@@Alex30.08 Bro, check out Paul Anthony Romero. Also bro the devs of olden era are new devs, they are taking what's best from HOMM3 and HOMM5, it'll be good man.
@@Alex30.08 I replaced all the music with my own mp3's and all my friends took copies (So sue me RIAA). Playing Necropolis with Child in Time looping is a must have experience. ;)
Cautiously optimistic for this, but still a little worried at the Ubisoft involvement (even though they are supposedly only the publisher). First hint of Denuvo or Ubislop Connect requirement, then I'm out.
Ubisoft also owns the IP and can cancel the project at any time. They did that with HoMM 7. Limbic was fixing the game and was planning Inferno DLC but Ubisoft just cancelled further development and HoMM7 was left broken forever. They may do this again.
@Mythos131 We played a different game? AI was braindead, campaign still have lots of bugs, especially Dwarven DLC and balance was off. Magic was superior to Might, warcries were useless, Summon Elemental was OP etc. Also optimization was terrible and multiplayer was broken thanks to desync issues.
@inquerion8867 Except for the MP they fixed all those issues. Limbic worked on stabilizing the game before they were shut down. I didn't experience any bugs.
I love the world map art style and the town screens. I'm not 100% sold on the unit sprites, but i'll get used to them after a while. Hope it's good. I still play HoMM3 via VCMI every day
This is actually a spinoff of the main series just called Might and Magic which is a first person dungeon crawler rpg which the first entry in the series and was first released in 1986.
I do enjoy Iratus very much but I don't expect anything good from Ubi, so if they manage to surprise me it can only be in a positive way 😁 Thanks for the video 🙂
For me 5th heroes were the last good ones, and it came out a looong ago, I overall like what is presented so far, and would really crave for good fun game, but as many said, cautious optimism.
I am really digging the artstyle, they nailed the overland map. This is the most hopeful I've been for a return to form for this franchise in a long time!
Horn of the Abyss stream, when? ;) I'm looking cautiously optimistic about & looking forward to HOMM: Olden Era- the art style looks great, hopefully the music is top notch again, but I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far. Thanks for sharing with us!
I hope not all battlemaps are standard size or empty like that. Also I would prefer some capturable non-mine adventure map buildings (such as light house from previous games). This could give "regional" bonuses (like a look out tower but in that area). Also developers should please consider coupled neutral creature templates such as "golems+mages" "Druids+Unicorns" "archers+pikeman" which would spice neutral combat a lot. Lastly don't forget to fix mobility spells/skills and in the last installations experience for the loosing side was a very nice touch; extended the stakes and the duration of PvP combats.
Since it's Jadame I suppose they pretend Ubi's version never happened. I hope it doesn't mean completely abandoning the idea of factions having unique mechanics and lore. It's not like there are still some Might & Magic RPG getting released which is why the 4 first HoMM had basically extremely limited lore in-game and very random factions.
I loved playing sorceress in homm2. I choose Barbarian Hero with Expert Archer and wiped my enemies before they could even move with druids and grand elves. And rushed to get Phoenix week 2 or 3.
Little bit sad about I cant play with the Early acces on Xmas. I feel too long to w8 for Q2 2025. I didn't remember when they started to promote the game but its feels to long.
I’ll assume I’m not the only one, but was hoping for a return to the good old H3 magic system with the 4 elements separated instead of this Daylight/Nighshade thing that feels kind of forced. Why try to fix something that wasn’t broken? 🤨 I didn’t even like the magic system categorization in Heroes V (light, dark, destructive, summon, adventure), but it was OK I guess. Cramming every elemental spell into “destructive” felt like an oversimplification. It’s magic after all, it doesn’t necessarily need to be simplified. Heroes 6 and 7- although I didn’t really like 6, but played ~100 something hours of Heroes 7 to complete the main campaigns and the expansion on the hardest difficulty (the AI was irredeemably braindead though)- did it the best out of the later HoMM releases with the 4 elements air, water, fire and earth separated and havcing standalone categories for light, dark and primal. Too bad the spells themselves in Heroes 6 were basically treated as hero abilities, but as far as the categorization of magic went in Heroes 6 and 7 it was an improvement over Heroes 5. Still not sure about the devil/demon insectiod thing for the Hive faction entirely replacing Inferno. I don’t think it’ll be a fan favorite but maybe it turns out great. 😅 I’m glad the damn spider themeing from Heroes 6 and 7 has finally been removed from the Necropolis faction.
It's not a deal breaker as long as the gameplay is good, but I don't really like the art style/direction that they adopted. Especially the heroes, they look like league of legends characters...
Now that you mention it, I have to agree. The art style is a little off-putting, but I think it was intentional. They figure that if they used similar character designs to World of Warcraft and League of Legends, that it would potentially attract newcomers to the franchise.
@@jonathanj.3695 hardly. turn based strategy games died out for a reason. if this game doesn't hit the nostalgia factor there is no target audience, but even if it does the original player base is not that great in numbers. 25 years ago you didn't have to sell 10 million copies to be successful
Fog of war should be more dynamic anyway. It should contract a tile each turn if you don't have presence in an area. You were able to see the enemy castle all the time although you were miles away. Also puts incentive to capture enemy mines or use scouting more often. You would get used to it pretty quickly ,nothing major. Things have to change in "olden" (actually new) era :).
The problem is that Olden Era does not keep the original charm of H3 or H2. The graphics look too cartoonish and the world does not have the world map feel that the original games had. It looks and feels more like H4.
The map looks a bit cluttered and hard on the eye I think but I can see why they went for it, nostalgia purposes. The quicktime scenes in the battle maps are gone that were in vii I see. this would run on mobile too by the looks of it.
HoMM art was rarely pixel art, it was usually 3d renders at very low resolution like a lot of games at the time. This art captures the spirit of it (color palette, shading, etc) almost perfectly.
deeply immersive expierience xD that looks like mobile games for 10yo, faction castle design looks rubbish, i wont mention units, where each one is glowing with colours...that dragon on the dungeons castle is like: REMEMBER BLACK DRAGONS BRO?
I'm sorry, but I don't expect anything. I think relying on the pro scene is a big mistake because no Might and Magic or Heroes offshoot was balanced, these were some of the most power trip unbalanced games ever and that made them fun and special. I know these people kept the game alive, but in the end they a really small minority considering how many units the games sold, I have dozens of friends who play and adore Heroes III, but I don't know a single person playing anything more then solo or maybe hot seat. Second, we return to Enroth but are still cursed by Heroes 5-7 designs, why? Last, Ubisoft... I just expect some crap on their side.
Look at how good the contrast between map and interactive items is on the old heroes games that you're showing. Very accessible, art direction supports the UX. (Same goes for the battle) Now look at the new game, no contrast between background and interactive items, hard to process cognitively when playing, everything is overly complex, it's objectively bad. Hire better art directors, Ubisoft! Have UX designers challenge them and force them to change things. The art needs to be fixed.
Art direction is atrocious. Looks like Heroes 3 for WoW lovers. Aside from few homages to the Heroes 3 on the world map this game has no identity of its own.
The art style is terrible! And yes, this is not the most important thing in HoMM game, but it is essential! It is the same as the relationship - you chose your partner first with the eyes, and after that with the heart and mind. So if we keep this analogy - Olden Era might be great mechanically, but it looks like cheap mobile game with overdesigned cluttered models, oversized limbs, childish fairy tale castles and cute sugary units. What we want is just mythological and medieval units with solid dose of realism, not this disneyland gummy bears looks for little girls.
Your critique was only on two superficial aspects of the game. That's not what makes a heroes game good or not. I don't like the art style also but it's hardly what makes the good game
