A big thank you to Cheri for the priority request and apologies for the delay of dealing with the copyright dispute. What is your favorite genre that Prince did?
You got it!!! Prince has said “de-elevator” is the devil and going “crazy” is God. Most of the videos from the Purple Rain album are clips from the movie. The performances in this video are various ones from the movie (good catch). There are 2 videos (Baby I’m a Star & Take Me with U) that are live performances from the tour. They are great as well. Yes, you should definitely listen to the whole album and watch the movie. It’s all 40 years old this year. In fact, Saturday (7/27) is the 40th anniversary of the movie being released. That summer was all Prince, and it was great!!! 💜💜💜
Yes, you should definitely watch the movie. It came out when I was in high school and already a huge Prince fan. I saw it so many times I had the dialogue memorized, lol. The performances within the movie are absolutely incredible. The song Purple Rain won the Oscar for Best Original Song Score and the album won a bunch of Grammy Awards. There are many great Prince videos, Raspberry Beret, Kiss, Little Red Corvette, 1999, Baby I'm a Star...really it's endless, he was so prolific.
Lots of great Prince stuff out there. His Superbowl halftime show as well as the press conference for the halftime show, his cover of "Motherless Child",his cover of "Creep", his acoustic performance of "Cream", etc.. All worth checking out.
For a great Prince guitar performance watch 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Prince & Steve Winwood at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the Beatle George Harrison. It's a Beatles' song written by Harrison. Prince was also inducted into the Hall of Fame that night. The other performers are icons in their own right but Prince's long guitar solo stole the show by 1000%.
All the videos were pulled from the movie only truncated. You’ll definitely want to watch it and also listen to the entire album in one sitting, as that’s the way he produced it and was meant to be heard. A great deal of the album, including the title track, was recorded live. And then he added strings and other elements after in the studio. The movie isn’t Oscar worthy in terms of the narrative, dialogue and acting performances. Outside of Morris Day who is good for a non actor. Nobody in the bands were trained actors. Considering most of them did excellent. This is just the 80s Citizen Kane of Star vehicles. Compared to the ones made for Elvis and The Beatles. The musical performances by Prince and the Revolution as well as The Time are worth the entire ride. Been watching it for 40 years and he’s just as electrifying and surprising on stage. Never losing its luster! 💜💜💜♊️♊️♊️
It is on my list of things to watch, among many other band movies/concerts. I just need to find time between working, reacting, content creation, video editing, and sleeping to check these out 😂... I am so tired...
Prince said that Let's Go Crazy was a good vs evil/God vs Devil song, but if he had made it obvious, radio and video outlets probably wouldn't have it played it. He used some clever word play in order to get his message across. Also, the "sermon" was edited because radio stations usually wanted songs to be under 4 minutes.
Dearly beloved We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life Electric word, life It means forever and that's a mighty long time But I'm here to tell you there's something else The afterworld A world of never ending happiness You can always see the sun Day or night So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills You know the one, "Dr. Everything'll-be-alright" Instead of asking him how much of your time is left Ask him how much of your mind, baby 'Cause in this life things are much harder than in the afterworld In this life you're on your own And if the elevator tries to bring you down Go crazy, punch a higher floor Woah If you don' t like The world you're living in Take a look around At least you got friends You see I called my old lady For a friendly word She picked up the phone Dropped it on the floor (Ah, ah) Is all I heard Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down? Oh no, let's go Let's go crazy Let's get nuts Let's look for the purple banana 'Til they put us in the truck Let's go We're all excited But we don't know why Maybe it's 'cause We're all gonna die And when we do (when we do) What's it all for (what's it all for) You better live now Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door Tell me, are we gonna let the elevator bring us down? Oh, no let's go Let's go crazy Let's get nuts Look for the purple banana 'Til they put us in the truck, let's go C'mon, baby Let's get nuts Yeah (Crazy) Let's go crazy Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down? Oh, no let's go Go crazy Woah I said let's go crazy Let's go (let's go) Go (let's go) "Dr. Everything'll-be-alright" Will make everything go wrong Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill Hang tough children He's coming He's coming Coming Take me away

I've learned so much about Prince over the last couple of months. So many songs and performances

The J. Geils Band did 'Freeze Frame'.

I was actually considering doing that reaction with dollcake on Monday. Oops I gave it away. Forget I said anything

That makes sense. Yeah radio is weird with their timr constraints
This shorter version is great. But the full album version is like a religious experience. You'll understand in the first 10 seconds.
I definitely don't doubt it
This song and performance was the opening segment for the movie, "Purple Rain".
Lastly, just check out the movie. What's up with that?
It is on my to do list. One day I'll have a little time to actually sit down and watch it
#PurpleBanana!
You should listen to the 12" inch version.
What does that mean exactly? Is that like the smaller vinyls?
@@AceofBadeReacts They are long play singles
I think whereever you got the lyrics from is WRONG where you are reading "de-elevator." Probably an A.I.'s interpretation of what it "hears."
Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life
Electric word, life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you there's something else
The afterworld
A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun
Day or night
So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one, "Dr. Everything'll-be-alright"
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
'Cause in this life things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life you're on your own
And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor
Woah
If you don' t like
The world you're living in
Take a look around
At least you got friends
You see I called my old lady
For a friendly word
She picked up the phone
Dropped it on the floor
(Ah, ah) Is all I heard
Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down?
Oh no, let's go
Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Let's look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck
Let's go
We're all excited
But we don't know why
Maybe it's 'cause
We're all gonna die
And when we do (when we do)
What's it all for (what's it all for)
You better live now
Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door
Tell me, are we gonna let the elevator bring us down?
Oh, no let's go
Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go
C'mon, baby
Let's get nuts
Yeah
(Crazy)
Let's go crazy
Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down?
Oh, no let's go
Go crazy
Woah
I said let's go crazy
Let's go (let's go)
Go (let's go)
"Dr. Everything'll-be-alright"
Will make everything go wrong
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Hang tough children
He's coming
He's coming
Coming
Take me away
