I've made these before and going to make them again! I do prefer to call them lavender bottles rather than wands. Very cute and thanks for the reminder of creating some wonderful lavender LoVe! :)
You can grow it pretty easily, as long as you have a patch of full sun. Or try googling lavender farms near your area. Not sure which part of Wisconsin you're in, but I know there are some lavender farms in your state. You can usually get a good size bunch of lavender stems for a couple bucks from a lavender farm.
There are two more videos on making Lavender wands, the other two use ribbon or lace to weave in and out of the stems going all the way down to where the heads stop. They will still dry out nicely but adding the ribbon ensures the buds don't fall out.
These are beautiful!. I tried make it myself but the problem I have encountered is that my stems are much bigger or meatier so the "bottle" gets kind of wet and soft. I guess it's just the type of lavender plants I have. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you and I love your work :)
+1071alessandra Try doing the bottle as far making the cage part, just pulling the stems down around the heads. Then leave it for like a week, so it has a chance to dry. It should slim down the stems a bit and keep everything dryer.
Melainey Walker You can use it either way, but if you wait until it turns to seed, just make sure it's in the early seed stage where the seed pods are still soft. If it's to the point where they're dried out, then they'll be falling off while you're weaving and it makes a huge mess.
The best way is if you can use fresh picked lavender stems. They're nice and flexible and don't break. If you don't have that option, then try soaking your lavender stems in warm water for 15 minutes. Should make them more flexible and less likely to break.
I had never seen that done to lavender before. How gorgeous !
I love it! Thanks for sharing with us. I am looking forward of making it

This is darn cool stuff!
x2malandy Thanks, they're a lot of fun to make.
Thank you. I love this
Never heard of lavender bottles until A Dangerous Collaboration in the Veronica Speedwell Victorian mystery series.
Oh so cool that they had them in a book series! I might have to check out now.

So is it a different method than the ribbon weaving I did around the heads here? Sounds rather interesting.
Where do you get the lavender? I'm in Wisconsin. Very Pretty!

I see what you are saying, make sense! I will try that way, thank you very much :)
Hi do you use lavrndar that is in flower, or wait till lavender turns to seeds? thanks!

Thank you for you quick reply. :)
Thankyou for your quick reply. :)
How about turning lavender into bracelet or necklace ?
***** hmm, never thought of that. I'll have to try it this summer when the lavender comes on.
Ive tried this and the problem I'm encountering is that my stems are breaking not bending? Any suggestions?

Thanks. I will try soaking them. I am cutting them fresh, no I'm not sure why they aren't flexible enough.
Sorry to reply a year later, hopefully you have found a solution, but perhaps it's because they were picked too long after the flowers had opened?
