The worst part about this movie is what went on behind the scenes. The co-director, Stephanie Ma Stine, really wanted to put as much heart and emotion into the film as much as the first two KFP movies. But instead, the yes-man main director kept conceding to the studio's demands to make it more comedy focused, and Ma Stine was mistreated and called a "nobody" by the crew.
I just realized that the Chameleon was never really given a name. Imagine how unimportant or throw-away the main antagonist has to be to not even be given a name.
Yeah, there's tons of smaller animal characters who we see are full blown masters (even as jokes). Its the kind of backstory you'd only do if it was like, realistic humans. But you could have even made chameleon actually sickly and it'd work fine.
I get the sense it is like "she is small, for a chameleon". Imagine a child tiger was born with very thin, frail and weak legs and was told he could not practice Kung Fu because of it. You can't use "Flamingos have thin, frail and weak legs and Master Flamingo is a great kung fu guy" as an argument to validate the child tiger.
@@CastorGuerreiroYeah but she’s not restricted to chameleon kung fu, it’s just lazy. Why take it out on everyone if it was only chameleons who rejected her? Geez, you’re right. It’s more painful when you realize Infinite and Chameleon have BS reasons for being villains… Infinite - got defeated by Shadow, effectively by a simple roundhouse kick, and Shadow didn’t even call him weak Chameleon - I am smol (so is Mantis)
I remember seeing someone say Tigress or Tai Lung should have been the next dragon warrior and I couldn’t agree with that more (Tigress having worked for it her whole life along with being very close to Po, and Tai Lung could have received an actual redemption with being the next dragon warrior at the end)
I desperately wanted to see Tai Lung redeem himself and finally become worthy of being the Dragon Warrior, but only once he had let go of trying to be the dragon warrior and learned the true meaning of it.
My sister wanted Tigress to be the next Dragon Warrior and was disappointed to not even see her until the end credits (unless you count that little animation of her in the beginning). I personally would have liked Tai Lung to get it so long as he truly redeemed himself and apologized to Shifu and the village for doing what he did. ...But instead, we got some character we just learned about getting it.
Personally I think tai lungs arc should remain him accepting he was never meant to be the dragon warrior(just much more fleshed out than it was in this movie) and finding peace with shifu, since like he said in 1 everything he ever did was to make Shifu proud. Tigress has more than earned the title and you could’ve even had Zhen take her place amongst the furious five
@@D3viant517 Tigress had the fighting skills to become a dragon warrior but she lacked the spirit and heart of one. Po didn't have the former but the latter was there. Learning how to fight can everyone but it's really difficult to become a good person. I could see in 3 movies that Po's personality rubbed off on Tigress so she became more empathetic, open to feelings. In KFP3 she even played with and adored that little panda girl. So, It'd have been more satisfying if she got the title. Agree, Tai Lung's redemption arc should have been accepting he wasn't meant to become a dragon warrior and make peace with Shifu before he goes back to the Spirit Realm.
@@piotrfijoek1095I think having tigress travel alongside Po would allow us to go more in depth with her character than ever before, and she could go through an arc where she opens up more and shows more compassion, sort of a continuation of her story in 2
Sucks that Po's dad is no longer the same guy who swung a giant hammer at Lord Shen's wolf minions with enough force to obliterate one of their eyeballs
The worst part is that KFP 4 and Megamind 2 could have genuinely been masterpieces if DreamWorks had gone about it properly. The greed of money corrupts.
Megamind 2 was honestly Peacock's fault. They're the ones who commissioned that second movie, both as a sequel _and_ a pilot movie for the spinoff show.
There was no way Megamind 2 was gonna be a masterpiece, it was a TV movie commissioned for a streaming service, so I don’t think it was gonna be called MM2 in the first place.
You wanna know something sad? The co-director wanted the 4th movie to be faithful to the 1st and 2nd movie and Jack Black himself stated that she brought actual dept and heart. Po would've had a vision of Shifu being kidnapped by The Chameleon, promoting Po to go on a quest to stop her. Despite his best efforts, she would've succeed. This would've raised the stakes, display The Chameleon as a real threat, and allow Shifu to be there at the end to say goodbye to Tai Lung. She also wanted Zhen's redemption to be more fleshed out, ensured it to have both dialogue and action, and for it to actually happen onscreen, much to the chagrin of the writers who just wanted her to swoop in out of nowhere to fight The Chameleon before quickly disappearing again. Meanwhile the main director wanted the movie to be more laughs and joke-y. He wanted Zhen and Chameleon to have ZERO backstory whatsoever, and by the time the crew convinced him that, you know, giving the main villain a backstory is kinda of important, they were too late to do anything more than add in those few lines. Many crew members came up with ideas for Zhen's backstory, but they were all discarded. The film was made so short because they believed children couldn't watch a longer film, and also because they'd get more money. Guess which of these two guys they decided to give full creative freedom.
@@UltimateInkling I think what pisses me off the most is that they literally had no buildup for Zhen, she didn't even have a special reason to be the dragon warrior, Po picked her just because, meanwhile Tai Lung is a much better option, it would have been a great conclusion to his character if he was the dragon warrior, but he just ends up being a fodder in the movie. Also because Chameleon is literally a nobody, Tai Lung was related to Shifu's past, Shen was related to Po's past, Kai was related to Oogway's past, who the fuck even is The Chameleon?
Yeah, but she also wanted it to be mixed live action, so na. Also, she was fighting for the Furious Five until she realised how much it would actually cost to get them
Shifu raised a child & trained the furious 5 for decades. Not retired. Oogway was a master to Shifu and many others for god knows how long before he "retired." And Po's forced to retire now in his prime with less experience than any of the other masters, AND give up the title Oogway specifically created for him to some rando. seriously, WHY?!? It's makes zero sense.
@@genjis5155 Agreed. I'd say he regressed as a character. In KFP2 and 3 he was pretty chill with Po's anticts, almost never got angry or irritated. He just groaned at most. And here? Jesus. Plus, he did the same mistake by organizing the whole competition to find a dragon warrior, forcing the change. He should have known, that the right person would have appeared eventually.
Tai Lung: My father gave me false hope and promised a title that was never mine to claim. Shen: My future was decided for me, and I set out to change it. I failed. Kai: My friend who was a brother to me betrayed me and let my memory die. Chameleon:...........IM SHMALL!
Kai wasn't betrayed but lost his "path" to envy and desire aka self-imposed expectations. The themes of the first 3 movies are self-imposed and external expectations. Tai Lung completely identified with the external expectations to the point of blind rage Shen completely identified with his inner expectations and demands for self-assurance Kai well... I've said it already up there but most importantly...He's a buffer character and he works ok for the 3rd movie unlike The Chameleon in the 4th

