And the lack of footage from ARCA and the BUSCH series among others online is a sad thing. I'm pretty sure you would have a lot of people interested in it, but it's probably to do with rights to the footage etc? We can all dream, maybe one day.

Wow i miss nascar the tracks were different so different then today. Now the tracks are so clean and perfect almost like bowling alley .the race tracks had real personality and uniqueness back then even the cars
I started watching NASCAR as a kid in the '60s on Wide World of Sports and followed it all the way up until the mid '90s when I thought it had changed too much, many of the old familiar names were gone, and I lost interest in it. I remember these '80s races, names, and cars very well and watched them live whenever I could. This video reminded me that back then my wife liked Earnhardt's #3 Wrangler car because she thought the colors were "pretty". 😄
Anthony And The Machine it was. Back then it was only a half-mile race track. It was reconfigured in '88 to what we currently have.

They need to go back to the half mile, be more like Martinsville and Bristol then. Racing is still good there, just looked better as a half mile bull-ring.

Not sure if there's a specific instance that you're speaking of, but, the commentators were all very into the race, and, enjoying, much as any ordinary fan in the stands...only, what they were saying, was being broadcast. Personally, I consider Benny's impromptu Danny Joe Brown impression, when exclaiming, "And...Joe Ruttman spins around!!!", to be one of my favorite NASCAR TV moments ever. It makes me laugh, no matter how many times I watch it, and, reminds me that there used to be a time when some leeway was given to the guys in the booth, allowing them to let us know that they loved watching, as much as we did.
The commentators were like fans just bullshitting about the race. And that's what we all want in sports. Enjoyable commentators. Guys like darell waltrip and Dale Jr. Excitement. Something we've lacked for years. In all sports. The XFL for example picked perfect commentators. They bullshit with eachother and make it enjoyable to watch. As for the camera work, I do agree with you about the random crowd shots.
Love or hate Dale Earnhardt you gotta respect him for his attitude on the track. It was a brotherhood to him and he respected all his fellow drivers the same.
I know what 3 was going to do, he was going to cut across 11s bumper causing the 11 to correct and move up the track then the 3 would cut under him to win the race.. an old dirt track move, the 3 misjudged it by 2 or 3 inches. you seen the results. Earnhardt did say he misjudged Waltrips bumper later on. Darrel was super mad I don't blame him but in all honesty he shouldn't have passed the 3 on the strait, he should have slowed up and held the 3 on the outside of 3 and 4 insuring the victory. I'm sure he sees that now.

If your car was faster than Earnhardt he would wreck you (really good sportsmanship) if he had half a chance. Dale wrecked Terry Labonte at the end of the race at Bristol and 90% of the fans booed Earnhardt in victory lane.
That’s what cost Dale his ride with Junior Johnson. Junior said Dale had always wanted to drive for him and Junior was gonna hire him and after Dale wrecked Darrell at Richmond Dale went to Junior’s garage area to tell him he didn’t mean to wreck Darrell like he always said when he got in a “wreck”and Junior said just get out of here Dale and don’t ever come back. Junior said Dale could have killed Darrell that there wasn’t any sense in hitting anybody that hard.

The smoother and cleaner the track surface, the better the racing action... And, I'm pretty sure they had track cleaners back then, too.
