Two of the greatest coaches of all time played in this game. Phil Jackson and Pat Riley. Bet they had no idea what they'd become at this point. Great video man!
On their benches were two coaches who go back to the very early days of the NBA, Red Holzman and Bill Sharman. Holzman played on some very good Rochester Royal teams (now the Sacramento Kings) and Sharman was a member of the Celtics.
Red Holzman, Phil Jackson's spiritual father and the great Bill Sharman, two of the brightest basketball minds ever.

Wilt was an actual friend of mine in the 80s and 90s.. I befriended me back in 1971 when I was 8.. .. and my Dad took me to every home Laker game in 1972 when they won the Championship and won 33 games in a row... As an adult I bought a place in Brentwood near Wilt and he would pull up outside and I would jump in and we went to Barrington tennis courts and play ( I was a former ranked junior player) He would have been an amazing tennis player if he had practiced more.. I cried when I called his house and a woman friend of his answered and and told me he was dead at the house. I was often there to watch movies and I went with him to pick out new couches and we used my truck to take his old one to my condo- He helped me move it upstairs. He was only 62 .. It fucking sucked. It makes no sense how gifted and athletic Wilt Chamberlain was. And he was not even in his prime at this point of his career. This guy was blessed with so much ability that even with the incredible numbers and accomplishments he achieved, people still didn't think he did enough. The man was a 2 time NBA champion and finals MVP, 4 time NBA MVP and people still thought that he should have done more. There's no doubt in my mind that Wilt would have been great in ANY era.

Frazier seldom gets mentioned as a top guard of all time, but I would gladly have him on my team, Denver Nuggets. Would make us a favorite to win title this year.
this aged great
Although we only see a few of his 20+ rebounds and close to ten blocks in this game, watching Wilt play defense is a beauty to behold as a bball fan
What you can observe here is that nobody on the floor can outright block Chamberlain's shot when he's anywhere close to the basket and about to make a move. If he jumps with intent, he's getting a dunk/layup, or a foul at worst. You can see how such a specimen, in those days, would get 55 rebounds in one game or score 100.
yoe91 he’d do the same today lol
You should be very strong to make a dunk with two guys on your shoulders. Try to jump under a ring by two legs in the game after successful rebound and you'll understand how great Wilt was.
Russell did block wilt in such a manner
Makes me wonder if we could only take today's athletic, not necessarily skilled centers like DeAndre or Whiteside and put them in this game would they dominate as much based on their size and athleticism or was Wilt really that special.

@@pickzkickz
29 rebounds? LeBron? Pull your head out of your ass!
This was before the NBA counted blocked shots, but the 76'ers did count it for their own records. During Wilt's time with that organization, he AVERAGED 8.8 blocks per game. Assume the older version of Wilt seen here "only" got 5 or 6 BPG, also, Wilt is the only center ever to lead the NBA in assists for a season. Wilt is playing at about 315 pounds in this game.
pickzkickz You do know this is the same guy that scored 100 points right?
late 60s early 70s gets over looked somewhat. You had you great players during that era for sure!!
True brother so true
If you really know your stuff and can spot it, you only need to watch how Wilt goes about doing little things -like rebounding-to get a glimpse of how utterly unbelievable he was. AND….he goes about everything in an almost lackadaisical way.
He was so special. Never seen anyone come close to dominating; simply.
Imagine he played later, when every player is encouraged to show-off ?
No one would even talk about other players !
I remember watching that game. 11 years old. Perfect time-
Watching Chamberlain shoot throws is hilarious. But he was magnificent at everything else.
I don’t get it. He could hit bank shots, hooks from far away, apparently even shoot granny free throwing one season, but had trouble making free throws why?
@@Thats_Unfortunate Seems a problem for big men. Russell was also terrible from the line, and Shaq was worse. I'll make two guesses. As centers, especially back then, outside shooting just wasn't their thing, and they didn't practice it much. They played inside and that was it. A free throw is kind of like an easier version. Of course you'll argue that Wilt had a deadly fall-away. And the thing is it was a fall away, not a straight up jumper--it softened the shot since he's taken off some momentum. So my better guess is that their big hands and musculature make it harder for them somehow because the ball is basically too small and light and doesn't give them enough resistance. It makes it unstable: imagine yourself shooting a softball from the line. Think that makes sense?
@@nicholasschroeder3678 Wilt used to dunk his free throws until they banned it form the sport. Imagine how much more dominant he'd have been if opponents couldn't simply foul him and send him to the line. He'd have been the first ever 100% free throw shooter.

