    So there's always a debate going on somewhere whenever a player asks for advice on whether he should focus on critical damage or skill amp when choosing a new amulet, using buff potions, filling the slots of his weapons, and so on...
    Let me help you decide which is better for you!
    Enjoy!

    A few notes:
    1) This is NOT a damage calculator! The sole purpose of the video and the excel sheet is to help you decide if you should get amp or crit dmg in your next item, slot ,etc...
    2) Stop requesting access to Google drive! You can make a copy of it for yourself or download it, but I can't give access to anyone else for fear of them modifying the original file and ruining it for future viewers!
    3) The first scenario, (1000 damage, 0% amp, cd, 0 everything else) is absolutely not realistic, and impossible to achieve, and it is true that would mean having 1000 attack, but due to complications with the damage calculation formula, it would be very inaccurate to count attack too. That is why I use an imaginary "damage multiplier" stat, which multiplies 1 with the amp*nd or amp*cd values, and has nothing to do with attack or your final damage! Its only purpose is to show if amp or cd is better for you, and for that it has worked in every situation I've tried ingame (except for obviously huge resistances in special cases).
    4) Credits for the idea of using weighted average go to EdegarPereira, who brought that method to my attention in the comments of an earlier video.

    simple explanation CD is better in dungeon farming and in pvp amp is better because most of the player in pvp use rcr so you need to make sure that even without crit you deal high normal damage

    Thank you for making these kind of content, I've been playing cabal since 2007 but I stopped playing because I'm too young back then and it's too complicated for me. I started playing again and starting watching your videos so I could understand things in cabal, it's too complex. Your videos made it easier to understand it. Keep making informative videos.

  • @powerzx
    @powerzx 5 лет назад +15

    I have a more simple explanation.
    1%AMP=2%CD (at 50% critical rate).
    If player has less than 50% CR then AMP is better, if more then CD is better.
    This means that AMP is better for players with bad gear and CD is better for players with endgame gear (when they have a lot of CR and MCR).

    • @DisI3oss
      @DisI3oss 5 лет назад

      Yea but you cant go without amp either. Even end game gear your still looking at 3 slot amp and/or 2 amp and 1 max crit rate, you get a lot more crit dmg from Upgrades (like divine) vs amp. Supporting my conclusion that having 1:2 ratio of amp to crit dmg still holds.

    • @nameless5646

      For some reason, using the formula from the video amp seems to outclass CD by an even larger ratio. I'm not sure if i did anything wrong but i used my fairly standard equipment (7-8 amp armor parts; 7 amp/16 CD craft + 20 cd slots weapons and helmet;... this kind of stuff) and in my case (and even if i give myself 100 cd more; I'm close to 60 CR) 7 amp is better than 16 CD in every case... That's news to me since i was planning on replacing my 7 amp craft weapons with 16 cd craft weapons but the calculation tells me not to go this way.

    amp is very important for natural damage boost/penetration. it opens the doors to crits. crits do explosive damage so it is also seductive to chase high crit equipment. amp is very important still if not more for being the foundation

      Where do you pull in that maxCrate from? I'm at 58 and have +1 once I upgrade Orph amulet. So it's worth sacrificing 1 amp slot in gear for a maxCrate?
      Edit: I always keep forgetting you can have it from pet slots, but man is that expensive >.

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  5 лет назад +3

      I also vote for getting around 70% mcr, or if you're pvp oriented even more.
      @DenisK, I'd sacrifice an amp slot for 3% mcr anytime, even if I had a pet with 10% mcr it would definitely be worth it in my opinion as long as filling it with rate is an option.

    AMP SET is for Player to Player, because most of them have High Resist Critical Rate which makes your CD SET weaker.
    CD SET is for MOBS, because most of the mobs in cabal doesn't have a high Resist Critical Rate so that CD/CR can penetrate well.

    There is a simply math explaination for this . If two numbers are multiplier each other u need to decrease the range for higher results . Its like 3x3=9 > 4x2=8 > 5x1=6 but there is a critical rate too . All u need to do is if u have %50 critical rate you need to 100 amp 200 critical dmg for better dps . Final equation like this AMPx(C.RxC.DMG) so if you have %70 critical rate 70 amp equal with 100 critical damage but if you have %50 crit rate 70 amp equal to 140 crit damage . Simply just multiplier crit dmg option with ur crit rate and check result if its higher than amp option choose crit dmg if its lower choose the amp option ;)
    Example: if you wanna choose between 12 amp or 27 crit dmg siena braclet . U need to multiplier with ur crit rate if u have %40 crit rate choose amp if you have %50 crit rate definently choose crit dmg 27x0.5=13 > 12 amp . Thats why because max crit rate most important thing in cabal . Ahoy seaman

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  4 года назад

      I still believe weighted average (the formula I used) provides a much more realistic result, so I disagree with your statement of "AMPx(C.RxC.DMG)".

