@Jach Liccroy That's such a poor comparison. CoD is a much larger franchise with a bigger player-base. And they don't even have the same style of game. Battlefield matches are huge games of Ground War, and while CoD usually does have a Ground War mode, it's hardly played because people prefer the smaller TDM or Search n Destroy

They don't, these details have like 0.001% on your total experience with it, of course like you say it makes it more immersive, more believable, but jesus I find it so dumb the millions of people who use this type of videos to judge entirely a game, saying Red Dead 2 is the best game ever because they saw in some RUclips compilation that horses have balls, when meanwhile the game has a game design from 2003 and gives you a game over for even trying to flank a group of ennemies. The stupid useless shit casuals base themselves on to judge the quality of a game is unreal. You'd think but the reality is that they don't. I've played MW/warzone a lot. Barely noticed any of these things. They're pointless.
Most notable imo is the weapon sling. I've never seen something more useless and by extension, detrimental to the experience. Why? Well for starters the asset is still there. There's clearly physics attached to it and there needs to be a more elaborate system in place for things to work that way. Compare that to bf 2042. It does it right. Swap to secondary and your primary despawns. Why is this right? Resources. Optimisation etc.
I'd also like to point out the fact that bf 2042 has 128 players. MW doesn't even come close. Ground war is all it has basically.
Warzone is different in the fact that there's definitely things left out or changed just so they can get 100 player lobbies to work properly.
So in reality it's not really a 1 to 1 comparison.
But yeah, there's so much detail that's just fucking irrelevant in MW. Impressive on the devs for doing that. Ultimately pointless as it doesn't make the game inherently better

I mean I'd say the grenades not rolling in 2042 kinda breaks immersion, but it's also a game. Games working exactly like real life isn't always good. I've missed so many guaranteed grenade kills in CoD just by NOT using semtex (though I did get pretty good timing the fuse)
And why do people use semtex? To stick? No, not really. Its cus it lands where you want it to explode and then it fucking explodes and kills the people. Not bounce and end up in a different post code or god forbid back right where it was thrown from :V

The times have definitely changed. I never thought there would be a day when CoD's level of realism and attention to detail would eclipse a Battlefield title (if you could even call that 2042 garbage a Battlefield title to begin with). And I have always been more a Battlefield fan than a CoD fan having played both for more than 15 years. I still remember when people were shitting on MW3's lack of attention to detail when compared to BF3 & BF4, for things like the mags in the trailer and game itself, literally being just a block with no visible bullets remotely visible on it when reloading. Fast forward some 8 - 10 years later and the tables have flipped almost completely. With the new MW2 coming in hot and honestly looks breathtaking, if the next Battlefield title is another flaming heap of garbage like 2042, CoD is gonna mop the floor with the BF franchise and personally I'm for it. Because those current Battlefield devs and anyone from EA who's responsible, need a thorough beat down and a real taste of failure to maybe get them back on the right track. Otherwise, it's been a complete derailment of the Battlefield franchise.

Great video. 2 things to note though. The click sound you’re hearing, in real life is actually the sound of the trigger resetting. It does technically happen when you release the trigger, but the sound is actually caused by the trigger resetting back to the fully unfired position so you can fire again. Secondly, the barrel on a hand gun doesn’t tilt so the rounds can slide into the chamber easier lol.. it’s because that particular gun uses a browning tilting barrel style recoil delay/locking method. So when the slide comes back and the barrel tilts up, it’s actually because the gas pressure has increased enough to unlock the action and cycle the firearm.

The time and resources spent on that could have been put elsewhere. For CoD that is modeling leg position and for BF that would have been better used modeling one-handed ladder climbs or rolling grenades. Likewise modeling pin deformation for BF and Car suspension and tire deflation could have been spent on weapon slings for the former and ground deformation and mobile vehicle hit markers for the latter.

