They may be old school now but they were new school to a 15 year old in 1975. This song was playing in the background while I was experiencing all the joys and despairs of being a teenager. It makes me remember the way I used to feel (Is that a song? I think that is a song) Anyway, thank you Professor for analyzing the playlist of my life. Love your channel!

I remember this song and "Still The One" well. the folk era of the late 1950's and early 60's and folk rock of the late 60's and 70's saw excellent harmony among some of the bands. "Orleans" where one of them. excellent demo and analysis. Fil You got my vote for Teacher of the Year!

I just discovered this analysis today. Where have i been? I am so glad you are analyzing this great song. I loved the three part, harmonies of Orleans -- always in tune -- , and their tasty musical arrangements (that guitar/melodica lick at the end is so good!). You don't hear many melodica solos in pop music, but it gives a very unique flavor. I loved the softer side of Orleans as well as their rockier side with John and Larry's dueling electric guitars.. Their lyrics were always uplifting. So many great songs, not just the hits.. One of my favorite bands of all time. Was so sorry to hear that Larry Hoppen is no longer with us...Thanks, Fil. You have such impeccable taste in music and a great way of explaining why a song is as good as it is. Much gratitude to you.

Fil’s appreciation for music that he wasn’t alive to experience is pretty sweet, there’s just nowhere else you can find this sort of analysis for music of the past decades. Personally this song captures the romantic longing I felt when I was a teenager for the girls I fancied. The beating pulse, the feeling of your heart falling into your stomach, the overpowering sense of euphoria that floods your head. Definitely one of the best songs ever of its genre.
And Fil’s voice hitting those highs is glorious.

As soon as the guitar played I knew what song would be sung. I love that you analyze all types of music but especially the music from the 50’s - 90’s. Todays music is so different from My generation. Also I love The Cure, Morrissey, Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Ferry, and the 80’s music. I listened to your Seals & Crofts analysis and remember seeing them in concert. Wow! Their voices blended beautifully. I’m still waiting for your analysis of Phil Ochs and his song Changes. Love Orleans harmony. This is awesome. Fil, I appreciate what you do so much. ❤️

Thanks Fil, this takes me back to my youth as an awkward 15 year old in high school. So many memories of such a bitter sweet era in my life. Love your commentary. You are a true English gentleman.

John Hall went to Congress for a district in Ulster County, NY, which includes Woodstock in 2007 and served a second term, leaving in 2011. He also did a tremendous amount for the environment, organizing a group to fight a nuclear plant that was planned to be put on the Hudson River, among other efforts. He's a great musician, but also a terrific citizen.

When I saw the tube beside Larrys mic I thought it was going to be for a "talk-box", but NO. I can relate to these guys cause I played in several multi-vocal/player bands, and still hear things from that perspective. As always, an insightful review.
