Review: Arc'teryx Atom LT
A review of the Arc'teryx Atom LT hoodie / jacket. It's one of my favourite spring/fall jackets because of its versatility and comfort.

Review: Scarpa Instinct VS
Просмотров 47 тыс.7 лет назад
This is a review of the Scarpa Instinct VS rock climbing shoe. It's an aggressive, down-turned shoe that balances comfort with performance at a good price. Great for both bouldering, as well as routes. Probably wouldn't use these for long multi pitches though, where something less aggressive and more comfortable would be better suited. Review: Mountain Hardwear Plasmic Ion Jacket
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.7 лет назад
My review of the Plasmic Ion Jacket by Mountain Hardwear. It's a water resistant / breathable shell that keeps you dry for the most part, unless you're in heavy, sustained rain. The jacket is useful as long as you're aware of it's limitations, and it's often on sale, so it can be had at a decent value. Review: Marmot Kompressor 18
Просмотров 32 тыс.7 лет назад
Review of the Marmot Kompressor 18 pack after about 6 months of heavy use. The Kompressor is an ultralight bag that can be used like a stuff sack thanks to its three compression straps. It's comfortable, simple, yet packed with great features. Get the bag here: amzn.to/2PkE14p If you enjoyed this video, please leave a like, we really appreciate it!
Review: Evolv Shaman (2016)
Просмотров 19 тыс.7 лет назад
Review of the 2016 version of the Evolv Shaman rock climbing shoe after about a year of use. The Shaman is a comfortably designed performance shoe, best suited for overhand problems due to its hooked design. It's massively improved from its predecessor, as Evolv really took a lot of feedback into consideration for this new design. Get the shoe here: amzn.to/2PomJU3 If you enjoyed this video, pl...
I have solution comps, skwarmas and theories, but I needed a shoe that was durable until I can get my other performance shoes resoled so I bought these, I tried on the VSR's in the store and even downsizing 2 sizes they felt still so comfortable and just completely molded around my foot, can't wait to get them and climb with them
You would be interested to know the manufacturing cost of these jackets are hardly £20-£30 as they are manufactured in Vietnam, Bangladesh etc. If you ever go to colder regions in Himalayas... their local jackets are equivalently good. I have one and it works in 0 degree, it's stylish and only cost me £30, I got it from India. The materials are not rocket science to be priced that high... but no one questions them so...
Very usefull review!
Great review-you included some key info that I haven't found in other videos about this shoe. I felt the same issue with the side of the heel digging into my ankle when I tried them on in the shop and I'm hoping that it breaks in quickly because I loved the way the shoe felt!
Can anyone comment on a comparison of these against the Miura Vs? Not sure which to go for (climbing for half a year or so)
They are quite different. The miura vs is stiffer and the toe is quite extreme, almost like a talon. It excels on overhangs of pocketed limestone and granite dime edges. That specificity comes at the cost of being clunky on almost anything else until they are quite broken in and lose some of their downturn. The instinct is more of an all around shoe, less aggressive, a litter more flexible. It is better suited to bouldering and is definitely the better choice for climbing inside, although for inside I’d recommend the blue version that has softer rubber.
I have one without the hoodie it’s the bomb, so cozy and lightweight and roomy for layering on top of it or underneath depending on how I feel and the weather
Absolutely love my Atom LT. I wanted one for so long and when I finally got one it did not disappoint. Great review !
are there 2 kinds of atom LT.. i bought one in thelasthunt and Arcteryx outlet and the one from the outlet is thinner
Yup, the newer Atom LT has compact coreloft insulation which is thinner (more compact as the name implies), but provides the same warmth.
Am i in danger of hallux valgus with these shoes?
Yo that’s coyote :D
So I recently ordered the solution women’s in size 36,5 and instinct vs women’s in size 37. They arrived yesterday. I was scared that the instincts would be too wide, but with these models the instinct is actually smaller! The heel is smaller and the toe box is less wide
How much its price will be?????????
i got my for $10
thank you for taking the time to do this.
What is the Song called that you are using in thus Video?