The amount of effort that went into maintaining "realism" in MW 2019 was incredible. Almost every weapon modification was based on a real world counterpart. You could turn the M4 into an M16 or an MPX. The M9 could become a 93R, etc. But the most impressive detail, in my opinion, was the new way "slight of hand" functioned.
All of the weapon animations are amazing. Not only are there different animations for empty or combat reloads, but the attachments on the weapon also have an effect on the animations (large scopes, or folded stocks can block non ambidextrous controls, the P90 can't be reloaded while aiming because of the top loaded magazine, etc)
    But "SoH" really stood out.
The animation for the regular M4 empty reload, has the PC remove the empty magazine with the left hand, and retaining it, before inserting a full mag, slapping it to ensure it's seated (SPORTS, babyyy) and pulling the charging handle.
Equipping "slight of hand" didn't just increase the speed of the animation. It changed the animation to a more practiced, and efficient reload method. When empty, the PC would instead, grab a fresh magazine with the left hand, press the release letting the empty drop to the ground, insert the new mag, and then press the bolt release, instead of charging the weapon.
Not only was the reload faster, but the weapons ready time was also faster, and the point of aim is more consistent.
The AK reload switches to the over the top, left handed charging method, keeping the rifle shouldered, and the right hand on the trigger.
Every weapon in the game has several animations, for empty or combat reloads, with or without SoH, and dependant of the build of the weapon, and magazine choice.
Cold War has stocks wrapped in duct tape to make you slide faster...
Vanguard has an M1 rifle with a precision laser, advanced FLIR optic, and 30 round box magazine... Just like the one grandpa used...

The barrel tilt isn't there necessarily to help rounds in the chamber, it's part of the delayed blowback system in most modern pistols. Autoloading pistols that shoot 9x19mm parabellum and above power wise require a certain amount of resistance that simple blowback operation can't provide unless you have a really strong spring and a heavy slide, which would make the gun recoil heavy and make pulling the slide back a chore.

The barrel tilting up on the pistol at 4:00 is actually due to the locking system of the pistol (Browning tilting barrel). The vast majority of 9mm, 40, 45, and 10mm use this system of barrel lock up. It holds the action of the weapon closed for a fraction of a second so the gun doesn’t unlock too soon. It is necessary on any pistols 9mm and up (with some rare exceptions like hi points, or rotating barrel pistols (Beretta PX4), or gas operated pistols (H&K P7).

    • @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920
      @bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 2 года назад +37

@@rileyflint1619 an important part of a semi automatic pistols design is keeping the slide and barrel together for long enough for the explosion from the cartridge to dissipate. Otherwise you get the action (slide of the handgun in this case) opening pre-maturely and that explosion can split shell cases, shoot fire/unburnt powder out of the ejection port.
For low powered ammunition (generally 380 acp and down from there), the weight of the slide and the strength of the recoil spring are enough to keep the action (slide) closed for safe operation. This is referred to as a straight blowback gun.
Once you hit 9mm and above, the slide and recoil spring are generally not strong enough to keep the action closed for long enough for safe operation, unless you make the spring way stronger and the slide way heavier. Since making the spring way stronger and slide way heavier is impractical as it makes the gun heavier and harder to operate, alternative systems were designed to keep the action closed for that split second longer for the explosion to happen, essentially adding a bit of mechanical resistance into the mix.
That mechanical resistance in handguns is also referred to as “locked breach”. There are several types of mechanical resistance designs. The most popular of which is a John Moses Browning (best gun designer of all time, in many peoples opinion) tilting barrel design. As the gun is fired, the barrel and slide are locked together until a cam tilts the barrel up as you see in the video game animation. That slows down the opening of the action just enough to contain the explosion and make the gun safe to shoot. Rifles also have similar systems that accomplish the same thing (I could go into more detail on rifles bc they are a bit different, but this comment is long enough).
Long story short, it is a safety mechanism. Otherwise you could get burns or worse the gun could batter itself to death or explode in your hands, or a case rupture could occur. Always wear hearing and eye protection when shooting guns of any type.

The amount of detail is incredible for a cod game. Not only that in the battlefield revolver the fired cartridges have dented primers, the animation clearly shows the character dumping the not fired ammo first into his hand (not losing ammo) and then using the ejector to get rid of the spent cases.
I'm not sure how reliable this would be in an actual revolver - but the detail is based on reality - unfired cartridges should fall more or less freely from the cylinder. At the same time, it is expected that the spent ones will bulge a bit and don't fall freely from the cylinder when tipped, so an ejector has to be used - so the character here uses the difference to save unfired ammo while allowing himself to use speedloader. I love the reload.
Funny how everything else has less detail than MW and here they went overboard.

The barrels of these firearms do not tilt to assist with loading round, though I’m sure it helps. The barrel tilts due to the Browning tilting barrel lockup. When a round is fired, the entire slide shifts rearward about 1/4-1/2” to allow high pressure to equalize. Then the barrel “tilts” to unlock the barrel from the slide so the slide can complete its travel to the rear to eject the spent casing and pick up another round on its forward motion to then lock back up and to be fired again. 😊😃.
Edit: thanks for the upvotes friends. I really appreciate it!