hell yea lol. Too goddamn strong hahaha
uǝɯ ɹǝpods he actually was better that way because he was strong, he was even better shooting granny style free throws
He stopped giving a shit on his free throws back in 1967, just chucked it up
he can hook shot at the 3 point line. trust me.
Yeah. Wilt was a real mental case when it came to free throws. His words, not mine. The idea in his Lakers days was the he's too strong to shoot free throws properly from 15 ft. So he figured if you backed up another foot or two it would make the shot easier. LOL
That instant replay was torture to watch lol
It's crazy that Wilt averaged 19 and 18 rebounds a game in his final 2 seasons in the league.
Nobody talks about but i truly believe wilt is the best over the rim finisher ever
Wilt in his second to last season had 7 blocks in this game, Clyde had at least 4 steals. But since they didn't keep records none of it counts. Imagine how many blocks Wilt really had in his whole career
In his prime, Wilt blocked 26 shots in one game. If they were keeping blocked shots as a stat back then he would be the leader by a mile...
Him and Russel would be so ahead of Hakeem
It is estimated that in their respective careers, Wilt averaged 8 blocks per game and Russell between 6 and 6.5 per game. While Wilt played in Philly, the stats guys kept careful count of his blocks for 112 consecutive games, where he averaged 8.8 blocks per game. Watching him as a Laker, I saw him block in double digits many times.
They shouldve put Wilts full stat line. He had like 7 blocks and 5 assists also. That's 24 pts, 29 reb, 7 blks, and 5 ast
They weren’t as good of ball handlers but dang people like Walt could still shoot and finish well. People who say they would have been mvp back then aren’t even close to finishing shots like that consistently.
Nate Lowry they had handles. They dribbled like that cause the NBA actually gave a fuck about carries and traveling back then.
Nate Lowry it's a highlight vid. It's not going to show him missing those shots...
Chris Butler it still wasn’t as good. I’m not arguing about that it’s obvious.
Coolhands444 but it still shows how well he finishes and they did show some misses.
Nate Lowry Plus, Wilt was 37 with injured knee's. Nowhere near his prime and he still grabbed 29 Boards. Unbelievable.
I just love to see how far Wilt standing behind the free throw line
Showing literally how strong is he
Not a drop step. Not a shimmy. Not a face up. He’s just bigger and more athletic than everybody.
Pretty awful footwork, it's true.
bruh this man didnt even look like he was trying lol
Yeah wilt stated he never went hard for fear of hurting his opposition.
Chickenwithclawz 68 nahh, Wilt admitted to being a horrible free throw shooter
@The Ultimate lmao the time wilt shot granny free throws i think he shot 70% from the line before switching back to the YEET
@The Ultimate Yes, and Wilt said, during an interview, that at the end of the training, the psychologist was a better free throw shooter than he was.
OG History! #Lakers2k19
This was Wilt after his prime & he was still a major threat towards any team he played against! The prime version of Wilt is the type of player we will never have a chance to see again & the greatest version of any player that that has ever stepped foot on any court!
Walt Frazier doesn't get his due these days, but he was a smooth, operator on the court. He did it all exceptionally well and made very few mistakes. He was a fun player to watch play the game.
Good stuff.
Classic NBA Finals, part 2 of 3 for the Lakers and Knickerbockers. Clyde moving and grooving in the paint, Wilt commanding the paint with his defense and rebounding prowess in spite of his injuries. Gail Goodrich and Jerry West and Phil Jackson, Jerry Lucas too many legends all at once

Actually the 1971-72 NBA finals was a bit anti-climatic. The Lakers had an incredible regular season, winning 33 consecutive games and 69 of 82 games. The Knicks were 48-34 that year, with Willis Reed missing most of the season and the Knicks going with the undersized 6-8 Jerry Lucas at center. That worked fine when Lucas was matched up again the 6-6 Wes Unseld and the 6-8 Dave Cowens in the Eastern Division playoffs, but Lucas was no match for the 7-2 Wilt Chamberlain.

@@jxecappo Hey Joey……read what I commented to Dummy Allan Houston……
The thing I always notice most about watching basketball from the 60's, and 70's is the constant movement, and no flashy business. These guys were going to work, and executed fundamentals of team basketball. All of that flashy crap looks nice, and it gets the crowd excited, but the team game has suffered over the years, especially through the 2010's, and 2020's so far. No matter what sport you watch from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, the team aspect of the sport was much greater, and the sophistication of the game was deeper. These guys were playing chess, not checkers. It's all about getting more high percentage shots than the other team, not some bullcrap analytics that some dude (who never played any sports in his life) came up with based on the value of mid-range shots vs 3-pointers. Analytics doesn't take into consideration the opponents defense, the fact that even the best shooters have cold streaks shooting the basketball, and what a high percentage shot looks like for different players who are more comfortable shooting from specific spots on the court more than others.
Love to hear Keith Jackson do his thing!
They play like kids in my hometown in the Philippines, they don’t show flashy dribble but their passing is amazing and shooting
Well said

Dunno why people downgrade players from back then. It not that theyre SUPER ancient that they dont know what theyre doing or have less IQ ingame, they just lack the full potential of their athleticism, which wilt has and is ahead of his time. Their playstyles are just different from today. They were more on the fundamentals and look, even as hilarious as their forms were, theyre still great shooters even from deep 2 point range thats actually 3s from today
Another factor is that young players learn from the stars of their teenage years. Just consider the generation of 1980s stars who had the benefit of watching the likes of Earl Monroe, Pete Maravich, the Harlem Globetrotters, Dr J, Kareem, Bill Walton, David Thompson, or George Gervin. Then think about how young players today have grown up watching or being influenced by MJ, AI, Kobe , Steph or even Luka Doncic. I promise you the earlier generations of stars would have played differently with the same exposure to those of earlier generations and they'd be just as great today.
Wilt... 24 points and 29 rebounds! 😬
2:11 Lmao imagine a ref running into the lane in today’s nba like that
