- I hike into a new spot I've never fished before. I can't catch as much variety of fish as I wanted too but there's heaps of western blue groper and I manage a new PB at 108cm
The big one was caught using rock crabs for bait
This is the gear I was using:
- CTS GT Fight rod pe6-8 9ft by JC customs
-Shimano Stella 20000
-80LB Tasline, 170 or 200LB Varivas leader
WARNING Rock fishing is dangerous.
Don't try to replicate this kind of roped in fishing
If your the person that placed that rock on the log let me know. You never know it’s a small world! and I doubt it washed itself there.
If the like the video give my channel a subscribe. Cheers
Какие красивые рыбы....и вкусные наверное
Could you tell me what that big ring with the large hooks on it to pull the fish up the cliff is called. And where can a person buy one.
@@lisah6451 it's called a cliff gaff.
It's been too rough for too long where I'm at so I'm living through your vids. Thanks loads.
That gaff is genius!
When you are with your buddy at the very least there would be someone who could tell your family what happened if you disappeared. Absolutely love your videos!
Watched every single video you posted and i love them. I am a big fan of you and your strategies. You inspired me to start a fishing channel by my own. Thank you 😍😍
South central Montana giving you a shout out, your adventures blow me away. I’d kill for the opportunity to catch fish like you and your buds do. Hang in.
wow!
great idea with the safety harness!
also, ive never seen that gaff before and never seen a huge piece of crab used like that for bait!
awesome!!!
Gido you must go through A-LOT OF SOCKS!!! Lol lol 😆 This video like all the other ones I watch, will get put FACEBOOK!!! I do all I can to drive traffic to your site. You deserve at least, at least

Such a beautiful fish!
Was going to say before you filleted it...enjoy the walk back!.😂
Very scenic, interesting landing technique! I fish off rock too sometimes! I enjoy and learn..thanx..keep up the hard work! Stay safe cheers happy friday from northern Ontario!
I really enjoy relaxing with a coffee and watching more of your fishing adventures 👍👍👍
You take fishing from the rocks to the next level lol. Well done. Cheers 🇦🇺
That grouper has balls! what a brave fish!
haha, thats its swim bladder
That's the most unusual fishing video I've ever seen. The big blue fish looked amazing. I was slightly tense watching it though, and concerned for your safety. Bare feet, on high rocks, and catching huge fish. Looked a bit dangerous, but a video that's totally unique.
I’m tied in because it was wet and slippery. It would be extremely dangerous without a rope fishing such a high slippery ledge
The speed footage at the was epic. Just epic. We love it.
End- at the end lol
Well done, battling them grouper you made it look so easy lol
Insane groper, cool solo mission paid off well 👌 you made it look easy.
Two things I would not do , one jump out of a plane , two fish where you fish love your videos
Thanks Bob, personaly Id do both haha 👍
Excellent and very hard work. But risky too.
And yeah you got the priceless fish...
I just found this channel and I must say this guy is nuts! Wild and wonderful locations,
Hello, may I ask which stainless steel hook you used to buy, I want to buy one, I am now in California,
Wow, first time i seen blue grouper
Awesome fish! I'm on the Spencer Gulf, blue groper here are strictly off limits. I must admit to being a little jealous, I would love to try a fillet..... subscribed 👍🎣
They are pretty good eating, nice white flesh, the big ones can be a bit dry and chewy especially if you cook them too long but can be great eating if you cook them just right. The Nannygai or bight red fish you could catch from boats around there are my favourite eating thou👌🏼👌🏼
@@gidosfishingadventures I have to travel a couple of hours if I want to find Nannygai. My local fish that are most targeted would be King George Whiting and the big Red Snapper here in the Gulf, some people love fishing for Salmon as well. Sweet channel... I've got some catching up to do🐟
peh power!!! terbaik bro
Awesome, just awesome! I am envious beyond belief!
what a hard place to fish. good job. never seen a blue grouper before but live in tropics .
Nice video and nice fish! My only negative feedback would be to turn the audio down on your time lapse. Chur my bro!
Cheers for the feedback, I agree, I’ll remember that for next time 👍🏼
No way I would climb or descend on them rocks to fish but I enjoy your videos
Have you ever considered using a firearm like a .22 to dispatch fish at water level? Seems like that'd be much easier than trying to net or gaff them live from the top of a cliff. Great content. Subscribed...