    • @NeriusLT
      @NeriusLT Год назад

      @@1minuteCABALguides both of you guys are right in my opinion! weighted average provides a realistic result indeed, but it compares maximum potential "damage multiplier" of a critical hit versus a non critical hit. But when calculating the maximum damage multiplier of a critical hit, there should be another weight factor of critical damage vs amp, because weight of amp and critical damage is different at different states of critical rate. For example, if i wanted to find out what to use in my helmet, amp or critical damage, and i used the formula (1+amp)x(1+cd) to calculate damage multiplier without considering critical rate, it would recommend me to put amp in, altho for what i know i have 100% rate, so actually critical damage would be the wise choice.

  • @EdegarPereira
    @EdegarPereira 5 лет назад +5

    I would like to clarify a common misconception of players: Amp (aka amplification) is a factor that directly interacts with the character's attack, in other words Amp mainly affects the non-critical portion of your damage (yellow numbers). The exact way this occurred in Cabal in the past was by multiplying the character's attack times the sum of the character's amp plus the skill amp, ie: [Attack] * [1 + ((Character Amp + Skill Amp) / 100 )] = your non-critical damage (disregarding the target's defenses, additional damage, and minumum damage). And since your critical damage is calculated using this value, your critical damage is also increased indirectly, just as it would be increased if you added more attack on the character. Since we have no clue that this logic changed after the Rising Force update so it is wrong for players to assume that "Amp is for both normal and critical damage", this is wrong as one is only a consequence of the other. It would be the same as saying that a defensive debuff serves both normal and critical damage, again wrong because the consequence of decreasing the target's defense is increased normal damage which in turn increased critical damage.

    Penetration is probably ignore defense, since sometimes on fb you can hit a wall with aoc and elemental enchant..but it happens only on low defense mobs. Elemental enchant won t increase your damage as it should and i am pretty sure it is because the mob defense is calculated as 0 or a mininal def value nobody knows. This doesnt happen in high dungeons. This can be easily replicated by using elemental enchant on buffalos in the first eca wave. If you have somewhat strong penetration stats elementap enchant will do NOTHING

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  4 года назад +2

      Been experimenting with that too, indeed. Was going to make a video after getting a siena's bracelet with the same stats but without penetration slot as 1 of my older bracelets, so I basically had a way to remove 50 penetration any time I wanted.
      It's definitely ignore defense, but from my experience it's not a ratio of 1:1. Indeed it seemed +50 pene gave almost the same amount of extra damage on some high-end mob as -100 def on the target. If I were to guess it's at around -90 def or so. What I'm wondering about is whether the results would be similar for other players too, who have different values. It seems flat to me, not percentage based.

    Heya! I have a question because I tested almost everything and now that I've seen your video I'm confused. Isn't critical in general supposed to be double the damage? So in your calculation at 1:37 doesn't the 0% CD has to be 2000 damage? Because that's the whole point of critical in general, double the damage, even if you have 0% CD.

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  4 года назад

      Ahoy! No indeed, if you make a lvl 1 char it starts with 20% critical damage, meaning 1.2 times the damage of normal hits. Now as far as I know that is also the lowest possible limit - in the early days I tried messing around with the debuff of that boss in AoS2 and managed to reach a negative critical damage value with her debuff, and the crits were still just a bit more powerful than normal attacks, which I guess means in damage calculation it's capped at minimum 1.2 times the damage.

    • @RhaduStyle

      Pretty sure pene doesn't work that way, as I've tried comparing the damage difference of pene potion and defense debuff ( equal amounts) and penetration's damage increase was much greater.
      Evasion also doesn't work that way, except maybe if your attacker has 0 accuracy (which is impossible even for a nipperlug).
      But the point is the same, penetration is OP and def rate/eva are the best defensive stats for survival (apart from HP steal but that's kind of more like offensive than defensive)!