I haven't been able to watch the whole review cause I keep replaying @0:20 and how it matches the drum. Nice touch
Hey Callus! You say they don't stretch much. But if you really want them to stretch by force ( for example shower with them in hot water), will they stretch and keep that length? I'm asking since my left foot is more than halve an inch bigger then my right foot.
Jeroen Katgert if you buy evolv shoes online you can choose to match different size shoes and have them shipped
My favorite part was when you blew the whistle with a perfect poker face heh great review! Gonna buy myself one now :)
Great review! I liked that you covered some shortcomings of the bag.
It doesn't have water bottle pockets on the sides 😠
i got these shoes in 8.5 and i normally wear 8 street shoes but i found them to be so small in the toe area that i couldnt wear them
Well done, you did a great job on this review - thanks!
Great review. I bought this jacket. Best jacket I have ever had. I had a north face jacket that I took back and exchanged for this one. So worth it. I love it so much I feel like getting a second one. It really is worth the buy if you like light feeling jacket that keeps you warm. I live in New England.
Really good review, thanks! I'm now doubting between the Atom LT and the Atom AR. Mostly the temperature will be like 0 to 15 but can be a minimum of - 5. Its also a bit windy here in Holland. I will use it for day hikes and for in the city. Which one would you recommand? Hope you still reply after months
Honestly I use the lt, the main reason. Because I can later it under a shell and stay kind of warm. I've had an ar don't really use it. If anything you can always layer a bit under it keeping you warm.
What size r u wearing?
It's a small
How tall r u
What winter jacket do you recommend with the atom lt for casual wearing in city with 0 to 6°C
I'd probably just throw a thick sweater on underneath
My Atom SL goes super well with a light fleece under like the Adahy. When I ski the alps in march, I run a merino base layer, the Adahy, and the Atom SL. This setup is light and keeps me nice and toasty even when Im reaching the mountain tops at around 3000 meters in wind. Guess the same is true for the LT.
How tall are you?!
5'7"
Nice review. What bladder did you use? The tube sleeve looked very well made.
It's this one here: sourcetacticalgear.com/tactical-hydration-systems/30-wxp-3l-storm-valve.html One thing about it is that it uses a twist-to-open valve rather then a bite-down valve, so if there's pressure on the bladder when it's opened up, water starts being squeezed out.
@@callusclimbing2155thanks a lot and great review
THANK YOU, EXCELLENT REVIEW
Cant listen to the opening song with seeing Content Cop...
BRO YES lmfaoo. 6 years after your comment and I still can't unhear it as content cop.
Hi, let me give you a small advice:There is a much easier and faster way to put on the instincts and aother similar shoes. first put only your toes in and make sure they already are at the very front of the shoe. Ignore the heel part of your shoes until the toes are already placed where they should be. Now Pull the heel over your foot.
Great tip actually. Thanks!
Ayyyy Coyote represent!!!
good review but next time turn on the lights
I found the pack suxed. The straps were the biggest waste. You have a 2in wide strap but the 3 quarter as strap inch actually holds all the weight. Very uncomfortable.
The 3 quarter as strap inch? I don't understand?
@@sylla2 He's referring to the 3/4 in nylon straps ( 3:22 ) When the bag is heavy enough the 3/4 in nylon just ends up digging into your shoulders despite the 2in honeycomb padding underneath that's supposed to help.
I just found your channel. I'm a gear nerd and obsessed with Archteryx. This is hands down the best review I've seen on this Jacket. You did your homework in the details. Great job!
i have a UK 8.5/9 street shoe size. evolv are not available in store where i'm from so i am ordering them online...what size do you recommend?
Nikhil Bhardwaj I found they were pretty true to size. If you like them tighter I'd go for 8.5, but if you like them comfier, I'd go for 9
Hello Callus Climbing, it the color anaconda new model at atom lt 2017 ? is it different then the atom lt in 2017 ? When the anaconda color has been producted ? Thanks.
Orhan Cabarov the Anaconda was either 2015 or 2016, I don't think they have it in the 2017 version. Sorry!
