The Super Mario Bros Movie from illumination animation and Nintendo is something special. The highest grossing animated film, starring the video game giant himself. Starring Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Anya Taylor Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan Michael Key as Toad and Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong. It is a weird animated film that is bad and terrible but we decided to watch it on Spilling The Milk since it is available for Digital purchase now

I unironically popped off when King Bob-Omb showed up. People called me insane leading up to the release for hoping he’d show up, which I didn’t even completely expect myself, but him showing up and even having “relevance” to the story really made the movie a 10/10.
Every minute of this movie I was the soyjack meme. Loved all the Nintendo and Mario Easter eggs/references in the movie.

Illumination at least proves to be having a decent art style, it's just their stories are lack luster or very stupid. The only acceptable film is Despicable Me as they actually tried there and it aged well, then they realized they don't have to try to make a profit
Fun fact a luigi's mansion subplot was originally planned in the movie's early concept art it showed luigi standing outside a mansion with two boos but it was cut for unknown reasons, my guess is that nintendo & illumination are keeping that concept art to use for a luigi's mansion movie, charlie day ( who voiced luigi in the movie ) said he'd love to do it & even chris pratt brought it up too

Actually it was Nintendo who wanted the licensed songs in the movie, not Illumination. They felt that there were enough video game themed songs in the movie and wanted some real life songs to help balance that out.

The difference between peach and the normal "female empowerment" character is that she doesn't demean Mario and there is an explanation of why she is so good at the training course
It also helps that Princess Peach's more proactive approach isn't as unusual as people believe. Despite being the damsel in distress of video games (whose reputation stems from the main platforming games where the plots were barebones anyway, and a few RPG games), she's a viable participant/heroine in most other Mario games more often than not. She's even playable in a number of platformers and RPGs, as well as obviously the Super Smash Bros franchise. She even flips the norm by having Peach save the Mario Bros. all by herself in Super Princess Peach, and she also takes an amazing degree of badassery in Super Mario Adventures.
Agreed, and plus the movie wasn’t jerking itself off the entire time for having Peach actually be a badass.

The weirdest part about Cranky Kong is that the actor (Fred Armisen) just doesn’t sound like that, so he purposely made the voice like that
Ngl, his Cranky voice is a huge guilty pleasure. I know it’s not the ideal voice you’d expect out of Cranky Kong, but I honestly found his voice to be funny in a good way and I found Cranky to be an enjoyable character in the movie.
I think he is purposely going for a bernie voice. I honestly kinda like it. I was expecting him to sound older but it works well enough

In Super Mario 3D World when playing multiplayer if you grab a star and touch another player while in rainbow mode they get the effects of the star too, that is likely what they did here.

Nah, me and my buds were hollering at King Bob-Omb and King Boo. I popped off when Ice Peach & this movie is such a fun time for Mario fans through & through.

Looking into the RT critic reviews, i came to the conclusion that most of you point out the most delusional reviews because most of them never said the movie was bad, it just had issues.

That was something people checked for when Smash 4 first came out, because... of course they did. The screenshot in the video looks like a modded version of either Smash 4 or Ultimate.

11:40 Not so fun fact, if you check out the soundtrack for the movie there's a track called "Drivin' Me Bananas" which was supposed to be used for this scene and is a way better fit for the film than "Take On Me".
Another not-so-fun fact: The composer of the DK Rap song, Grant Kirkhope, wasn't even credited in the movie whatsoever.
@@HankJWimbleton-v1m I have no idea why they would simply attribute the DK rap to "Nintendo" it feels like it might be legal thing or a Nintendo thing, since they used and changed the track without consulting him. Especially since they didn't add the credit after the backlash, but it ultimately comes across as simply disrespectful to one of the greatest video game composers of all time. A composer who additionally has a insane amount of respect for the Mario compositions and was blown away when he was called on to do arrangements for Mario + Rabbids. Grant is genuinely such a good guy too.
Though to Illumination's credit. They did give credit to the individual musicians who performed their original score which is not the norm in Hollywood. Plus the composer who reworked all of Nintendo's tracks clearly had more respect for the video games' original score than any video game movie prior.

In my opinion, they failed at adapting the charming and fun nature of the Mario games and replaced it with okay-to-mediocre and a mini-van load of Easter eggs, besides that, the story and characters (most) are so boring and one-note versions of the ones in the game. What a soulless, barebones baby movie. But hey, if you enjoyed it, good on you mate.

Mario being sent to another world through the pipes of New York means that the Mario movie is an isekai.
It wasn't even new to the movie either. The whole thing about Mario and Luigi being from New York City before moving to the Mushroom Kingdom was the de facto canon backstory for the first decade of Mario's existence. Also, what's up Himiko Toga from My Hero Academia?

I know that this film has brought out some mixed responses from a few people. But the movie gave me the biggest smile on my face when I watched it for the first time. And I couldn’t stop smiling. And I think that’s a good sign!
It's nice that they used the song from the Captain Lou Mario show. Best part of the film.

Luigi's Mansion, Donkey Kong Country, throw in Wario for Wario Land, put in Rosalina and we'd have Mario Galaxy.