That F5 movie and pushing KFP5 with a different director who understands the franchise would have fixed the damage KFP4 did.

The length of the movie is what it is because "children dumb", they thought children couldn't watch a longer movie. Shen and kai were added very very last minute. This movie could have been so good if the director wasnt an idiot and butchered it. I want a kung-fu panda 5 movie that just retcons 4 out of existence and is an actual good movie
With The Wild Robot being the studio’s last fully in-house production from the increasing layoffs, I genuinely fear for the future of Dreamworks not being able to bounce back from slumps in quality.
The fact that they didn’t bring back the furious 5 just because of budgetary reasons pisses me off. It really goes to show that this movie was not about any passion or anything, but just to make money.
Hear me out someone, this movie could've used Po’s stagnation sort of to its benefit. The Chameleon could've been a reflection of Po from the first movie, filled with self-loathing and her shapeshifting powers could've been a reflection of not being able to accept who she is. Po’s journey of becoming a spiritual leader could be figuring out how to impart that same wisdom he learned when he finally opened the dragon scroll, accepting and believing in himself. This concept feels so obvious and entertaining idk how they missed this.

@Anoyingmagpie777 Furious Five is an integral part of the KPF franchise and Po is the character. They support him, balance his quirkiness, and present awesome fight choreography. The bandits' raid on the musician's village showed that well. The absence of them was very noticeable.

There was a 500 year difference between Po and the previous dragon warrior, so the dragon warrior title isn't something that you pass on to someone you just met, as from what we know, Oogway has been alive for around 1000 years so he probably chose the dragon warrior before po too.