We can’t use firearms in Australia like some other countries. I’d get in a lot of trouble even carrying a .22 around with me in national parks
That fishing looks great but walking around barefoot on those wet rocks in such an isolated location really doesn't look all that safe! I saw you slipping and sliding at one point and if you hurt yourself you're going to be in a world of problems and others are going to have to risk their own safety to help you. Take care out there.
I love watching your vedios all about fishing. Because we love fishing
Beautiful Groper, lovely eating, well done bud...
I need that thing to raise the fish , good job man
That's what I just said. I asked him what it was called and where to buy one
@@lisah6451 I don't know the name in English lol
But it is good for fishing from higher altitudes
@@AbdelBobdir thank you so much for replying to my comment. I heard someone call it a cliff gaff so I looked that up and found it.
We salmon and steelhead fish off of a 40 foot cliff so that would come in so handy. I'm going to order one and see how good it works for them.
@@lisah6451 This is good. I wish you good luck
whats that thing in bottom if the fish the get out when you catch them ?
Swim bladder
Fur Coat, that's one HUGE grouper. Well done Gido.
Great stuff mate love it and subscribed. Would the big one have survived release?
Nah it’s swim bladder was out and heaps of scales missing so it wouldn’t of survived
Hi, I enjoy your fishing, I feel you live and have fun better than the king
Great video Mate!
Awesome. Big blue groper tacos. Nicely done.
Great effort bro , that was one hike
Tight lines
BEAUTIFUL FISHING
Gaffing it, dragging it and bashing around on the rocks and chucking it back so you can keep fishing is just wrong. You removed most of its protective slime and gave it nice injuries and wounds for infection. Great job.
That s fantastic ! is there any video in witch you tell us haw do you cook it ? Thank you
Awesome video. Have you tried any of the grouper from Florida? Is the blue grouper similar if you have? We fish off big ass rock jetty here but nothing like y'all! Love it man keep it up
Also, we use what we call here a drop net so we can release our fish that were never allowed to keep and healthy. It's a circle about a meter wide with a drop net woven around it and a long add rope. Mainly use it for bridge fishing but it might be better than your gaff
yes ive seen them, that would be great but we have lots of barnacles on the rocks here so a net gets stuck easily. I have a net on a long pole but its hard to use from high up
love your vis!can you tell what kind of gaff is that
Nice great catch Gido 👍👍👍👍🐟🐟🎣🎣
Thanks Joseph
Wow that’s a big boy!!!! More vids pls 👍
I love the fishing part, you’re a cool guy. But, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you release a fish. Anyway, it’s none of my business what you do and in fairness you seem to get good eating out of them 👌
Fair enough, I have released a lot of fish which is shown on some other videos but I defiantly keep my fair share too
Nice Video Great fishing
poor fish. just saw a movie that the blue groper is such a gentle fish. i saw a movie about it called “blueback”
Hey man you should do a video on tackle, Let us known what you use and why?
Yeh good idea. I get asked what gear etc I use regularly so I’ll do a video soon 👍🏼
Hello cool your video What is the name of the grapple used to hang the fish on the video thank you in advance
how deep is the water full cast? Great videos, cheers
About 15m deep
@@gidosfishingadventures Unreal to think those cliffs just keep going straight down below the water line. What an amazing world we live in.
Big blue love red crabs, trophy fish well done by yourself 👍
Nice work. Great fish.
Bloody legend mate
Great video, well done ! A round of applause from France. Are u in Australia ?
Thanks Nicolas, Yes I live in Australia
Is it me only or what...your thumbnail looks like the grouper has balls😬
1st time to See blue grouper nice
Well done, solo too.
Cheers Glenn
Are you guys left handed, or is that Ozzie style?
I should wind with the other hand but I’m used to this style
@@gidosfishingadventures whatevers comfortable. I saw more down unders set up the same way. It just made me curious. Your vids are the best.
What gear do you use for all your rock/cliff fishing ??
gido apart from your beautiful adventures, I am so surprise to see you walking nearly bare foot on Australian outwild. mate, isn't it dangerous?
DECENT??!! Are you fricken kidding me? Nice Job!
Jogjakarta rock fishing also dangerous..the stone is really sharp.. Should be extra careful..
Nice fish mate. Deserve every one.
Do you fillet that fish alive or did you kill it first?
awesome!..its a huge groper fish..good job men!
So is that a set of fish balls?
Are all groper that color or just your local area?
The males are blue and females green
that's a big fish,thanks for sharing,new friend from new york.christmas gift for you.11k+1
Whoahhhh.. awesome fish and a very nice meal. Don't throw that head and bony parts, it's very good for fish soup.