Do you have non-slip zippers in your jacket ? my English is bad. Sorry. :(
No problem! I'm not sure what you mean by non-slip, but they are YKK zippers and they are pretty smooth to zip!
Thank you. Do you have a locked zip ?
Oh I see what you mean, no it doesn't lock
Hi. what color is gator green? ( I'm writing with translate)
Orhan Cabarov They call it "Anaconda"
Callus Climbing Thank you bro.
Hello! Do you prefer the evolv shaman 2017 or the Scarpa Instinct VS? Thx!
MickaelDang I prefer the shamans, they fit my feet slightly better. The instincts are beast at toe hooking though.
Callus Climbing thanks a lot!
To what temperature would you wear the jacket standalone both hot and cold?
Michael Elliot With a t-shirt underneath, 5c to 15c, with a sweater 0c to 10c. Doing mild activity, on a non windy day
Seriously no side pockets?
Great video!
What's your height/weight and what's your jacket size ?
kotsi 5'7" and 140 lbs
Callus Climbing thank you. Maybe i missed the size of the jacket that are you actually wearing?
kotsi oh my bad, it's a size small
Just another question since I bought mine a few days ago for the Italian winter: you say this jacket is ok down to 5 degrees Celsius. In that temperature did you have just a t shirt underneath or how many layers? I would like to use the jacket with the first layer of so called "warm cotton", then a shirt and then a jumper. I don't know if this will be ok for temperatures that here go down to -4 C. And I don't mean going to work hard outside, just walking, slow walking. I am curious to know your opinion.
If -4C is the the low, you should be fine. Depends how well you deal with the cold as well. I'm not sure how windy it gets over there either, but if it gets really windy or wet, you might want to get some kind of shell to throw on top as well.
Callus Climbing Thank you.
What color is?
ik8vwa it's the Anaconda color. I think it may be discontinued officially now, but you can probably still find it on some sites
Which gym is this? I loved the shot of the yellow overhanging area. Very wes anderson-esque.
It's at Coyote Rock Gym in Ottawa, Canada
Thanks. Ottawa seems beautiful, I hope I can visit one day
excellent review with all the detail that is missing on most wordy reviews... also great editing. :)
MrAussieJules Thanks!
Still yet to find one that shows it packed away in it's own pocket. You say in this review it doesn't pack into its own pocket but on their website it says that it does.
Nice review! Whats its pack size? Comparing this one and Mont-bell's Versalite jacket, hope to buy one for bikepacking, Versalite very lightweight and compress (h14 x d6),but no pit zips, and seems too thin. Plasmic seem much more durable, 70D-Versalite's 15D, have pit zips, looks a better hat edge.the seller sales in similar price.
Nice review! I just got one of these jackets a few months ago to replace my MH Epic jacket under warranty (MH is really good about that). Unfortunately, I did not realize the Plasmic Ion jacket did not have a velcro hood cincher on the back like the Epic did. So, you pretty much need to wear a hat to keep the hood out of your eyes. I came across your video while searching for a workaround for this issue. BTW, when I first got my jacket, I was loading a truck in a torrential downpour and had my iPhone in the jacket pocket. Even though the jacket wetted-out in spots, the inside stayed dry, including the phone. Your jacket should be completely waterproof too. Maybe some water came in one of the openings or you're seeing perspiration. You can also try refreshing the DWR coating on the outside. Here's a helpful article from REI. www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/rainwear-dwr.html If you find your jacket leaks around the seams, contact MH warranty and get them to repair/replace your jacket.
Thanks for the comment! Glad the jacket worked out well for you in the rain, I definitely think mine needs a re-treatment of DWR. And you're right about the hood, I never really thought about it but a lot of the time when I'm wearing the jacket with the hood on, I have to use my hand to hold it up and away from my face.
perfect review, recently bought a pair as a begginer and they have been working great on me
Glad they're working for you! Still consider it the most comfortable performance shoe I've ever owned.
Have they worn out for you much at all? My buddy was telling me they probably aren't the best for beginners cause they might wear out with improper techniques.
Super helpful, thanks!
No problem!