Shrek in the 4th just forgot and didn't think through what he had and what he didn't have back then. It's very human when you think about it. The 4th doesn't ruin Shrek however as he quickly learns and values what he still got in the end.
Jack's right that Po's arc has been complacency and then being forced to change, but it's annoying because that's not who he was in the first movie. Po was anything but okay with how things were. He wanted to change for the better. He was willing to put in the work around people who hated him if it meant that he might become someone he was proud to be. Now that he's basically become that person, it seems like his development has plateaued

I’m currently reading the fan fiction rewrite of Kung Fu Panda 4 but actually has the Furious 5 in there in large role while Tai Lung given more to do. Despite being still ongoing, it looks way more interesting and better than the actual movie itself.
Apparently kfp4 had the potential to be as good as spiderverse and last wish. The movie was supposed to be longer so they could develop the chamelion and zhen, the plot would center around shifu being kidnapped by the chamelion, which would give him an interaction with tai lung. The furious 5 would also help po and zhen get shifu back, but get defeated and drained of their power, heightening the stakes while also giving zhen an opportunity to prove herself and defeat zhen. The movie couldve been great but the reason the director cut these ideas, the co-director and jack black's ideas, was because he thought the kids wouldn't have the attention span for a good movie, and didnt want to pay the furious 5's voice actors. Kung fu panda 4 couldve been amazing tbh but ill just pretend that the co-directors version is the one that made the final cut
Watching these movies slip between the fingers of creative people actually breaks my soul. It feels as if all the magic and heart is just. . . gone. It's gone. I can't get invested in any characters in movies like these because the writing flops so hard. There's no establishment, no motives (if there are, then they are terribly weak), and worst of all there's no passion. At least, it feels that way for a lot of movies I've seen recently.
Yeah that grey fox person isn’t even a kung fu panda character… it looks like a Zootopia character….. she definitely don’t belong here…. They should’ve had tigress instead
None of the new characters do tbh. They look too human like and that they were going for asthedics over what would actually look good for the universe imo.

I have made a transcript, it is 48 questions, 8200 words long." The live action-animation hybrid is true, the director had almost all of the control of the movie, the writers told the codirector something along the lines of "you're wrong and you don't know what you want" when she criticized the story, revealed that the tv shows are *not* canon, and lots of other things. You should all read the transcript. I want to add that my original comment got deleted two times already, so I didn't disclose what website the interview is from or the name of the poster who posted the interview in case those were the problems.
@@creativenametxt2960 They wanted it to be a live action hybrid, and Zhen and Chameleon (originally called the Collector) were humans. There was also going to be a subplot where Po was built a box to do a Trojan Horse trick, but then he'd have gotten stuck in it for a huge chunk of the movie.
The co-director had plans to make this movie serious and make Shifu get kidnapped by the chameleon and have Zhen and chameleons backstories be more fleshed out, as well as a Tai Lung reunion with Shifu, but no, that was too much information for kids to handle, because Kung Fu Panda is a kids franchise, and it needs short runtime, unfunny comedy, and Subway surfers and family guy clips beside the main movie to make kids watch it.
15:25 not exactly used AI in the way you might think. They looked at AI images and saw the uncanny flaws and used them as inspiration for the transformations.
The main thing I liked about this movie is that they finally addressed that Shifu is a red panda. And the dads were cute together but didn't have to be blatantly gay and shoved down our throats as such. Like, it's fine if people wanna ship them, but they don't _have_ to. Platonic dads can be a thing in family situations like Po's. Lol. Also the Chameleon was a good villain BUT THEY DID MY BOI LORD SHEN DIRTY.
Ngl, I think the movie was alright, but some scenes were clearly rushed and wasn’t as enjoyable as the other ones. Also, the chameleon sucks as a villain. She said “oh it’s bc I’m short, blah blah blah” when, the tiny triplet criminals exist
I will say this Zhen is a fun addition to the Franchise. She’s pretty much the next gen female lead trope done right. She’s fun, simple yet interesting and most importantly skilled but not invincible. My only critique is I think Zhen should’ve gotten more battle damage from her fight with the chameleon. Don’t get me wrong the fight is a quick one sided curbstomp but I remember in the first few movies where the characters really get put through the ringer and I think they should’ve done the same like Zhen tried to defeat her old master as best as she could getting the tar kicked out of her until she has the best opening to use the technique Po taught her. But yea easily the stand out things in this movie for me are The fights (which are very fun and very inventive like they used to be) and the fact that this Movie really highlighted the fact that Po isn’t an Idiot he’s just naive. Like he comes up with very creative solutions to a lot of this films problems.
I remember people theorising that Tai Lung would be the next dragon warrior as they showed him coming back, and I knew they were gonna go the predictable route and make the new annoying character the new dragon warrior
I'm going to be honest, I haven't heard the furious 5 voice in the Panda sequels so at this point that I feel like if the only way to get more of them I don't care if they need to get people to make impressions.

