- My review of the Plasmic Ion Jacket by Mountain Hardwear. It's a water resistant / breathable shell that keeps you dry for the most part, unless you're in heavy, sustained rain.
The jacket is useful as long as you're aware of it's limitations, and it's often on sale, so it can be had at a decent value.

Nice review! Whats its pack size? Comparing this one and Mont-bell's Versalite jacket, hope to buy one for bikepacking, Versalite very lightweight and compress (h14 x d6),but no pit zips, and seems too thin. Plasmic seem much more durable, 70D-Versalite's 15D, have pit zips, looks a better hat edge.the seller sales in similar price.
Nice review! I just got one of these jackets a few months ago to replace my MH Epic jacket under warranty (MH is really good about that). Unfortunately, I did not realize the Plasmic Ion jacket did not have a velcro hood cincher on the back like the Epic did. So, you pretty much need to wear a hat to keep the hood out of your eyes. I came across your video while searching for a workaround for this issue.
BTW, when I first got my jacket, I was loading a truck in a torrential downpour and had my iPhone in the jacket pocket. Even though the jacket wetted-out in spots, the inside stayed dry, including the phone. Your jacket should be completely waterproof too. Maybe some water came in one of the openings or you're seeing perspiration. You can also try refreshing the DWR coating on the outside. Here's a helpful article from REI. www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/rainwear-dwr.html
If you find your jacket leaks around the seams, contact MH warranty and get them to repair/replace your jacket.
Thanks for the comment! Glad the jacket worked out well for you in the rain, I definitely think mine needs a re-treatment of DWR. And you're right about the hood, I never really thought about it but a lot of the time when I'm wearing the jacket with the hood on, I have to use my hand to hold it up and away from my face.
How tall are you?!
