@lestonthompson8495 If you believe that you have no idea how democracy works. All of Europe manages without an electoral college. Most do not have an election for a Prime minister or president. The party/parties that receives the most votes wins and the leader of that party becomes Prime Minister/ President. In coalition governments some posts have been shared between the two party leaders. The electoral college is an anachronism of the 18th century when communications were non existent.
@@kevgriffin7062 We don't elect parties in the US our Government and Country wasn't designed to do that, we have State by state elections to elect Representatives and Senators from each state to Represent their States in Washington. We don't elect Parties no matter what what the Media pushes. I know the media pushes every election like it is a competition between the parties but that just isn't so. If one party happens to get more Representatives or Senators during an election then it was just luck, it wasn't a coordinated effort between the States. We could do away with all parties, and our Government could still function, maybe even better then it does now. Just Candidates and voters, no Electoral College, no Parties, just one person one vote, no more vote Red or Blue no matter who.
we need to accept that they understood the fact they can't win or govern... they are not looking for 'the best', at this point they're 100% opportunists, basically "anything goes" is the only principle
McCarthy couldn't make a deal with the Democrats. Working with Democrats is what killed his speaker title. I say "title" rather than "speakership" because he negotiated away almost all the powers of speaker to get the votes and ended up a ceremonial figurehead.
I mean, if he'd cut a deal with the dems, he *could* have gotten back in despite the opposition of the Republican party's most fascist wing so long as any fraction of the republican party could get on board with that, so long as the democratic party could actually get every congressman to agree. The problem is that cutting a deal was never a realistic option because he'd literally *just* demonstrated he could not be trusted to keep to the terms of an agreement.
McCarthy needed Democrat votes to keep the Speakership, and he would have had their support had he negotiated with them even a little. He wanted all or nothing. He got nothing.
There is no way this guy is going to get a budget passed by November 17th. He's wasting time on gamesmanship proposals that are completely dead on arrival in the Senate.
A speaker isn't supposed to be a big thing to begin with. The entire point of the House is for each member to be on equal footing, not a cult of personality centered on 1 person's whims.
Gym and the others were very much on brand but the packaging was wrong. And let's not forget, Mike was chosen by a unanimous vote. They're all on brand and all on the same page but Mike is better window dressing for their vile agenda.
They gave him the speakership because McCarthy was the money and with the loss of him and the $$, they figured the most Evangelical candidate would lessen the loss. Got it now?

That funding for the IRS is saving the middle and lower classes from having to pay billions of dollars over the next years in lost revenue due to wealthy taxpayers tax fraud. That lost revenue isn’t erased it is transferred from the wealthy’s debt to the middle and lower classes debt via the deficit. It isn’t cutting spending it creates more spending. Republicans defund the IRS enabling the wealthy to get away with tax fraud they lack the resources to investigate top 1% tax fraud. Which they themselves benefit from. That’s why their new tax plan will get rid of the IRS because they are going to get caught committing tax fraud themselves. The quote's not wrong, just that he was warning about the potential tyranny of the majority. It's interesting, in the attempts to take apart democracy, that this is what's being used to rationalize it.
Not so much a grievance culture against Biden, or even the Democrats as a whole, but a grievance culture against ANYTHING that does not fit, or meet with their 'clear' vision of America, what America is, and who Americans are and what being American means.

It is scary that a lot of these new generation of GOP keep saying "America is not a democracy", frequently followed by "America is a Republic", as if a Republic could not be a democracy and if "America is not a democracy" then America should not be one. (1) They ignore the fact that the structure of our government as prescribed in the US Constitution is a representative democracy, or they have not read the US Constitution. (2) Democracy does not necessarily equal to majority rule, especially in a representative democracy (excluding the case of illiberal democracy.) (3) Yes, democracy is neither perfect, efficient, or all-wise, but as Churchill said, "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…" Winston S Churchill, 11 November 1947. I much rather live in a democratic country than in autocratic countries like Russia and Turkey, or authoritarian countries like CCP's China and Iran. (4) Unfortunately, USA is already no longer a democratic Republic. Extreme gerrymandering has turned our country into an illiberal democracy, and is pushing us into a one party authoritarian state like China. GOP always say how much they detested China, but they are behaving just like CCP of China. It is quite ironic that Mike Johnson is saying exactly what Emperor Xi Jinping has been saying on the world stage, that Western democracy is a bad political system and that other countries should follow CCP's political system, which is a one-party authoritarian system with an autocratic leader who institutes a cult of personality leadership

Electoral college must be canned. One person one vote- no gerrymandering. Real elections.
If you truely believe that then you must know there can't be political parties either. Then you'll really have one person one vote.
McCarthy couldn't make a deal with the Democrats. Working with Democrats is what killed his speaker title.
I say "title" rather than "speakership" because he negotiated away almost all the powers of speaker to get the votes and ended up a ceremonial figurehead.
RepubliKKKLNAS WONT PASS ONE BILL, that the plan dummies
I mean, if he'd cut a deal with the dems, he *could* have gotten back in despite the opposition of the Republican party's most fascist wing so long as any fraction of the republican party could get on board with that, so long as the democratic party could actually get every congressman to agree. The problem is that cutting a deal was never a realistic option because he'd literally *just* demonstrated he could not be trusted to keep to the terms of an agreement.
McCarthy needed Democrat votes to keep the Speakership, and he would have had their support had he negotiated with them even a little. He wanted all or nothing. He got nothing.

(1) They ignore the fact that the structure of our government as prescribed in the US Constitution is a representative democracy, or they have not read the US Constitution.
(2) Democracy does not necessarily equal to majority rule, especially in a representative democracy (excluding the case of illiberal democracy.)
(3) Yes, democracy is neither perfect, efficient, or all-wise, but as Churchill said, "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe.
