That’s because it is just milk and boba!
If you want tea in it you literally need to ask for the milk tea one.
I actually made the same mistake when I first went to Xing Fu Tang.
I was so mad cuz I was like this just taste like milk and then I saw the menu which actually states that lol
Xing Fu Tang are basically known for their milk boba because all their boba are handmade in their stores and cooked fresh daily hence why it’s soft and pretty sweet. I personally like the fact that’s it’s freshly made.
The Alley have the best variety of bubble tea flavours to choose from but their boba is package boba that they slow cook in brown sugar.

I don't think you're supposed to push the entire rose into unknown depths of sugar.
You either pick it out, or you insert the straw on the side while the rose remains floating on top.
All in all though, this franchise (Xing Fu Tang Tea Shop) is known for "different" types or flavours of Bubble Tea. Their menu contains 10 to 12 different drinks in total.
With all of them containing milk. They don't have any refreshing Bobas such as fresh juices.
So for beginners, I would not recommend this franchise. Perhaps start off with the more common types. Such as fresh strawberry or blueberry juice or slushy with Pearls.
    And go from there lol.

Well xing fu tang is not expensive in other places. Just a normal bubble tea shops, not even the most popular one.

Okay so after doing a little digging it seems in London it typically costs like 3.30 for bubble tea. Which is dirt cheap in the US. In all fairness the problem is that people are forgeting the relativity here. Londoners would think bubble tea is extremely expensive in the US and vise versa. I live on the East Coast and a single cup of bubble tea is typically $10 - 20 without tax for some more context. And $10 tea is usually a tiny cup and not that good. I still think it's absolutely ridiculous to call that expensive but relatively speaking it's slightly more pricey than the normal cups but still isn't that bad.

Xin Fu Tang is nice because they make fresh boba but I haven’t tried any with gold leaf. The regular brown sugar milk tea is great enough with the same price point as most milk tea brands here in 🇨🇦
