I got the gen 1. I haven't had any complains personally. If it ever breaks I'll upgrade but I've had a good experience. Yea you gotta deal with stuck on milk but I always immediately add water after I transfer to a pitcher. It helps a lot with cleanup. No soap needed.
Had both gen 1 and Gen 2 that cover and better heat distribution change everything. Work better then gen 1 and I never get the loud noise not frotting issue I had with the gen1 (propeller stuck not getting magnetic engage). Better version overall
I’m glad they updated it and I do agree lots of variables, but I honestly think the new one is the one they should have released as lot of the issues we had where obvious already from day one and should have been dealt with in their initial R&D as it definitely would’ve come up there if done throughout enough.
They definitely have a model of kickstarting as a way of doing that initial development (and they’re certainly not the only ones to do that). I was willing to take the risk with the NanoFoamer amateur and I’m glad I did. The Pro was more of a risk, though.
Absolutely agree. I think I will reluctantly upgrade to gen 2, as the burnt milk issue makes it effectively unusable, but we really damned well shouldn't need to.
@ I hate the burned milk, which makes it a one person device because you need to soak it properly remove it without force… there is another brand making one I’ll likely upgrade to that or get the Morning steamer
@@mikni4069 I placed the gen2 order yesterday already. At the very least they offer an upgrade discount. I'm sure other brands make good solutions but this one happens to match the rest of my setup visually too.
I've not found the nanofoamer to be overwhelming with options. I think once most people use it for a short period, they'll have their preferred rubber find insert, an select the same desired duration each time they make a coffee. I find I don't modify anything now when I use it.
Excited for the Dreo review and comparison. I secretly hope the Nanofoamer comes out on top because it would be hard for me to stomach the Dreo‘s industrial design 😅
Thanks for that, sounds promising. Subminimal seem to have done a decent job addressing issues with their first generation - there are some great ideas in there, and I really like the level adjust knob. I’ve had first and second gen NanoFoamer Amateurs (i.e. non Pro!) and while the first gen undoubtedly was a proof of principle, gen 2 (lithium, in my case), is a much more mature product. I take your point about the finickiness of all the controls with the Pro, but I’d argue that successful microfoaming is a complex and precision process, and to do it properly for a range of milk volumes and applications will require complex capabilities in the device, rather like espresso making! Once you’ve got it dialed in for a couple of your favourites, it’ll be much simpler to use. However, is that too much for some users (the kind who’d prefer a BDB over a Flair 58)? Could be, yes!
The raised temperature threshold seems a little concerning, considering that the V1 unit that Lance Hedrick had was already significantly overshooting. I'm not sure that making it easier to overcook your milk is the right play here.
I had one sent and it was dead on arrival. Because of all the videos out on the prototypes, I felt it's best I wait until the finalized version so the review can be conclusive and now a list of things they MIGHT fix or might not
My biggest question would be if dreo has the burnt milk issue on the base when doing back to back shots? If not its automatically a win for me coming from the gen 1. The added removable pitcher for easy cleaning with no electronics to worry about that also allows pouring of designs just fixes all my frustrations with the gen 1.
I see so I guess there really isn't a way to avoid the stuck on milk issue due to the nature of the design and location of the heating elements of these types of frothers. Guess that's the tradeoff when comparing these types of frothers to a steam wand. I am curious though how many batches you can pump out on the gen 2 and the dreo before it starts to burn onto the base compared to the gen 1 where I can do 2 batches max before risking burning milk on the base.
Do a quick swirl with water and wipe to dry it out and you'll be good for the next batch on either. The gen 2 and Dreo don't get the same burned on milk as the Gen 1 that requires hard scrubbing
How does the milk taste compare to both a steam wand and the regular NanoFoamer? I have a regular Nanofoamer and while it can make well integrated milk the taste is very, very different than from a steam wand. My coffee ends up tasting more like a Café au lait than a latte, albeit with more texture. Which really isn't what I am going for.
I am one of those who hate the cleanup of the milk scum and lack of water resistance of Gen1, so I was thinking of getting the Gen2 and gifting/selling the other. But then I came across the Dreo Barista Maker. Even though it is huge, it seems to make the same microfoam and has better display/info screen and can also mix powdered drinks. Do you have a plan to review the Dreo? Just looking for hands on review and not an AD focused on latte art.
It gets a very little cameo in at the end of this video :) it will be reviewed Milk scum on Dreo is equal to the Gen 2 Nanofoamer, maybe slightly better. Latte art milk quality is there, but you need to use a large ish volume of milk to get perfect results and you have no control over temperature in that mode. In mixing mode you can choose temp and texture (roughly) as it's just generically mixing with a whisk
I have the Dreo. It comes with two attachments. The one small attachment does nothing at all been back and forth with them for two weeks and they aren’t giving me anything of substance. Supposed to create hot or thick foam and all it gives me is hot milk. That is what led me here to this product. Still don’t know what I want to do other than try and get my money back.
@@LifestyleLab_ sent them videos 2x now. it's magnetic and pops in not sure how else to install it. it doesn't seem to spin, just shakes. anyway, maybe they will send me another. the impeller works great. the disc attachment not so much. not sure really what it is supposed to do that the impeller doesn't do?
@@LifestyleLab_ the on screen display wants us to use it for "thick foam" when you select that. it's doesn't do anything like that. mixing I can see but is the machine wrong then? thanks for your help. it's more response then they have given me lol. I've sent photos and videos.

Gen 2 seems worse than gen 1 other than the protection of the electricals. However I've gone back to frothing milk from a good steam wand just because there is less clean up required.
@@LifestyleLab_ the slower great up time, having to deal with the height of the knob. Having the improved top is the main draw card. My wife who is an amateur at coffee only tried using the nanofoamer for a month before going back to using the steam wand even though her foaming technique is not perfect. Just the workflow is high friction especially when making back to back milk drinks.
The cleaning is the biggest problem of Gen 1, as I'm always worried to accidentally throw water on the electronics, and I don't want to use it often because of that. Unfortunately, unlike other products that ship worldwide from the campaign, they split their crowfundings into 2 different campaigns and took forever to ship it here in Japan. By the time I finally got it straight out of crowdfunding, not much time passed and they unveiled a Gen 2 solving this issue... Not only we had to wait a lot longer, we're left with an arguably problematic product. It doesn't leave me with many positive feelings about the company.