    Hi Watchman, thank you for the video.
    However, I am confused about one detail.
    According to some sources, critical damage is applied AFTER defense and other mitigations have been substracted in the damage calculation.
    According to that information, the formula would look roughly like this:
    ((Attack * Amp) - (Defense + Dmg Reduction)) * Critical Dmg = Final Damage
    Do you know if this might be true? Because if so, that would make Amp significantly better than it is in your calculations.

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  4 года назад

      As far as I know it's only damage reduction that's applied after critical damage. That is why in the case of some events bosses, or the cave monster in AFI you may hit close to 1 with non-criticals, but thousands with criticals. But once again, since we don't know the defense value of anything in the game, nor how exactly it works, I didn't take that into calculations.
      Also I did not claim (attack * amp) works this way. It could be totally different.

      @@1minuteCABALguides Thanks for your answer. I only came back to Cabal very recently. The last time I played was when Transcender skills were first put into the game. And back in those days, we actually knew the exact dmg formula and were able to calculate the defense values of mobs accurately. I remember having spreadsheets and using them to optimize my equipment.
      I just wonder how much the dmg formula was exactly changed. Because in the old formula, critical dmg WAS applied after defense (there was no dmg redction back then) and I remember AMP being much better than CD for that reason.
      Oh well, I guess I'll just use a balanced mix of AMP and CD until someone figures out the new formula.

      Ahoy!
      I can recommend a few videos that I hope you will find useful:
      This video series is about what kind of gear and stats you should aim for during the game. It has 3 episodes, the 2nd will probably be most interesting for you but I linked the 1st in case you want to watch it anyway.
      ruclips.net/video/hMgYvZPPLGY/видео.html
      Me levelling up a new character, with some tips on EXP (though I admit the levels after 160-170 until 180 are the hardest probably)
      ruclips.net/video/Nmy9a1RMFC4/видео.html
      As for the alz farming part, unfortunately even most of the higher level/gear players have problems with that. At least in EU your only reliable sources of income are selling cores, craft materials and some dungeon-specific items. Problem is, you will have to farm a LOT! That means not just 2-3 runs a day, more like 20-30 to have even a realistic chance of getting anything good over a few months. I would recommend choosing some dungeon that has the above mentioned "specific" drops (like Prideus's bracelet pieces from extracting bracelets in AoS1, Siena's bracelet in AoS2, Killian's craft material in EoD2, etc...), and generally extracting most of the items you find for force core pieces and upgrade core pieces. I can guarantee it will take a long time though!
      The only alternative is whenever there is an event going on in the game. Collect&exchange type of events are usually the best for that, since you can farm the event items and sell them to players who like gambling and less so farming their own event stuff to exchange. Sometimes you can get 5-10 of those items in a single 10-15 minute dungeon run and sell them for over 1 million alz each, but those events are rare and usually don't last long (enough).
      So the only realistic tip I can give you is: be patient! Farm for small and steady income, and if any big drop comes your way, that's just gravy!
      Hope this helps :) If anything is unclear, feel free to ask right here.

  • @EdegarPereira
    @EdegarPereira 5 лет назад +1

    There are some points of the video with misleading information. Although the logic is correct between 1:08 and 1:19 what you indicated for "damage" should be considered as the character's attack as it is the one that will be "amplified" by the skill amp and the character amp.
    EDIT: I rushed, I would mention that you should include the critical rate in the calculation that started at 1:08 but realized that at 5:56 you included and arrived at results similar to mine. Still it is worth mentioning one more reason why the result was in favor of the amp potion, and this is because of the diminishing returns of CDI in the example of player A. In his example of choosing between the potions the result of player A may be contrary when taking into account the rest of the variables. Assuming the character has 2000 attack, 50% CR, 150% amp, 300% CDI, and the target has 1000 defense would look like this:
    Using 30% amp potion: 180% amp / 300% CDI
    (2000 * (1 + 1.8)) - 1000 = 4600 non-critical damage
    4600 * (1 + 3) = 18400 critical damage
    Weighted average: (4600 * 0.5) + (18400 * 0.5) = 11500 damage
    Using 50% CDI potion: 150% amp / 350% CDI
    (2000 * (1 + 1.5)) - 1000 = 4000 non-critical damage
    4000 * (1 + 3.5) = 18000 critical damage
    Weighted average: (4000 * 0.5) + (18000 * 0.5) = 11000 damage
    In this scenario the character's stats are unbalanced that the amp's potion has a better result on both non-critical and critical damage. And the reason for this is that the character's CDI is already so high that a "only" 50% increase is almost nothing and contributed only 12.5% increase in the end critical damage while the amp did 15%. If the character had 100% CDI as the basis, the results would be different, where the second scenario would cause greater critical damage than the first, as in this case it would cause a 25% increase in the final critical damage. And the decision on which situation is better would depend on the character's CR at the moment.

