HI, just adding this comment on your last uploaded video: Thanks to you and your tutorials, I was able to build up my bike and set it correctly. For example, the video on the front derailleur fitment and adjustment helped to avoid any guess work on my part, especially with the routing of the cable. Sincerely, thanks a lot. It's nice to have informative, well made, clear step by step videos online that replace quite well Shimano's documentations and highlight tricky parts :)
Useful video. I've done it successfully the other way around, 12 speed chainset on an 11 speed groupset, no discernible difference, even if there are differences in chainring spacing.
I still love this 9000 series crankset..had one on my old bike it looked great. Interesting to see the 12spd chain working on it
Thank you for this. I’m looking to go 105 di2 but want a front chainring of 52-36 which isn’t available as a 12 speed.
Great info.. out of interest what bike is this on is it a Look frame seemed very nice 😃👍🚴🏻
@FreeToCycle thanks for the update!
What do you think a 12 speed (Shimano) crank/chainring will work with the rest of 10 speed shimano groupset (chain, FD, RD, cassette)? Thanks!
Would love to see you put 12 speed ultegra front mech with new 105 12 speed group set see if it works with shifters and rear mech
I run 10s 38T chainring, where it clearly say on it 10speed only, on 11s dura ace crankset without any issues.
Thank you FTC for the (another) informative video. My curiosity (and ultimately component "mixing") is this; I'm running Ultegra Di2 R8050 (11spd) groupset (FD, RD, Cass, Chain, crankset and chainring), but I'm interested in running the newest Ultegra R8100 12spd crankset and chainrings. I do understand that the Q factor on the R8100 crankset 2mm wider than the R8000, and would most likely require a bit of FD (outward) adjustment. Have you tried this pairing combination? Running full Ultegra 11spd group set, with the exception of swapping up to the newer R8100 12spd crank and chain rings. Thanks for you time and informative posts.
Yes I ran that combination myself, works exactly the same as with the 11 speed crankset!
Is it compatible if the chainring is 12 speed but the chain is 11 speed? Thanks
Thanks for the video. I'm currently running a GRX 11-speed chainset on a 12-speed group. Works great. Some people claimed that the 12-speed chainring spacing is 2mm closer than 11-speed chainset. Did you observe this? I don't think the difference is that big. I would like to know if there are any differences even if it's minor. When 12-speed GRX comes out I might swap my current chainrings to the 12-speed version.
how is it going so far? i have a grx crank 1x chainrings i want to go 2x12 but there are no 2x 12speed chainring options on the market
It's working great still. The 12-speed GRX has already been launched. Usually it takes a while before the 12-speed chainrings become available as replacement parts. If you can't wait just buy a new 12-speed crank.@@totalcollapse8401
You should put a micrometer on it
Bought a new bike with 12 speed Dura Ace DI2 Groupset. Still got some brand new 11 speed chains left. Can I use them? I don't want to change chainrings as shown in the video
No the 11 speed chain won’t work with a 12 speed cassette!
@FreeToCycle so i have 10 speed ultegra road bike and have a brandnew 11 speed ultegra crank can i just swap the cranks i know it's still 10 speed but will it work for now
Yes!
can you use 12s chainset with 11s chain (and cassette etc.) ?
Yes!
