I'm thinking about getting my first crawler and am torn between kit and RTR. This thingy is more money than a Perfectly Good Brushed Combo however it looks completely perfect in everything I've seen about it. Also your reviews are great. :)
@@marcochavanne4749 that was for a sensored brushless. You can do a sensorless setup for around 40 if you already have a decent transmitter and receiver. Probably 100 for a decent esc, brushless motor, and new transmitter and receiver. And at that point I'd probably agree it's better to get a second one. I converted one of mine to brushless and it's more of a basher than a crawler now. I enjoy it though.

I just ordered a 2200 fusion 2in1. I have watched dozens of reviews and read through hundreds of comments and only found 2 ligit complaints about this and there corrected from the manufacturer. On the 9 th i will have mine from amain hobby. 😀

The only issue with this I see is if something were to break you have to replace the unit however I really see the use in this for tight situations or ones where you need to save space I think that is where this unit really shines. Would you suggest is if you were doing a trail finder to set up with the interior kind of like you’re doing with your Marty McFly build seems like it would definitely save you some space
I wouldn't put it in a heavy rig, I have it in a heavy trx4 and I'm going to take it out it gets way too hot way too fast. Crawls amazing but I'm not really impressed with it.
Love your channel bro. Love the passion u have for the hobby. The ONLY thing is rubbish in the Fusion is every time motor or ESC goes you Will need to buy both again. But Guess that Will be good for someone.
Not really interested in buying it for my hardcore crawlere. Whenever in the AXE combo 1 complement fails you can simply replace it. Here with this fusion you will have to replace the whole system. But still good foor just scaling 👍🏻
My Gen 8 Axe Edition burned the motor up after a few months. I CANNOT find a replacement or upgrade motor without buying a whole kit from Hobbywing. Redcat said Hobbywing must warranty it, but Hobbywing hasnt helped in over 6 months and said I have to send everything back to them and wait a few months for replacement. Very frustrating
Nice! I really trust your reviews. On my Capra. I put the Hobbywing ESC on a piece of lexan and fastened it to the inside of the passenger cage. Plenty of room. =)
It's a fair point but if your worried you would install something traditional. These are perfect for scale builds with full interior and limited room for electronics, and you still get some really good performance included. Most high quality electronics are super reliable now a days. I've seen one of these pulled a part, they're super waterproof and built well with good sized shielded bearings, ran really cool in a 6 to 7 lb truck on hot day.
3s max voltage. 1200 and 1800 kv options. Heat should not be a crawling issue at those limits. I guess gearing up too high ( if even possible) would be the downfall in the heat department. It is a good option for some imo.
I have driven the Axe stuff and it is great. My only issue with the brushless crawler stuff is drag brake, specifically on a steep decline when transitioning from brake to part throttle. VS a brushed system the brushed motor feels good where the brushless feels a bit weird on the transition. I have not had the opportunity to test the Axe here so would be curious if you could check that out for us. =) Thanks!!!1!
I saw this at my local hobby shop in.the 1200kv version and was curious if this would fit in the axial capra (which I just ordered online) with the so called 'interior'? I asked them if it would fit and they told me it wouldn't. But seeing how they don't sell any axial products I don't think they actually know. Dunno if it matters but I wanted to use the dig function. Thanks 😎
Thanks for video - very interesting. Right now I'm choos what upgrade parts to buy for TRX-4 sport. And this combo is perfect. But I see one major disadvantage. If something go wrong and ECS will broke - it would be impossible to replace it. If you have separate box with ECS - it's not a problem, just disconnect it from motor, buy new one and run again. But in this "2-in-1" case - it's not an option. Does this package includes programm LED card?
Very good video - as always. I have the HW FOC Axe 540 2300kV in my TRX4 and am super happy with it, in case of "what to buy NOW" i think i would consider (or go) with the Fusion system, as Bluetooth is nice but i don´t really need for a crawler after once finding its sweet spot. Also 50 bugs cheaper and "more integrated / less cables / in some Rig´s better weight balancing possible". Wondering if the standard 540 combo performs (noticable) any different than the "standard" Axe Combo. Nice to see any innovation, Motor/ESC "in one" i find much more "useful" than the ESC/Receiver combinations (what axial did).
Very good concept if it can dissipate the heat good and have lasting durability. You would have figured the racing world would have been using this concept for weight loss and distribution purposes. Leads me to thinking they will heat each other up and have too much thermal loss. Just thinking out loud. Great concept for multiple applications if they don't over heat each part packed together. Great video!
Great point! I think the key here is they designated crawler application only. The heat demands are usually very low. There's heat sink and fan options too. And pinion.