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  5 лет назад +1

      Are you certain about the target's defense being subtracted from the attack*amp value? It does sound logical, but in some cases, like event bosses, the cave dweller mob in AFI, etc... there were many occasions where a player would hit them close to 1 without critical, but actually deal decent damage with critical hits, which by your formula would mean they'd have to have thousands of % of critical damage for it to work.
      Of course it would be a possibility if let's say someone were to deal 500 damage with non-criticals, with the boss having 1000 damage reduction, so non-crits would end up with a hit close to 1 (+add dmg) and criticals would get over the damage reduction value, but I think I've seen too many cases that contradict the damage reduction part.
      That is why I ignored the defense and the attack parts and just came up with the demonstrative "damage multiplier" that is independent of all resistances and defense stats as well as other offensive stats, but also has the only purpose of helping one decide whether amp or cd is better for one's specific build.

    • @EdegarPereira
      @EdegarPereira 5 лет назад +1

      @@1minuteCABALguides That was the way it worked in the old days, but I never investigated how it worked in those particular cases (maybe something related to amp resistances?). There have always been particular cases like negative defense mobs and the strange Cabal rounding system (sometimes a value that was to be rounded down was rounded up or vice versa), and this may be the case with these event bosses with very high defense. Currently this should not be the exact way the defense is calculated because according to the details given by the developers in the patch notes at the time of the RF it was understood that the defense would be converted to a percentage, something like 'x character attack' vs 'x target defense' would result in a total damage of 80%, 70%... There are certainly notable differences between the old and the new damage formula, but the logic probably should be the same. With so many variables these strange things are easy to come by, for example if you take the value of your non-critical damage and multiply by your CDI the value is never expected (usually below expectations). A 5000 hit does not deal a 15000 critical with 200% CDI, even if you test on a very weak mob where it is unlikely to have any critical damage resistance.

    • @EdegarPereira
      @EdegarPereira 5 лет назад

      If you are curious about how things worked in the past, I found some videos that may be interesting, although they are all in Portuguese I think it is not difficult to understand just by looking at the numbers on the screen: ruclips.net/video/-1YNQNoG5Kg/видео.html
      Notice at 5:24 that in the past Cabal reported the result of your damage before being defended by the target, this was the value that appears in parentheses in the video when selecting a skill (it was simply the attack multiplied by the total amp). With this value it was possible to discover the defense of any mob in the game, just subtracting the value in parentheses from the non-critical damage to the mob. This other video demonstrates this: ruclips.net/video/Q2ra6omOovs/видео.html
      The differences in calculation here is because of the mob level, where for each additional level he had +1 defense.

      If you don't then crit dmg*2 and amp*1
      Only go for amp instead of crit damage if you have extreme 4 or higher weapons.

      Whichever you enjoy more! :)
      Both have very useful party buffs/debuffs/synergies, both have suppression skills, both are cheap but I think you would have an easier time to find equipment for WA since there aren't too many GLs around. That is also the advantage of GL: with few of them around it's easier to get into parties that need them.

    While I appreciate the effort it takes to write guides and record and do all that, I cannot agree with the highly inaccurate description of the game mechanics. As someone that has done extensive testing regarding the damage formula and not only (you may remember my Damage Calculator excel file), I can tell you that we do know how penetration works, 100 amp does not double your damage output, etc. Please please please do extensive research before posting guides, because it confuses people instead of making it clearer and that is the reason why so many wrong theories exist about the damage formula, about the drop system about a lot of game mechanics, even 13 years after the game has been released.
    No offense meant, I just hate the idea of inaccurate information being spread, especially by someone with a high reach (this channel has 7620 subscribers). It's just morally wrong to misguide people, in my opinion (intended or unintended).
    Just to make myself very clear: My problem is with the accuracy of the information in some of your guides, not you personally, as I don't know you.

      It's really appreciated that someone with such a popular history of Cabal shares his opinion, many thanks for that! And no offense taken, constructive criticism is always more than welcome.
      However, I believe you misunderstood something: I did not claim that 100% amp would double your damage, I claimed that it would be the case in the impossible example of someone having 0% amp and cd to start with (ignoring every other offensive stat and defensive stats of the target), which I do believe is correct.
      I'd very much like some clarification on exactly what you consider wrong here, and would also be delighted to learn how exactly penetration works (possibly with a description of your testing method to try it as well).

