I am having a great nostalgia here. Fun fact, I was the only one watching The Universe series in my school. So, I decided to pay other students to watch the series and the next day I would make them questions about black holes and multi-universes to give them their lunch wage. :)

Question... Why couldn't the acceleration of the universe's expansion not just be caused by regular matter far away from the center of the big bang that is just too far away to be observed?
I recently found this podcast and i am loving every single episode of it that i have listened to so far (10+), absolutely astonishing discussions and talks! Bravo!
This lex is a upgraded version of an artificial intelligence robot. And there only gonna get better. His podcast with Elon musk was classic. 2 robots trying to convince the audience that there not robots. Classic shit.
They're all full of shit have no proof of the bullocks they talk about mainstream academia biggest liars on Earth NASA is full of them James oberg the biggest dick head walking the planet also the biggest liar
This is one of my favourite interviews of you!! What an interesting guest (smart and enjoyable to listen to because of the enthusiasm) and your questions and answers are so smooth and add value. Thanks for the amazing content Lex!!!
Thank you Professor Filippenko. Inspiring that you got to be so good at explaining to others by: 1. not being afraid to ask questions as a student yourself and 2. continuously pushing yourself to teach introductory students and the general public. By making the effort to teach beginners, you as a teacher sharpen your own understanding at the same time. It struck me that is the same dynamic of the Universe. The outward process of creation requires the "extra exertion" of exploding stars to give birth to sentient life forms. The Universe can then "better understand itself" through the questioning of that sentient life looking back at Itself.
Alex Filippenko is so awesome! His TTC lectures (in addition to Sagan's Cosmos) are some of the sources that inspired me to study astrophysics many years ago, and have had a profound influence on my understanding (and open-minded-ness to new ideas) of the cosmos. Alex, if you're reading this and have time, please start creating RUclips content! Your enthusiasm is contagious and you'll also inspire others to study astrophysics & cosmology. edit: Just finished watching it. Such a thought-provoking conversation!
Great talk. I want to win an award in Physics one day. I found this discussion to be very exciting and informative. I love Alex's attitude and he deserved a part of the Nobel prize, but as long as he knows we know, I hope he finds great peace in that. Thank you both for you time.
How wonderful that Filippenko is one of the top scorers in views among the Lex Fridman podcasts. I followed his original online lectures on astronomy/cosmology I think about 15 years ago I believe on RUclips or some other online source. They were wonderful and so superclear, super well-prepared and meeting very high didactic standards. I was glad that Alex invited him for his podcast.
Alex is one of my fave scientists to catch on astronomy shows. Much appreciate his knowledge, enthusiasm, and ability to articulate ideas in accessible terms to a general audience. Fantastic interview - thanks Alex & Lex for this one.
So this is my new favorite astrophysicist. I've extensively listened to everyone from Neil Tyson, Jim AlKhalili, Brian Greene, Sean Carrol, etc, etc. but Pror. Filippenko gave me some answers here and validated my own theories regarding the Fermi Paradox, expansion of space, infinite universe and many other topics. Hats off. And Thanks from Pakistan.
This is the best interview of this channel so far.. Alex Filipenko is the most underrated super intelligent down to earth scientist. Thank you Lex for hosting him.. it was a pleasure listening to both of you!
Alex Filippenko is an amazing guy with a great outlook on life! So smart, too! The perfect interview by my favorite podcaster. For me, the meaning of life is to preserve that greatest story ever told (and which is still being written). We are the storytellers. Great stuff, Lex!
Alex. Your like the ice cream of Astro physicist! You were my favorite on The Universe show. I'm listening while you talk and I can hear your smile in every word. ❤ Your great!!

