How lucky were the Stones to have this guy (Nicky) transform their songs into perfection. Not over, or under played, just perfection. Charlie and Bill as always laying down the heartbeat.
Absolutely...his playing was just superb on their classics including 'sympathy for the devil' 'can't always get what you want' & 'fool to cry' are just a couple of others of note!
@@jessewolf6806 The best rhythm section would be like Geddy Lee and Neil, Carl Parmel and Greg Lake or Jim Gordon and Carl Radle. Love the Stones but speaking regarding musicianship as individual terms they're not that great.
Nicky F-ing Hopkins! They should have made him an official Stone. Way so many of RS albums and songs just superbly augmented by his virtuosity and fluidity. RIP Nicky.
Nick Hopkins suffered from severe Crohn's disease all his life and had multiple surgeries. His cause of death was from surgical complications. He could only do studio sessions because of health reasons, because touring was impossible for him. You can't be in a band without touring.
Nicky was an incredible musician. I had the pleasure to see Nicky play in 1972 with the Stones at Madison Square Garden. One of the highlights of my life!!
That he was ... Too bad that you & Mick didn't show more respect and appreciation for him when he was breathing... I always seemed to find your playing to be lacking to be honest...
Kevin T Kiso I don't know about Mick but Let it Bleed and Beggars Banquet are good examples of Keith's guitar playing. Overall Nicky Hopkins is my most favorite pianist of all time! The true 6th (or 10th) Rolling Stone
This is so freaking awesome. Love Jagger's and Richards' addition to Angie, but to hear Wyman, Watts, and especially Nicky Hopkins play this adds a whole new dimension to the song for me. Hopkins is probably my all-time favorite pianist.

Told him I saw the Stones July 1, 1966 next to the diving horse in the Marina Ballroom on Steel Pier in Atlantic City. He remembered the show! A real English Gent. Got some Charlie stories also but I'll save them for next time...
I’ve been playing bass since the 70s, and only now am I realizing what a truly great bass player and musician Wyman was. Space, time, groove, and the incredible syncopated playing on so many songs; it all just blows my mind and makes me want to learn as much of his stuff as I can. What a revelation (for me at least!).
One of Nicky's finest moments as a rock keyboardist, playing that beautiful piano piece for Angie. I rank that, along with John Lennon's Jealous Guy and the Who's The Song is Over, as his greatest playing. And, of course, the Beatles' Revolution and Jefferson Airplane's version of Wooden Ships.
@bohindramusic Wow! He did the Song Is Over too??!!!! Never realized it. To think I've been playing air piano all rhese years to the great Nicky hopkins!

The one and only Nicky Hopkins! As Ray Davies baptized him in a great song by The Kinks: "He's a session man, a chord progression, a top musician. He's not paid to think, just play". And he did it very well indeed.

I met the guy who wrote Nicky's biography, in a music shop in Frome called Rave from the Grave. We had an interesting chat. I liked Quicksilver Messenger Service where Nicky was a real bonus to that band, the beautiful music they put out is still a joy still listen to. That awful Jeff Beck album he was on didn't float my boat.