      @@hakaishin4314 No, because it is heavily outdated and I took it down. I haven't had time to keep it up to date, so I retired it around 2017. But until 2012 when I took my first Cabal break, it was extremely accurate.

    • @RatzaTM
      @RatzaTM 5 лет назад

      @@1minuteCABALguides First and foremost, for the sake for your example, let's assume a target has 0 defense, 0 dmg reduction, 0 0 00 everything. In that case, and in any other case, AMP is applied to your attack value, not your final damage value, meaning that if you had 1000 attack and the enemy had 0 defense, then in this impossible scenario, the damage would be 1000 crit/noncrit. By adding 100 amp, you do not increase the 1000 damage, you "boost" the 1000 attack, which will NOT result in 1000 damage, because Cabal uses a threshold mechanism (kinda like STATS : Between X and Y attack, 1 point of amp gives a boost of Z, whereas between X' and Y', 1 amp gives Z' not Z). In other words, 1 amp at 1000 attack does considerably less than 1 amp at 2000 attack or 3000 or 4000. So instead of freezing the attack to 1000, when you add amp, you make it "feel" like you have 2000, 3000 attack, not final damage. And the greater the difference between your attack and the monster defense, in the new Cabal damage system, the better the output.
      So while that may have worked back in the day when we had additive stuff like ATT * (Skill amp + char amp) - defense value + add dmg = final damage, it is not the case anymore, where we work with efficiency ratios.

    • @RatzaTM
      @RatzaTM 5 лет назад +1

      Trying to isolate amp and simplifying it to the point where it's a linear increase is going to send you on a wild goose chase.
      Attack and amp and penetration are relative to each other, so you can't split them. The only attributes which you can split are CR and CD and you can form a relationship between the two of them only, not amp, not penetration, because CR and CD can be independently applied after all computation has been done at ATT*AMP*PENE level.

    I wish cabal makes fade, dash, roll and WI blink with cooldown which makes ppl not run and outrun DPS when they are dying. Ppl just popup spam skills and runs away. There is no purpose for support like healers which only FA and FS with long CD had. Almost all character are DPS build and have similar direction on their endgame stats. Isnt it nice if class have diff choice of build they want to go, is it full DPS, semi support (healer, curse remover), assist, debuffer, inflict negative attributer, stunner, downer, KBer. Not the one I saw ppl just throw skills get the highest point and your the strongest character which makes the game just WHO HAD BETTER STAT WIN.
    I dont even like why they just make all class semi range class, almost all class are now range and keep making BM's makes the early BM's and combo useless. I missed the old way manually attacking combo is fun. Now the game looks stupid to me. They keep adding more stats on the game and now they keep changing the effect.

    • @1minuteCABALguides
      @1minuteCABALguides  4 года назад +2

      You can't expect a class like a WI, whose main perk is mobility and damage with paper defense not to have any option to flee. They boosted the heal skills of FA a couple of updates ago so now it's almost impossible to kill one if he keeps healing. FS received several additions to help survive, etc... They are trying to balance some things out but unfortunately with 75% of the players choosing blader, they can't afford to properly nerf that one.

      @@1minuteCABALguides bikes now a days are common and obtainable. Im talking about pvp where ppl can just easily runs away when they are in trouble. I dont see ppl work together assist each other on a group clash. What I imagined is a dying comrade can be healed by ally while running away to survive, an enemy can hold, stun, down, kb him (as usual a probability not a 100% effectiveness) or ganged him to take him down. They only support they give is sharing its buff and party buff.
      You know a dps are supposed to be squishy thats their cons but a support can help u survive, a tanker can take more dmg but he lacks dps he can swap gears though to make him a dps but the drawback he may loose his tankiness also support help him survive, a support can heal etc, an assist can debuff and mess out the pace of offensive like debuffing, giving him negative attributes or disabling him to be productive. All characters are full dps based without drawbacks and all you need to do is to have better stats than your opponent to beat him.
      In pvp there must have:
      Who prevents a person to be productive (debuff, stunned, down, kb so on)
      Who heals comrade
      Who hold a person from running away (hold, stun, down so on)
      Who tanks frontline mostly melees (this is where support comes into play)
      A DPS
      Anyway I played shaiya priv server after cabal and I guess they balanced out the definition of dps, tanking, support and assist on that game well. I wish cabal major revamp its mechanics cos I also like this game but very item based game.
