I have been holding out on getting a new kindle for 7 years. I still have the original kindle paperwhite. I'm excited to say that I will finally be upgrading now that this one has USB-C.

I also just bought my first Kindle (2019's 10th gen standard version). It has been somewhat of a revelation for me. The e-ink screen, size and weight make reading so much more enjoyable. I can't believe I waited this long to try one.

When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.
I have a feeling the oasis will be phased out. The newer Kindles have increased lighting, warmer lighting and increased storage with same ppi. The oasis is without usb-c and still damned expensive at $249.00. I always wanted an oasis but I cannot justify that steep price tag when the other Kindles do the job the same. Ten week battery life, based on an hour and a half reading per day??? I’m in.
The Kindle Oasis has dropped to $199 twice a year for the past two years, that’s when ow as planning on buying one, and it closes the pricing gap quite a bit. But I still don’t know that the features are worth it, and honestly the lack of USB-C feels like a downgrade. Plus once they DO update the Oasis it’ll probably be a while before they discount it.
I would like them also on the 8 GB version. As well as the self-adjusting light. I have them on the Voyage, so switching to the regular paperwhite would be a downgrade for me. Too bad, because I would love the 6.8-inch screen.
With these new upgrades and updates to the Paperwhite series, I would not be surprised if the Oasis was eventually discontinued, kind of like the Voyager. If the Oasis is really your favorite, then this Christmas (Black Friday or Cyber Monday) may be the best chance to snag one. I have no inside track on this, but Amazon has been known to discontinue models.
This is my first time upgrading kindle in 5 years. Didn't realize how old my kindle was until I got this one. Wow! The device has really come a long way. Super excited.
Great video! Though I will say….the signature edition is overrated big time. The auto brightness and wireless charging are overrated features. So is 32GB of storage unless you’re planning on an insanely ridiculous amount of graphic novels and/or using it for audiobooks(but why would you if you have a smartphone?!) The regular 8GB model will be more than enough for majority of readers.
The real deal is the Kids’ Version, for $20 more than the Standard paperwhite you will get a 2 year no worry warranty, case and 1 year subscription to Kids+ which has kids novels like Harry Potter and others.
I'm getting my Mom one of these for Christmas! Didn't know it includes a type-C to type-A cable! Damn, bought her a cable because I thought it would include a type-C to type-C cable!

I would do it just for the extra storage. I currently have an Oasis 3 (8GB, the only model available in my country). And I'm not running out of storage but I would love to fill it with Mangas or comics and that could quickly fill up 8GB. Cause yeah wireless charging doesn't make much sense and I don't like the light sensor really i always set illumination manually
@@jorgerincon6874 for me personally I always turn off the auto light on my devices. It used to be a battery consumption concern on cell phones (probably negligible, especially on this). But I don’t really need it to constantly adjust like a phone. If I’m a book I’m not constantly moving in and out of different lights. As for the storage, I see your point.
@@OkiDingo Oh of course, I always leave mine at 14, not too bright not too dim. That's why I don't like the sensor it's or too bright in the day or too dim at night so yeah only the 32Gb are the selling point IMO
I wish they would put the buttons back on the sides. I have a super old one that does and it's so nice to use but it hasn't been updatable years and I don't want an Oasis 😭
I would highly recommend getting the signature version ad-free. It's just a small luxury and while yes, it's more expensive, it's absolutely worth it. Just treat yourself it's such a fantastic little device that will last you 5+ years easily.

Excellent review, in Mexico the specs for the signature edition mention that this model include bottoms for “turn pages” I think that’s a lie because I didn’t see it in you kindle ☹️
Excellent review. You also get a Bonus for reading "Atomic Habits". I recently bought the older 2018 paperwhite model but I hardly see a difference between the two that would justify an upgrade. What's your opinion ?
Good question. Unless you really need a USB-C port. I don't see why you should upgrade. The screen is bigger and brighter. But as long as you can still read books and you're happy I wouldn't plop down the extra cash for it.

