrough of it yet on RUclips.
Play in whatever pace you want 👋
24:45 "I need an adult" :D
I gotta tell you disco elysium is the fine art of video games
17:45 This was a great connection to make- I've seen that point on analyses of Disco Elysium before. Keep your eyes peeled for colors bleeding through on other portraits later on..
this is one of the most insightful playthroughs I've seen of Disco, so enjoyable to watch, I can't wait to see your reaction and comments of the more critical parts in the story!
plus, if you need to pass time without Kim you can read books or the cases on your dirty ledger, they're so much fun to read and see how Harry's mind interacts with them
oh and also, there is one character that may be up to wash dirty laundry, jusst sayinng
Well. My therapist is on a two-week holiday. This is supposed to be a depressing episode but guess what? I found this playthrough. This is the best thing I’ve watched. It gave me so much strength and energy and things to consider. And they really are therapeutic. I guess you just never know with life.
The mood in Disco Elysium reminds me of the description of pre-revolutionary France in Hilary Mantel's novel "A place of greater safety":
"Nothing changes, nothing new. Same old dreary crisis atmosphere. The feeling things can't get much worse without something giving way. But nothing ever does. Ruin, decay, the sinking ship of state, the crumbling edifice, the sand of time. Only the cliche flourishes"
I think its this mood too that makes the more extreme presentation of ideologies more palatable: "Clearly things can't just go on like this, and at least these guys are trying to do something"
I'm realizing that one of the reasons I love your playthrough because your psychology-focused mind interacts with the text in a way that makes you seem *incredibly* media-savvy.
I think you're also just plain media savvy, but this game is catalytic for you. It speaks to both the grounded realism of the writing and your professional experience that you pick up on that so well, often just before the game makes it clear by sharing what you were thinking immediately after you've finished thinking it.
Oh no, no Kim? It’s crazy how much my enjoyment of things in DE is tied to Kim. I might have an issue there…
When Kim is away/asleep:
Most people: Doing the most embarrassing or depraved shit, that they don't want Kim to witness.
Brady: Doing his best police work.
Shivers moments are always so good. There's this sense of nostalgia and personification of the world that I've seen many times in literature, but never in a game.
Was worried you were having a short break after last episode :) soldier on brady!
Please remember to check the traps! Lena is still worried about Morell on the cold coast and he won't go back to her until you do, and tell him so.
Hell yeah.
Immediately after crossing the waterlock to the coast, is a dilapidated yard with a swingset. Investigate it; you may find something of use.
I've seen countless letsplays and finished this game many times as well. Still can't stop being amazed how incredible idea "Shivers" skill is. I don't think I've seen many more accurate depictions of poverty and hopelessness .
I grew up in communist Poland in a place where 99% people were poor. Those descriptions deeply resonate with me.
It's always darkest just before dawn. Press on, Brady!
I'm loving this playthrough so far, your insight, attention to detail and care for immersion and roleplay is enthralling, dude.
Please tell me you have another game lined up after Disco, this is gold.
Thanks for another episode.
You are one of the best lets player this game could ask for.
the brief aside on compartmentalization reminded us of a prior job we had ( working at the main transit center in our city ); where we would end up in a similar vein to that particular type situation. A body found on the sidewalk - immediately pull out our notebook and start taking notes of everything on the scene; a rush of information that had to be sorted - dont react its just the job - was he breathing? - go grab the narcan - alert the police,, thats not even the worst of it - its worse when they are still alive with more brutal injuries and under the influence. All this to comment - our boss once commented to the gist of we " had a particularly strong stomach for the job as a civilian" and the pride we felt in the comment ( and still do to an extent imo ) that particular facet of our resilience was recognized by / somebody / its stll sits with us as a "yes the situation was bad but you can withstand it as you have other things. " look at how /valuable / it is being a seagull " - despite all the work we've done we still dont know how to actually /feel/ the things we've compartmentalized - it all feels like a nebulous thing that happened to someone else piloting the body at that time; that we can only briefly touch mentally before it burns to hot. The art is helping acknowledge those parts we think? -
( thanks for never ever replying to or acknowledging these by the way - we'd frankly die of embarrassment to have any of this commented on in a non-detached fashion )
((also: phasmid trap check reminder!)) (((tthere is really good Yt Essay on the disco Elysium portraits from the artist worth checking out in the yonder year when you've finished :3c )))
"I don't know if it's intentional" he asks about something in Disco Elysium... It pretty much always is!
Also part of my job is to explain to people what a stave church is so I'm here to point out that the one referred to as such in this game does not seem to be one. Gasp, shock, horror, how dare they, et cetera 🤪
Man I cannot wait for him to meet my favorite little group of characters
I love your play through, I look forward to your uploads every week!
I also love your analysis of community vs individualism
Brady's journey from "I'm not all that political" to 43:20 has been... Very disco.
Great vid! Count me in as your newest fan, keep it rolling
yesss we finally get some cat hugs
never seen anyone do that part without Kim there before
Beautiful game, and beautiful commentary.
A light hearted detour?
That ain't disco, baby. That ain't disco at all...
"steel yourself"
He squirmed
So early! Love the series!
The phone...
Punishment for not waiting for Kim :(
38:00 The communal spaces comment reminds me of a small bit from "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater" - "...yet he could be thankful for the opportunity to pay a hundred thousand dollars or more for a painting by an Italian three centuries dead. And he capped this insult by giving paintings to museums for the spiritual elevation of the poor. The museums were closed on Sundays."
I'd be cheering on *les petite rats* for looting the coffers, if, y'know, they weren't dying in the process of doing so.
When the game tells you that you probably will not encounter a specific thing, do not believe it.
Kim's input makes those things a bit less depressing. Just sayin'
You should definitely put more points into shivers when you get the chance, it has some of the most interesting dialogue in the game (and seems right up your street with lots to analyse)
oh
kim's not here
Interact with the payphone braaaadyyyy
Oh yeah this one is a real tear jerker.
bit of a spoiler however the reason the church doors were just a shadow silhouette was because when you put the glasses on your perception skill dropped to -1, making Harry so blind he cannot physically "see" the entrance to the building.
Hell yeah, Brady is bringing out the good politics today
So I do want to point out that jacket you picked up that was really dirty and bird poop on it you can take to the cafeteria to the guy in the back that’s washing dishes and he will clean it for you and you can interact with it further I think it has something to do with your character if I remember correctly not 100 percent sure
24:31 😭
Good choice having your emotional support cat close by for this one.
i know how much you like shivers, just wanted to say i think you still have the regular boring cop thought active, giving minus to shivers and inland empire. you can forget it for a skill point if you ever have an extra one laying around
You know it is a dystopia when people serve kebab with ketchup.
the phone... its right there
Stop being weird
You can talk about the jaced with "doom spiral" or clean it up
Get side tracked, it's awesome
24:30 THERES NOTHING LITTLE ABOUT IT
There will be a red check where you can find out what shivers is
Plese, talk with acele
KITTY
As someone who went through this game as a full communist, idealistically supporting the union, I am really appreciating how you deal with the nuance of bad actors like Evrart Claire without dismissing collectivism.
The lighthouse was the location you need to skip the penalty on the whitecheck for trying to have the date.
... speaking of compartmentalization, please watch Severance (or do a "react video" on it, too)
Cat
ay yo
You and me brother, the first.
Oh boy and you haven't reached the phone or found the dead guy's family (heavily recommend to do the phone without kim but keep with the dead guy with kim)