It was a long walk, to carry the head and bony parts out would have been extremely heavy and hard work
@@gidosfishingadventures... Well then, i guess next time be prepared to cook it right there.
🔥🔥🔥
Mate aren't they an endangered/ protected species?? Why did you not release it?? 😡
because they arnt protected or endangered, also I consider it bad practice to throw a dead or dying fish back
It's Illegal to spear them! So why is fishing 🎣 for them any different??
@@timothyrandall7730 when you see one under water they almost invite you to spear them as they dont take off as other fish do
so they were heavily targeted in the past the rule on spearing has been in for a while now there numbers are coming back quite strongly
in nsw at least you can only catch 2 a day by line only
Did you release the first gaffed fish? If so how did you do it?
Gravity
Wow~ nice fish.
Well done.
So huge
oh~ rock fishing !! i like it !! good size!! so big!
Two solid fish, solid work mate!
Cheers Mitch
Great video 👍🏼
Luar biasa,hati2 kawan,salam dari Indonesia
I thought blue gropers are illegal to fish and protected by government or fisheries? Last time at Bondi beach one guy spear fished a friendly blue groper and it angered ALL beach goers. It was in the News. And beach goers were warning him he couldn't fish that species out. He got arrested by police few moments later.
Just wondering is this one a different species of blue groper which you can eat? Or is this another species you're not supposed to fish??
Very similar species, that would be the eastern blue Groper which is protected in some places especially the area you mentioned
This is the western blue Groper. You are allowed keep them here
Bag limit is one per person
@@gidosfishingadventures ahhh ok
I understand
Mate they are all Blue Gropers , whether it's the East Coast or West Coast and they WILL end up on the endangered species list if people like you keep taking them out of their Natural habitat! .looks to me like your just on an Ego- trip enjoying/ gloating over the death of these Beautiful Creatures without giving a flying Fk about their right to exist! 😡
That swim bladder tho🧠😂
Look like a ballsack on the fish lnfaooo
wow! where did you buy that gaff?
Thnx
Awesome man
these fish a type of wrasse?
Where is this spot, and which country?
Great vid gido arm to arm combat?🐳🐳🦀🦀🦀👍👍
Merci pour la vidéo. C'est quel pays
Suis Personne albanie
Too much PT just getting there. What if you wanted to keep a fish? Drag it back up with you?
Did u watch the whole video? I filleted the fish before I carry it out
Looks like the Blue Plate Special 🐟 👀
Wow
Excellent job. 😍👌❤
Mind telling me the spot? I’m in Albany for 2 days
Sorry no can do. Conditions look decent tomorrow. If your after groper go fish somewhere fairly remote and use rock crabs as bait. Stay safe 👍🏼
Hey mate it's Vinnie here. I go fishing at Quobba and found cliff gafs difficult and we loose heaps of Mackie at the gaf.
I designed one that I want someone to test for me. It will pull the claws in as you lift.
If you like it you can have it but I want to get this design on the market.
I'm confident you will pull up more fish on the first half drop.
Straight down and straight up!
Hey Vinnie do you want send me a msg on my facebook facebook.com/gidoslandbasedfishing/ and maybe a photo. Cheers
Gotta love it, picture of the fish - finger looks almost as big as his face, thats how you know its not realy big... stop doing that ppl, pls
Yes it’s not really a big fish it actually tiny 🤔
@@gidosfishingadventures all i want to say is that ppl hold fish to far away from their body.. it looks just unnatural. I dont know that kind of species you caught so i dont know if 20kg is actually big or small but you know those 20kg could look so much bigger/massive if we could actually compare it to your body which is not possible when you holdthe fish to far away from it
@@gidosfishingadventures and im not talking about thw footage only the picture your taking.
The picture is from the footage, it’s held out a bit but there’s no way I could straight arm it. It’s pretty much above my knees while I squat
@@gidosfishingadventures im a fisherman myself, freshwater tho. I know you couldnt straight arm it and i know well that almost every fisherman out there is trying to make catches look bigger, you know what i mean?
That is a fascinating gaff. Who is the manufacturer? Thanks
Its called a cliff gaff or flying gaff. They are quite common in Australia
what kind of gaff is that? man good work on landing those fish!
It’s called a cliff gaff. The hooks swing freely so they push out when it hits the fish and swing back in when you pull the rope
@@gidosfishingadventures right on!, thanks and greetings from California
where did you get the gaff... could come handy at tricky spots.
I bought it from a local tackle shop but if you search online for cliff gaffs you might find a seller that will post. Im not sure if youll find one at a shop in California? But you could always ask
