      I feel that it is part of the normal distribution of the iq. It's hard to find people to talk about this topic, cuz there are few people able to do that. So, there is a correlation between hard topics and complex minds, harder the topic, harder to find someone who can.
      But if you are that intelligent, you are born with the responsability of being GOOD and to teach people why good is better than evil

    they are mixing up things. the initial question was related to the fundamental questions of reality. but later they were also talking about details as part of the possible knowledge. here they/we should recognise the different truth categories. a priori vs a posteriori, analytic vs synthetic, fundamental vs applied etc.
    when we are looking for a priori, analytic and fundamental knowledge/truth (e.g. universal and timeless natural laws), the story is finite and converging. but when we are looking for a posteriori, synthetic and applied knowledge/truth (e.g. future event, human-made technology etc.). the former is related to the logic of reality (and to the source of existence) and it is finite, while the latter is related to the dynamics of reality (and to freedom) and it is infinite.

    Knowledge can be vast but not infinite. For instance all of reality is inside of mathematics. Mathematics can be used to model anything. However everything that mathematics can model doesn’t necessarily exist in reality so reality is a set within mathematics. Now, in mathematics we have many infinites such as the set of real numbers but we can demonstrate this knowledge with a single symbol. So it is possible to represent sets of infinite things in finite ways and thus knowledge is finite and thus we can theoretically achieve all knowledge. Sure we can run into issues like we can never know the current state of all matter in the universe but that isn’t really an issue.

    I think the points out Lex's fundamental unjustified assumption at 3:08. His opening question assumes that the complexity of fundamental physics is finite, and not only finite but surveyable in principle by the human brain. Maybe it is; maybe it isn't, but there is zero objective evidence for this. Moreover, even if the complexity of basic _physics_ is finite, the fundamental mysteries of the universe are not physical but metaphysical: What breathed life into a particular set of equations and made them a universe, and why? And why does consciousness feel like *this*?). Whatever picked out _those_ equations and breathed life into them is more important than anything inside the universe; and (with apologies to Descartes) consciousness is the only thing we can be sure exists at all. So even if we understood 100% of physics -- if that is possible which there is no reason to think it is -- we would still not have moved at all toward an explanation for the most important thing there is, nor of the only thing we know to really exist.
    The assignment of man is to climb the mountain one step at a time without knowing how high it is, or if it has a top at all. And that's OK with me.

    Can there really be free will when we are preprogrammed to select based on pain avoidance? That's why masochism is a construct of deviance.
    And also, by her explanation free will then only belongs to the wealthy or at least not the poor. As most people couldn't afford to board a flight and exercise free will to apply choices of when and where to spend time. Such mechanisms then would indicate that by design free will is restricted more on some than others and this cannot be applied to the universe as a whole; and this is not a random background. Therefore someone else must be commandeering the steering wheel, and free will is a figment. A fish still needs water and a bird soar, I don't understand this clip. In theories of the universe science more than free will applies, if you had been discussing capitalism and I have several choices of ice cream to choose from and could afford any of them, then free will could be asserted upon selection.
    Unless there's another conversation to apply here, like the universal pope, the vicar of Christ, and Jesus is the end of everything and yada yada yada,,; then I guess I don't 🤬 understand reality.

      She's inappropriately not just personifying, but self-identifying as, systems from which the dynamics that define her as an object are emergent. Basically she's making claims of strong emergence between consciousness will affecting quantum collapse... Aka the woo woo take on Copenhagen, which is sadly regressive.

    Just writing out Pi would take an infinite book so the book of science is easily endless. As we learn more, it is analogous to writing out Pi to more decimal places, ie, the theories get more accurate or newer theories are more accurate approximations of what reality is.

    • @howzittyoda
      @howzittyoda 4 месяца назад

      Pi is not a real thing. Nothing that is infinite can be computed or materialised. Pi is an algorithm that generates and endless stream of digits. You can therfore define Pi accurately and finitely as a description of the algorithm. You don't need to (and indeed cannot) unroll all it's digits.

    Sara Walker is obviously beyond brilliant, but this nonsense about freewill is just that, nonsense. Whether or not things are random at the quantum level and then emerge into a deterministic state is irrelevant! Freewill?! Free from WHAT?! If the world is random at bottom, all consecutive states are the product of randomness- ergo, no freewill! If the world is deterministic and everything follows a predictable and unavoidable state, things are unavoidable- ergo, no freewill! If it is some combination of BOTH- NO FREEWILL! Freewill is nothing but a concept and it has more to do with the quality of what it FEELS like to be a thinking feeling organism! Freewill has absolutely nothing to do with what is true about the world on a fundamental level, and is, in my view, something of an illusion. I exercised no more freedom in writing THIS than a Z particle exercises freedom in decaying into a muon or anti-muon. Random or not, no freewill!

    • @oh-no
      @oh-no 4 месяца назад +6

      Saying, feeling, believing, or trying to prove that people do not have free will (two words, not one.. DUH), is just an excuse for psychopaths with authority to let other psychopaths out of jail so that they can hurt more innocent people. It's just hoax so people can feel better about their decisions to hurt other people and allow people to hurt other people. It's just a cop-out for insane legislation and insane thought processies.

    • @viktorianas
      @viktorianas 4 месяца назад +3

      There is NO freewill on a fundamental level, but there are and should be consequences for whatever is considered harmful within certain social construct. Drunken person who acts literally by reptile brains still goes to jail... Yet any dog with even better brains than reptile gets away with anything and again it's a human owner who pays the fines or goes to jail. My point is that freewill and accountability is two different separate things, people still get prosecuted for consequences done with or without freewill.

    • @ardekakka

    • @Rampart.X

      Agree. Our consciousness is really more of an experience, like watching tv. The idea that we are free to choose from equal, lesser or greater courses is laughable. Only the 'greater' option makes any sense but that is deterministic and thus not an option at all.
      Missing from the conversation is a coherent conception of moral purpose for humanity. Our quest to merely exist indefinitely is deeply unsatisfying.
