This is the first thing of the telemetry smart stuff that has gotten my attention, as programing from the radio is a nice touch. I have a Fusion and it is so awesome I don't know if I could justify getting a new radio to run this system.
it's made by Hobbywing. basically same thing accept with the Axe you can program through your phone vs stumbling through your controller, & the Axe is DEAD Silent whereas this makes that annoying whineing noise, atleast here on his test run it did... 👍🏼
If you are not in the spectrum ecosystem the axe makes more sense... a little cheaper and bluetooth programming. If you are already using spectrum stuff this seems like a decent product, especially if you like how the axe runs and you want telemetry.
I have the axe in my redcat gen 8 but it’s really not smooth at low speed. I am kind of new to the hobby so that might be on me with setup. If anyone has any tips on the axe setup please share👍🏻 also great content and video. That setup seems really good for people like me with not a ton of RC knowledge. Cheers🤙💥💯
Of the the rebranding of Hobbywing ESC/Motors, this is the best. I love the fact you can change settings from the controller, where as the AXE you use Bluetooth from your phone. I've been using a AXE since they came out and Love it. Now I may have to try the Spectrum setup with the DX5 pro 2021... Nice job with the review Greg!
I just bought the G2 Axe 550 3300kv. The firma has the previous Axe 60amp ESC whereas the Axe G2 has an 80amp. The biggest issue the Spektrum doesn’t have is a Bluetooth interface like the Axe. I’d much rather program on my phone than to have to fumble through transmitter menus or buy a special program box. I guess if you already have a DX5 and you like it maybe the Spektrum version is worth it.
I got the AXE 540L and setting the ESC with a app is the best thing ever. Simply take out your phone and chance stuff right there on the trial , you can't make that any better.
Of course the crawler system looks better than my 3300 kv and 85 amp ESC combo I just bought last week for my son's Slash. Had a couple issues putting it in but finally done with a 23 tooth pinion and a 86 tooth spur. I still love our Spektrum system and will buy another but this one looks great. Thanks buddy! Speaking of ESC programmer, there's one waiting for me at my LHS! Even though I don't think it's v2.
Spektrum has been making a huge push in their systems the last few years, they are in it to win it it seems. But I think hobbywing is still your best bet for performance and cost. Most likely they are both made in the same factory, ha
200% drag brake made me think of this Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
Looks alot like the hobby wing axe combo only without the 5mm shaft and the battery connection probably cost more than the hobby wing to , will stick to hobby wing as I don't need a smart battery and new charger on top
i run Spektrum in all my RC"s except my Crawler. i have a Hobby Wing. I'll be getting this right away. I love having the Spektrum telemetry, Especially having upgraded all my Batteries to G2 and the new chargers
So I have that same set up in my crawler (Axial SCX 10 II raw builders kit) and I think it’s an absolute great system for that crawler. My only issue and question is why is it so loud? I noticed in your video yours is loud just like mine.
I would love to know if the system will fit into a Capra. I know they’re limited on the amount of space in there. If this system doesn’t fit do you know if they have one that does? Keep up the good work.
Neat to see you at RC Madness! That's my home store. No Bluetooth programming or 4s, the two things that I think would make it a potent aftermarket competitor to the HW Axe system. It's neat that you can do it within the Spektrum family with the new radio, but I want BT so I can do small adjustments in the field with my Flysky GT5 and without needing a programming card. Plus the onscreen interface on the new DX5 didn't look great- there are tons of really good inexpensive LCD screens out there and they need a better designer for the GUI. I don't mind on my $70 Flysky GT5, but at $300?! Ouch. Not to mention the SR2100 is freaking $90 for a 3 channel receiver, which you will use up with throttle/steering/fan. Adding lights and a winch gets tough. Can't complain about that great drag brake adjustment range, though! You didn't mention a price that I heard- I assume in the $200 range to compete with Hobbywing? I'm not seeing enough to make me want to switch from an Axe system on a new build. Nice to have another option out there, though! Maybe they will have it priced well enough to include it as the stock system in a new SCX10IIIv2. I think Redcat proved with the Gen8 Axe that people are willing to buy an RTR with better electronics.
It’s looking like the Hobbywing Axe FOC copy under Spektrum orange. Yes the sensor wire extension is an optional parts to buy. Not sure from Spektrum but Hobbywing sales it.

It will. Just be mindful of the connector. This system is best used with the Spektrum Ecosystem.
@@rcdriver the connecter to the battery? I plan to make it deans, or the shaft connection? I’m using the stock radio it comes with for now but will upgrade to the spektrum dx5 later
@@stickmanjoe99 it is essentially an axe. Which you can get in a gen 8 (I have one). It works great. I don't know how well changing plugs will work. I don't know if any data flows through the battery plugs
Can I fit this in a TRX-4?
I just bought an Axe system. Something told me that if I would just wait, Spectrum would be coming out with a brushless system. Same price to. Oh, well.
I prefer hw anyway all good stuff though
Actually, this is literally a rebranded axe system, so you don't need to replace it.
Sweet .
Should have had shift on the fly brake options for rock racing etc.
Hobbywing with a Spektrum tune
I viewed because it said set up smart telimatry .not watching him crawl. What a jip
I got this setup for my wraith and I have a little bit of a stutter at low speeds, have not programmed it yet, anyone got suggestions as to what the issue may be?
Yea, haven't installed it yet anyway so it is still in the box. They should've added blu-tooth to the Spectrum, that's one thing I like about the Axe, plus it's 3300kv. Everything else I use is already Spectrum, though. Decisions, decisions.
the best thing about axe is the auto drag brake
Cool.
Do one on the Traxxas Spartan Please,I have 2 of them,I think it they are Great

@@rcdriver Thanks ps;I love your show
Will this work with a RUGGED controller or are you stuck with having to buy a PRO 2021?
Rugged will work just fine.
Hobby wing all the way
Looks Just like the Hobbywing censored motor I just got
I need this haha...
Wow are you from CT so am I R/C Madness is only 20 min away from my house
Yup. But Madness is almost 2 hours for me.
@@rcdriver so I want to get into crawling I have no experience in crawling what would you suggest would be a good starting rig and with what electronics?
Woow 👍
does the esc programming work with the DX5C?
If it is updated yes :)
@@SpektrumRCvideos Thanks!
@SpektrumRC same for DX5 Rugged?
@@highlandcrawler yes
Only 4amp BEC for a crawler esc? Start throwing 400oz digital steering servos at it with a heavy rig, that's not going to cut it. Should be around 8-10amp, IMO.