Geez, you’re right. It’s more painful when you realize Infinite and Chameleon have BS reasons for being villains…
Infinite - got defeated by Shadow, effectively by a simple roundhouse kick, and Shadow didn’t even call him weak
Chameleon - I am smol (so is Mantis)
No wonder I felt the same disappointment from forces when I watched this film

The worst part is that KFP 4 and Megamind 2 could have genuinely been masterpieces if DreamWorks had gone about it properly. The greed of money corrupts.

I wouldn’t put Kung Fu Panda 4 and Megamind 2 on the same level, At least 4 kinda tried but yeah I agree with you otherwise
They should've done what the incredibles 2 did
You wanna know something sad?

I want to add that my original comment got deleted two times already, so I didn't disclose what website the interview is from or the name of the poster who posted the interview in case those were the problems.
Ooof. So much potential to make a 4th Kung Fu Panda work, and somehow THIS is what we got.
I'm scared for future Dreamworks movies and shows
I find it hilarious that they couldn't afford voice actors but have the cheap alternative being Akwafina.
Knowing some of the crazy shit they originally pitched, it's honestly a miracle this movie is even remotely watchable.
elaborate pls
Your soo dramatic
@@superfanmusicmaker”The Collector”?? Chameleon would’ve been copyright sued by Kai 💀
A chicken, a snake and a freaking mantis can learn kung-fu but a chameleon is considered too small to learn?
Is it just me or is this reaction super analytical compared to most Spilling The Milk videos? I love it personally.
Much more normal than their horny lines. 😂
"being the dragon warrior is all I know, it's who I am"
Me: are they watching Kung Fu panda 3?
Guys, Tigress should have been the next dragon warrior
I wanted that too tbh 😭 I’m just the kid in the corner writing cute fanfics about how kfp4 could’ve been. DONT JUDGE ME👹
15:25 not exactly used AI in the way you might think. They looked at AI images and saw the uncanny flaws and used them as inspiration for the transformations.
This was just "Missed Potential The Movie."
She said “oh it’s bc I’m short, blah blah blah” when, the tiny triplet criminals exist
freeza: they just like me for real.
It makes no sense when a member of the furious five is a literal insect
It is dogshit, it just shits on its legacy.
13:58 Jack's reaction kills me every time
Because of the lack of Furious Five, they should probably view the content surrounding their backstories.
The only voice actor who returned to reprise one of the Furious Five was Seth Rogan/Mantis and all he did was grunt
I remember people theorising that Tai Lung would be the next dragon warrior as they showed him coming back, and I knew they were gonna go the predictable route and make the new annoying character the new dragon warrior
4:23 they actually made a roblox game based on the movie
I love that with every complaint there is always a compliment from you guys
I big factor to this movies failure is that the Director is the same as the Trolls movies
I wanna see these guys react to Transformers Prime. Goated series.
One of the ideas for this movie was some stupid live action humans crap. Yeah, they just said it. It was that Alvin and the chipmunks guy
Imagine if TaiLung found out the dragon warrior could give up being the dragon warrior and give the title to someone else
I'm going to be honest, I haven't heard the furious 5 voice in the Panda sequels so at this point that I feel like if the only way to get more of them I don't care if they need to get people to make impressions.
