THANK YOU!! You have NO IDEA what I have been going through! I took my '14 QX80 in for service and explained to them that there is this muffling sound and vibration like a second small motor starting up that just randomly turns on and off. Do you think they would have at least known to think it could be the Air suspension compressor? I don't even think they knew to check this! I had no idea mine even had this option. This is the kind of thing that makes me have no faith in some mechanics! Like SERIOUSLY? All my mechanic did was throw it on the diagnostic tool and tell me there was no codes in the system and it looked ok! It's like mechanics don't even know how to be a mechanic anymore! Grrrr! YOUR CUSTOMER SHOULDN'T BE THE ONE FIGURING THIS OUT!!! Now mind you, I am NOT in a snowbelt State, I am in Southern California, but the car is coming up to 8 years of age, so I guess a compressor doesn't last forever. Anyhow, thanks for the helpful video! Are you an Infiniti mechanic or a Independent Shop? Should I expect an Independent shop to have known about this vehicle even having this option, or is that something I should only expect my Infiniti Dealer to know about?
We are an independent shop. But when dealing with independence you really need to ask them where they get their knowledge from. My business partner and I both have 20 years dealership experience. So we’ve been trained by OEM manufacturers such as Nissan Lexus and Mercedes-Benz. Keep in mind these are complicated systems and if an independent shop isn’t continuing their education they’re gonna get left in the dust.
Working on one right now and its a pain in the ass with no lift and its rusty as can be I have to cut off the camber bolt for the spring bucket as well as the lower control arm one just to get the arm out
This actually a common problem ,mine has 124k on it the same exact issue the tire broke off while driving. Now the front suspension is all over the place too. These things after 100k need a full over haul with new components
I'm working on one now and not that I know of its a pain in the ass with no lift and all the rust I'm in mn as well and the one I'm working on is a 2014 qx80
Very helpful video. I just bought a 2017 QX80 from Carvana it was a PA car. I noticed some rust on the trailer hitch area and wanted to know if there are other points of failure i should look at. Should I be concerned about this rust? Thanks in advance!!!
@@JeffSh00ts overall the QX80 and Armada are great vehicles. There were some issues with the cylinder 7 misfire which I would highly recommend you doing research on before purchasing.
Mine did the same thing also the subframe rusted holes all the way through them these things should be recalled that's nonsense just barely hit 100,000 miles
OMG, mine did the same thing 5 months ago. Both rear control arms were gone on mine. The welds were completely rotted out. And had to go in for a hydraulic active suspension system to get bled out. Now the air compressor is about trashed. So done with this POS!
It's a tough one to just give a number too. To be fair, I charge a half hour for every broken bolt. We also only use OEM parts. This can range from $500-$800. It just depends how much rust there is.

Same issue here in Florida. My control arm was fine but, same story with sound and compressor
They ain't "mechanics" if all they can do is chk DTC's and ship it.
VISUALLY INSPECT...ROAD TEST...RUN AWAY FAST!

Great tip Sir, thank you!
In MN just noticed rust starting in this spot - so thanks for this. Is this something NHTSA should be alerted to?

What does it cost to fix this?