    • @apersonontheinternet8006

I mean, it does inherently help with feeding in pistols because the feed ramp doesn't reach the magazine until the barrel travels into position as the slide goes rearwards. You are 100% correct, the primary design feature was tilt barrel lockup while the feed ramps were designed as such to account for the travel required to free up the slide.

Though I never played either, this video's an interesting case of what makes games more immersive. Both games have high fidelity models and shaders, but there is that certain something that comes with the world behaving in a believable way. Not necessarily realistic, but believable.
They definitely studied how their guns behave. My main gripe with BF2042 from what I've seen in this video is the temporal anti-aliasing that almost gives it a ghost effect sometimes.
What's cool about most of these animations and effects is they'd still work well even with much lower fidelity.

It's actually the unlocking of the action, the barrel has to move out of the way so the slide can move backwards to eject the spent casing and load the next round in the magazine. Still, that's a nice detail they added in MW, much more realistic than BF 2042.

3:58 is a bad comparison they are different guns.
not all Glock pistols point upwards when the magazine is emptied. This behavior is dependent on the specific model and the individual firearm's design.
Some Glock models, such as the Glock 17, do have a tendency to point upwards when the magazine is emptied. This is due to the design of the magazine follower and the angle at which it pushes the slide stop lever when the last round is fired.
However, other Glock models, such as the Glock 19, do not exhibit this behavior and may instead simply lock the slide open without pointing upwards.

The pistol barrel tilting isn't anything to do with getting rounds in more easily, it's because the barrel tilts to unlock the slide during each cycle (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recoil_operation). Not all pistols work like this, e.g. the Beretta 92 / M9 and they feed just fine.

Tilting barrel is not for rounds to slide easier into the chamber. It's a way to delay the backwards movement of a slide. If there wasn't delay, the slide would be impacting with too much of force. Manufacturers get around it by either making slide bulkier and heavier (e.g. hi-point pistols), tilting barrel (most common among pistols), rotating barrel (e.g. some berettas or grand power) and few other methods that are not that common.

  • @Doc41295
    @Doc41295 2 года назад +45

It's a small nitpick but the barrel on pistols doesn't tilt to help feeding. The barrel tilt is what allows it to unlock from the slide as it reciprocates so the gun can function. Most handguns use this Browning tilting barrel design, but not all. The m9 for example uses a fixed barrel design where it does not move at all.
Edit: I was wrong, the M9 uses a falling block action. Still different than the tilting barrel in that it only moves front to back but it is not fixed.

I was a BF fan since BF2. BF4 is my favorite FPS game. When MW2019 came out, I had a hard time deciding if BF was my favorite franchise. I was so hyped with BF2042 coming out, since they set the standard for excellence, however it was such a disappointment. The team at IW REALLY stepped it up with MW2019 and especially Warzone. Now, Warzone is the better of the two, but I'm not fond of Caldera. Verdansk is pinnacle of how to make a modern FPS BR map.
I hope with MW2, they make the same type of map. COD has surpassed BF now! I think we need to give developers more time to make the game that we want instead of this stupid new game every year. I bet it took IW 2 or 3 years to make Verdansk.

It’s cool to see these kinds of details, but most of them are so incredibly insignificant. Though still small, the most immersion breaking ones by far were the lack of craters and faulty leg position in MW. Craters seem kinda difficult to pull off but the leg positioning is something that’s been figured out for well over 10 years. Overall I wouldn’t fault the developers for missing details in either, but it does seem weird that the MW team nailed so many small details but missed 2 of the biggest ones.

The tilting barrel is a locked breech system designed by the late and great Mr. J.M. Browning. Also called “tilting breech” is where the barrel and the slide both have locking lugs which seal the gasses then begin to unlock when pressures have dropped safely. Once the slide moves back slightly the lugs begin to disengage, the barrel link and pin are engaged to work like a fulcrum to pivot the barrel down as the slide simultaneously travels rearward. When it moved forward the breech face picks up a new round, The barrel snaps back up simultaneously as the link and pin are completing their travel back in position with the lugs in the slide re-engaging the barrel lugs.

Destruction.. this makes it look legit like CoD took all the talent from the BF team and traded their own team to work for the new BF game...
Legit looks like the 2042 team is the people who worked on the intial version of CoD Modern Warfare through Infinite Warfare... And the new modern warfare looks like the experienced team that took on BF3 and even better BF4. Except they got even better at their jobs xD
It looks like DICE have paid a bit more attention in some areas, but this is just a sad showing when you compare it to BF4.. a game released almost 10 or more years ago... didnt have all the MW features of today's gaming expectations, but overall BF4 is just... so much better of a showing than 2042.. sad to see.
