The greatest thing about Belichick is that he has a purpose for being so discrete with his answers. He does it so other teams don't have any advantage through media sessions or something a coach or player might say in terms of game plan. If you listen to Belichick in an interview non-related to his team or season, he is actually quite compelling and very informative.
Teams win Super Bowls, not just QBs. Those were 2 of the luckiest Super Bowls of all time. If Seattle and Atlanta just run the ball late in the 4Q like any idiotic coach should, Brady has 0 super bowls since that statement. Brady is incredibly fortunate to be a great QB who ALSO has terrific coaching/defensive talent behind him. Aaron Rodgers would kill for that.

Vince was great, but it's not really close. He was winning when there was no free agency, and a mere 14 teams in the NFL (another 8, almost all inferior, in the AFL). Players were very tough then, but the level of parity was nowhere near what it's been over during Belicheck's amazing run. Halas, Brown, Schula, Landry, Walsh, Noll, Madden, Gibbs, Parcells, were all great, HOF coaches, but what Belicheck has accomplished tops all of them, without question.
Ok. This is far fetched but one time I was riding my bike to work during a transit strike in New York, a reporter rolled up to me on his bike while a crew was filming. The reporter repeatedly asked me about the hardships the strike was causing me. I kept saying, I was enjoying the break in the routine of public transportation, the fact that people were doing different things, sharing rides more and talking more with their neighbors, finding more alternatives to getting around, and I was actually enjoying riding my bike to work. So on the nightly news I watched the story it was all about the hardships people are having. So this is what news does, it starts with a storyline, and tries to support the storyline, rather than actually going out and observing what is really going on and reporting it. You notice a lot of reporters in these interviews can't seem to get off the track even after it's clear that line of questioning isn't going anywhere. Any one who interviews Bill Belichick should know what to expect and he loves to talk about football and there a multiple ways of reaching him there, and he is a truly brilliant man who can be very charming but he does not suffer fools gladly. Doug P the thing with Belichick is he when anyone asks a question that has actual thought to it and is about the sport Bill will give an upmost answer on the question
Doug P, your observation is true. A valid point. I think what you're seeing is partially human nature in general, not just reporters. For example, you also locked in to your narrative -- that journalists behave a certain way -- and proclaimed that ALL journalists act that way, and ignored any evidence to the contrary. Not criticizing you, or defending reporters. Just an observation. Also, in the case of the writers, their job is to search out drama, to create content beyond the scoreboard. So, yes, they probably go too far, quite often, in terms of "inventing" stories, but reporting only what happened between the lines, the same thing everybody saw on TV, would be boring and pointless and probably go unread. So, there's a kind of a balance, there. Things aren't always black and white, 100% right or 100% wrong. Oftentimes, there's two sides to the coin, and finding a happy medium is the best you can do.