Would you say that the oasis would be best for less hand fatigue, and fingers not accidentally hitting the screen on the signature edition such as accidentally turning the page etc?? I've seen in multiple videos people saying you can set the "Display Cover"--mine doesn't have that. I called Kindle support and they didn't even know what I was talking about. Do you have any idea why it's not on the series 11?
Damn, I bought the previous gen just this summer too lol. I do like the small compact size though, weighs less than my iphone. If you haven't ever bought a Kindle before, just get this new 2021 edition. It looks like an upgrade in every aspect versus older Kindles/PaperWhites. Also, with the ppi remaining the same at 300 on both, the older 2018 paperwhite will technically show sharper text than this new 2021 model, but the larger screen size will fit way more words on screen than the old 2018 model. Still, get this new one if you haven't had owned any before.
Of course not, this new Kindle also has 300 ppi, they are pixels per inch, it does not matter the size of the screen the same pixels per inch therefore it will look the same, you are confusing that with screen resolution.
I just got the 8GB yesterday. Downloaded my 227 ebooks, and still have over 5GB storage open. I have Kindle app on my iPhone and iPad, but my motivation in getting this is that there is no distractions on the device. Once I downloaded my books, there is no reason to keep it connected. I will sync when needed, but otherwise, all my books are with me. I bought a leather case, and would recommend that simply to protect from scratching. Especially when reading at bedtime, it’s nice to just read and not have any distractions from any online apps. The screen on this is amazing…easier on the eyes, and in direct sunlight literally no glare. Big difference than reading from the iPad. Less weight and perfect size in the Kindle. Did I need it? No. Absolutely glad I got it though. Definitely will consume more reading with it…and it’s nice to disconnect from other digital consumption while doing so. My thoughts !

Why is 9W usb charging so much faster than 10W Qi charging ? I know that Qi charging has a terrible efficiency but I assume 10W Qi charging actually means you have like a 18W usb charger to power the charging base ..

The only problem I have with the news Paperwhite is the size, I like the thinner bezels and the warm light but my kindle Paperwhite 2018 is already big for my small hands (it makes suffer my weak wrists). Plus it fits in my smallest handbag. A Paperwhite the same size but with thinner bezels would be perfect .. 😶

Does the signature edition automatically come with no ads? I saw that when comparing it to the original. The original has an option to have or not have ads, but he didn’t really specify if the signature edition is purchased with no ads. I’ve been thinking of buying a kindle for the longest time and I really like the paper white signature edition!

Hi Jim. Auto Brightness (that tick box) is exclusive to the Signature Edition. But the Warmth Schedule is not, so it's also on the non-Signature Paperwhite.

Ads are also shown in the library and cannot be turned off. If you have the ad version you cannot use cover view.

Is it possible to adjust the brightness on the non signature edition? aswell as the warmth factor?
Yes, it's possible but it's manual. The automatic option using the light sensor isn't there.
Yes the brightness slides is accessible via the drop down panel. Warmth too. It's just the Auto Brightness tick box that's not available.

new signatute kindle cannot be side loaded from pc. all books have to be downloaded individually (laborously) over the wi fi

Is it possible to load books via USB C or only via wifi?
If I didn't have an Oasis... I would definitely be buying the new PW. I'm curious... on my Oasis, as with others I've heard, I notice more than expected ghosting. Do you notice that on your Oasis? If so...how does the new PW compare?
I feel like I'm missing out. I've never been into reading and having these devices available is a temptation.

Does the signature edition automatically come with no ads? I saw that when comparing it to the original. The original has an option to have or not have ads, but he didn’t really specify if the signature edition is purchased with no ads. I’ve been thinking of buying a kindle for the longest time and I really like the paper white signature edition!

Great video! Question for you: when you showed the automatic warmth schedule, I noticed it must have been the signature edition. Does automatic warmth schedule exist on the base level paperwhite 5? In your video, I could see the button for auto brightness
Hi Jim. Auto Brightness (that tick box) is exclusive to the Signature Edition. But the Warmth Schedule is not, so it's also on the non-Signature Paperwhite.
I love my kindle paper white, it only needs charging around once per month, so it isn’t a real hardship to get the old usb cable out.

is the page turn the same speed as the current oasis?
I’ve been saying for too long that the thing holding me back from getting a kindle was microusb. Welp, guess I’m out of excuses!

How do you turn on the page turn animations? Didn't know it was a thing.
From the panel where you can change Themes and fonts select more then Page Turn Animation.
@@gadgetmatch wonder if only certain books support it. Can't seem to find it on my current update 10th gen. Getting my 11th gen signature tomorrow though!!!