My family watched in awe as a flying saucer flew beside our car only 50 feet away in California around 25 years ago and even after all this time it still feels so mysterious and magical to me. The way you feel about people not being interested in this phenomena and finding it depressing how everyone dismisses these experiences so fast is how I've felt my whole life. I stopped telling people about it only a few years after as a kid because no one even remotely believed us and when I told them excitedly about this experience, I could see their eyes glaze over every time then change the subject. Its refreshing to see your passion about it and the same yearning for people to wake up a little and be curious.
Just by making that comment and looking at your picture and actually looking normal, not crazy has made me lean a few points into a likely probability that there stories are true. It's is really the scammers with blurry photos or attention seeking strange acting people that kill serious leanings in believing. The fact you didn't give this elaborated story, just a simple statement, makes me lean a little more into some of these events may be true, especially after Lex interviewed that pilot. It makes sense that more people on the west coast see these things considering how any life from the stars would likely live or base in the most remote areas in the planet in the pacific ocean. Places where there are still areas no human has ever crossed for hundreds of miles. That is where I would look after investigating the most less traveled areas. Only God, if he's real, knows what other amazing things we would find in the deep.
@@slingeroftruth Yes!! Thanks 👏 I agree it's hard when there ARE a lot of crazies out there, so when there is a true sighting it's easy to get grouped with them. I've found a lot of people who have listened to our story automatically assume we are exaggerating it's distance to us or size, so I'm currently trying to animate the experience in blender. Should be done pretty soon, hoping I can just link my friends to it when I tell the story.
Wow, he is just so so passionate and a great communicator. Thank you so much, your conversations are so sincere and well meaning. Your platform is going to be successful....it is so good for everyone.

I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. I loved him in the show "the universe" he always loved explaining the topics with a massive smile on his face. My favourite presenter/host by a long shot
Brilliant interview, Lex really brings the best out of his guests and Alex has a profound ability to make complex ideas very simple. Probably my favourite interview after the Lee Cronin one, Sara Walker coming a very close third.
@@BlackCheezit Think the commenter meant he is like a kid that was told to not grow up, and stay a kid forever... because of his excitement and enthusiasm.
Its likely because these mainstream "party-line" cosmologists refuse to admit we live in an ELECTRIC universe, a PLASMA cosmology. Academics like Alex cannot see the forest for all the trees in it. Plasma cosmologists and electric universe theorists already have a logical and rational hypothesis for the mainstream academia's "dark energy" and "dark matter" fudges... but folks likeAlex won't listen to any of it. The mainstream will never give up their perch that has been constructed atop their faulty foundation.
One of my favorite interviews of yours Lex. You’re both such beautiful humans. The Human race is lucky to have you guys. I hope you bring Alex back again, not sure what else you could talk about, but you always surprise me with you’re questions and introspection. Thank you.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate that you are both intelligent, interesting, likable people, very much. I love the podcasts, I binge on them and learn so much. Love you Lex!
There are creatures living within our bodies that function in a way of conscious action, but do those microscopic biological entities realize the World outside the Human body!? Or Finding Nemo, does he realize there are layers to the atmosphere that protect us from the elements of outer space!? How would Nemo react to this dimensional education, especially while living his entire life in the grand oceans of this World!? We are still so young in our understanding of what's truly going on in this reality!
Oh yes! Even the cells of the body are conscious and communicate with each other. Our immune system's white blood cells communicate, work as a team, recognize and remember dangerous invaders. I think one of the problems of science is that they consider Energy as an inert substance when in fact Energy is alive and conscious. This fact answers so many questions. The old adage "God is Everything and Everywhere" begins to ring true. It describes God's physical Body. It explains how He CAN be Omnipotent and Omnicient, and Immortal ... because Energy can't be created or destroyed. Science actually does prove the existance of God except it jealously works against it.
More scientists is my only recommendation. And thank you Alex Filippenko, great episode. Much love to creativity and the great unknown, never be afraid to ask questions and explore our universe.
.ncredible conversation. listening to 2 people discuss subjects I love, even if I only understand a small amount of the content, is the thing that makes my day. Thanks Lex and Alex for sharing your time with me. Beautfitul

Question... Why couldn't the acceleration of the universe's expansion not just be caused by regular matter far away from the center of the big bang that is just too far away to be observed?
I recently found this podcast and i am loving every single episode of it that i have listened to so far (10+), absolutely astonishing discussions and talks! Bravo!

The Universe can then "better understand itself" through the questioning of that sentient life looking back at Itself.
haven’t seen this guy since i watch the science channel in like 2008😂 i’m an adult now and it’s crazy that dude hasn’t changed at all

I was thinking the same thing! I guess that when you love what you do (as he _clearly_ does), it keeps you young!
Just took Alex's midterm today! He's a great professor and has a contagious curiosity for the universe. Awesome to see him speak with Lex

I believe you! 👍💕
@@tanakeilidh384 ah thanks 🙌

Alex Filippenko and Brian Greene are two of the easiest, most well-spoken astrophysicists to listen to. Excellent podcast.
I thought brian greene was a theoretical physicist.
Facts💯
