I'm about to start on January 13th, I already cracked open my textbook and start reading and answering the questions, i am nervous and excited at the same time. But in my mind anything is better then the casino i work at! Love your videos!!
Omg!! I'm so interested in this! but I'm scared of forgetting everything I have such bad memory and there is so many instruments and a lot of different procedures! How did you remember it all?
How do you know what to put on the trays? Do they teach you that or do you learn that in school ? I’m in school now but we haven’t learned that yet I guess
In school we were thought the basics, like the set up for fillings and such. But everything else I learned when I started working. And remember every doctor works differently and prefer different materials and instruments, so it’s all just a learning curb and adjusting to the office and doctor ☺️
Just finished my externship for my dental assistant 😭🥹 so i can’t wait to find the office for me , but everything you doing is exactly how a day is lol .
I recently graduated high school, I’m looking forward on become a dental assistant. I have many questions, How was your experience? is the pay worth it? Are you satisfied with the job? These are some questions out of many 😩
Congratulations! My experience at my first 2 jobs was okay, I did learn alot but I found that those were not the type of offices I wanted to stay at for a long time (pediatrics). I’m currently working in a private office where 95% of our patients are adult, so treatment is different. Pay depends on alot of things, experience, location, specialty and so on. But I am satisfied with my job, it’s very rewarding. In my case I get to build a friendship almost with my patients and it’s feels awesome when they come back and remember your name and appreciate your work!
I'm also a dental assistant :) I am satisfied with my job I can actually say I love it and I enjoy it too, it's scary to learn something new but it's good to get out there and learn. The office I'm at is my first job as a dental assistant and I gotta say the drs have been very patient with me. All I gotta say is that any job will have it's ups and downs, you will have good days n bad ones too but it's part of every job.
Does the dental hygienist do most of the work in every appointment? I worked as a ortho assistant and we had to do allll the work except for when Dr would come to use the high speed with the Goldie and bending wires.
They do when the patient is only going in for their cleaning and checkup, hygienist takes X-rays , does cleaning and at the end doctor goes in to do exam. When patient goes in for treatment it’s just me and doctor.
I love your vlog makes me want to make one also but lately I just been working with the hygienist do I wanted to see what it was like working with the actual Dentist hands on I'm in externship, they want to hire me but it not the office I want to work for. How long did it take you to learn everything like crowns, trimming and all that
Thank you! You could start at that office to get experience and build your resume, while you find another office you like better. And I learned almost everything within 2 weeks
Thank you for sharing what you go through!! I want to make a career change at some point. Im 30 year old male who doesn't want to be an automotive technician for the rest of my life. Is this a good field to get into as a male? how long was schooling? Do you have to deal with sticking patients with an IV or draw blood? Thank you so much!!!
You’re welcome! I have met several male assistants throughout my career, and actually had a few male classmates. School for me was 9 months plus the externship hours we had to do, finished does in about a month and half. But I do know every school is different and I’ve heard of people only doing school for 3 months, so definitely recommend doing research. And about the IV or draw blood no we don’t.
Do you think a dental medicine graduate here in the Philippines could work as a dental assistant in your place? Or do we need more units in the program? ☺️
love your channel, but there is no way you guys use paper to track everything. I would die. The other day I was scanning old paper work for patients when they used paper and I was like hell to the NO.
Willing to bet there are literally no assistant would put on gloves to set up simple treatments like resto or a crown prep etc. UNLESS you are doing oral surgeries like implant and such then yes they will.
You can touch the sterile pouch without gloves. But you cannot open them without gloves. I will say though, those surgical evacuation tips should absolutely be in sterile pouches! 😬
For me, I don’t have any experience so I’ll be trained on the job. I’m starting at $18/hr and my boss wants me to get my RDA certification and then I’ll be paid $21/hr.

Always use PPE in treatment area

Thanks for posting this, I'm going to school for this and I am SO NERVOUS! But videos like this one motivate me to keep going. 😊
After you are done watching the video skip to 3:40 and put the video speed to 1.5. You won't be disappointed.

So wholesome 🥹💗

Ahh!!! I’m starting my Dental Assisting program later this month, do you have any tips on how to succeed as a dental assistant?
And how is it?
Hi Carissa,
How did your dental schooling go? ... I'm a dental assistant myself 😊
How do you prepare your notes before the patient arrives? It sounds like a great idea!
Usually in the appointment description it’ll say what they’re coming in for, so i go based of that
@@woahdenia4760 oohh gotcha! Thanks 🙏🏼

Pay is 100% not worth it.

Loved this🥰 Is your office private?
Thank you! Yes!

umm shouldn't you be wearing gloves when preparing the instruments
This looks like an interesting career. My problem is I don't see many males doing this. Why?
Hello shout out
You are not supposed to touch sterile instruments with no gloves on you also touched the crown no bueno
True but none of us does everything perfectly. I'm sure if you did a video or was followed around we can point out your mistakes.
Willing to bet there are literally no assistant would put on gloves to set up simple treatments like resto or a crown prep etc. UNLESS you are doing oral surgeries like implant and such then yes they will.
The pouches were sterile, it’s not like she opened the pouch with her bare hands. It’s fine.
You can touch the sterile pouch without gloves. But you cannot open them without gloves.
I will say though, those surgical evacuation tips should absolutely be in sterile pouches! 😬
Should definitely wear gloves when touching the crown.
Hello shoutout new friend
Heard some dental assistant jobs don't pay you that much unless you get a rises ....
It’s true. The pay depends alot on experience, the specialty your working in, and even the state you work in.
You have to have your RDA license or CDA if you want the good money
I’m in Arkansas starting pay with your RDA certs is usually around $12 an hour. We definitely do not get paid what we deserve.
For me, I don’t have any experience so I’ll be trained on the job. I’m starting at $18/hr and my boss wants me to get my RDA certification and then I’ll be paid $21/hr.