You said you can't fit the hobby wing axe in your capra unless you have the interior out ? You can in my capra the esc is on the battery tray and have the interior in place 👍. Its tight but all fits together fine

It’s controlling the stator’s polarity to control the rotor... so both! . Btw, lower kv does not mean more torque. All else equal, gearing, voltage, and weight, a higher kv motor will make more torque and have a higher rpm. Gear a lower kv motor up to the same wheel speed as a higher kv motor or raise the voltage to get the same rpm and it will make the same power. Lower kv motors allow for more voltage which in turn brings more torque. . Kv is basically the resistance of the motor. Lower kv reduces the possible current, since voltage = current times resistance (v=ir), as it raises resistance. . Ask Señor Holmes.
@@jameshankssr466 kv does mean rpm per volt but lower kv = more resistance all else equal just as I wrote... unless you think longer thinner wire has the same resistance as shorter thicker wire. . It’s not a coincidence that the lower the kv rating is the higher the resistance goes all else equal. . Resistance isn’t the only thing that determines rpm. The size and shape of magnetics, quality of parts, type of winding... but generally all of those attributes are too similar even between manufacturers.

Great review, what i hate about the trx-4 is that when you go really slow i hear this really high pitch note (iiiiiiiiiiiiii, yeah, something like that..) and it gets super annoying when you are standing close with the camera recording... This alone is a blessing to my ears.. I am interested in what the aprox runtime will be with a 5000mah lipo?

Possibility. The Boomracing though is much newer and articulates so much better. All coil to vs. all leafs that are very stiff. The TF2 is just an older, more established platform for that body. They'll go out together on many video shoots for sure.

OK but why? Packaging is easier with a separate esc/motor and heat soak is more of a problem with this setup. Less wires are good sure.... shorten them. Why is the switch separate if AIO is the concept? Might as well have the switch built in too.
It has the same torque as far as we know. This is only available in 1800kv right now. The 540 Axe has 1200kv, 1800kv and 2300kv versions. Great torque, rpm, not so high.
I'm looking forward to seeing how well the drag brake works on the defender. I have a hobbywing 1080 ESC on my trx4 but it will not hold the defender while going downhill. My drag brake is set at 100%. I hope you do a drag brake test.
This is the same price as the micro x crawler. It’s a neater package, but can’t handle as much power and can’t change motors. This is definitely a great idea for ultra clean scalers, but I’d like to see it pushed further with a higher kv and voltage handling.
The esc is so small they likely can’t run it with a higher kv motor. This is a cool idea, but I’d like to see it further. . Imagine a 42mm wide can with a 20mm diameter and 20mm long rotor operating on 8s and 1200kv. That would give a peak of 40,000 rpm, similar to a 3500kv on 3s, but with much lower current needed to reach the same power output. You can even tell the esc to increase voltage only when the amperage level is within spec so that it won’t build up too much heat since current creates heat. . Just a thought.
Todd N. This motor and esc is a huge upgrade... ruclips.net/video/1Ac_FA9ivF4/видео.html . 0-15mph with tons of control and on radio adjustments. That’s on 4s. On 6s it’s way more powerful and can hit over 20mph.

Kyosho has a motor ESC combo too. It is not under the Kyosho, but under Team Orion. It is the same design as what you were testing.

Yes it includes a program card. I can’t recommend this set up enough! Put it in my trx4 and it’s amazing

Do you think that this is strong enough for a 5kg rig? It's a 540 can after all. Is it stronger ( for the same gearing) than say a HH crawlmaster 15T?

Not ideal. All our TRX6's in the group have a 550 can 3300kv Hobbywing and it is ideal! So much power and control even for bashing.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well the drag brake works on the defender. I have a hobbywing 1080 ESC on my trx4 but it will not hold the defender while going downhill. My drag brake is set at 100%. I hope you do a drag brake test.

This is the same price as the micro x crawler. It’s a neater package, but can’t handle as much power and can’t change motors. This is definitely a great idea for ultra clean scalers, but I’d like to see it pushed further with a higher kv and voltage handling.

The esc is so small they likely can’t run it with a higher kv motor. This is a cool idea, but I’d like to see it further.

Imagine a 42mm wide can with a 20mm diameter and 20mm long rotor operating on 8s and 1200kv. That would give a peak of 40,000 rpm, similar to a 3500kv on 3s, but with much lower current needed to reach the same power output. You can even tell the esc to increase voltage only when the amperage level is within spec so that it won’t build up too much heat since current creates heat.

0-15mph with tons of control and on radio adjustments. That’s on 4s. On 6s it’s way more powerful and can hit over 20mph.
This is nice! But when one burns out you have have to replace both if they are separate you only replace one so no i wont buy one
This is half the price and it is very difficult to burn a Hobbywing brushless
