Carl ... Yes, alert 5 crews could arguably be housed closer to the ready aircraft, but regardless the F-15C is actually not the best aircraft to employ for this role. Firstly, it takes a while to start those old engines, getting them both good to launch (unless maybe they have one jet always hot 24/7?). Anyway, the old avionics suite normally takes some time to fully boot and check out too. Not sure how the brand new F-15SA with the next-gen systems and new GE engines would compare though... would be interesting however if some advantage in that category does indeed exist. Something to ponder. A good alert modern (and economical) front-line interceptor would probably be a new single-engined light to medium fighter with a quick start advanced computer and flexible software loading.
I'd be curious to know if the NATO pilots are excited to scramble or a little jittery. Especially when you intercept and it's a pair of some of the most state of the art jets Russia has
Chad Jackson Probably not afraid, because it's just a friendly intercept to basicly say "You aren't identifying yourself so we're gonna check you out ourselves
A few Airmen and F-15's from the Heath were temporarily deployed to one of the Baltic States (can't remember which one exactly) last year as part of the rotating Baltic Air Policing mission.
military economy our russ is not corruption, but your rigth about civil economy. It would have been better, as in the US, corruption in the military economy, and in the small town there is no. Compare the US military budgets ($ 700 billion) to Russia ($ 100 billion)

Russia didn't bomb or invade anyone while USA are always at war with somebody, using depleted uranium ammunition, and don't forget two nuclear on civilians...
"Trust, but verify" is actually a russian saying.) Reagan liked collecting soviet jokes and sayings. Russian army does compeletely the same job on the daily basis, so it is fair to say that both sides give reasons for unrest in bilateral relations. Being russian, I want to say, that mutual agression among ordinary people of our two nations deepens unnecessary conflict.
Very sadly the current air-policing mission over Baltic States today remains more validated than it was say just 5-6 years ago, let alone when the basic mission first began.. Whereas the very clear 'hostile challenges' to Baltic states' basic security, sovereignty and wider region security seems to be increasing over the past 5 yrs and not decreasing. That is, whether it's some official agenda by a predetermined hawkish Kremlin camp to intentionally counter a de-escalation process and cooperative path, at least until they feel perhaps they can achieve sufficient strategic leverage over EU/NATO to dictate the terms of 'cooperation', e.g., it's very unfortunately just not known. Respects and keep the hopes up..

It´s New TV LIVE Year´s 2018 !
Interesting that the F-15s were scrambled from Lakenheath, surely other aircraft would be closer to the Baltic States performing the same mission.

Everythingman
Ahh got you, I read it as they're stationed at Lakenheath and make the trip to the Baltic states when they're scrambled
Why not send f22 raptor
Mustang98 3919 No need for raptors for this mission

Good job, guys! And I want to say that Russia can not be trusted completely! Since even Ronald Reagan said: "Trust, but verify".
