    I recently had the HP reverb G2 and also already had the Vive Pro with lens mod. The G2 did not perform well against the Vive Pro. The Vive Pro beat it hands down on everything except the screen door effect which is minimal anyway with the Vive pro. The G2 was sent back and I kept the vive pro. Blacks are black colours are more colourful sweet spot is ...well its all sweet spot. Better build quality and this headset is over a year old. It also can go wireless.

      Ive been searching youtube for that answer. Ive been looking for reasurance to buy the vive pro and do a lens mod. I went from Vive og lens mod to oddysey+ to HP reverb G2. All heads sets impressed me apart from G2. The g2 does have impressive resolution but colours are washed out, blacks are grey, god rays are bad, ipd and sweet spot make it difficult to focus. And GPu load is enourmous.

      @@nb8c_fd yes I did!! And I did the lens mod the second it arrived. I compared both headset for a couple weeks so not to make a rushed decision. I’ve since sold the G2 with no regrets in favour of the vive pro with lens mod. It would be nice if it had 30% more pixels but it’s not a deal breaker. It is enough as it is. I’ve recently invested more into it too buying the body tracking. I don’t see myself upgrading until another oled with higher resolution and pancake lenses hits the market. That might be PlayStation new vr headset if it can be pc compatible.

    This video is so underrated, just tried my index for the first time, It has one of the worst lense of any HMD I own (Vive, PSVR, Q1, Q2, Rift S) I wear glasses which makes things even worse, I just couldn't handle the narrow sweet spot and the awful glare all over the place, I thought maybe I'm getting delusional since I never heard someone saying Index has such poor lense, so I went and compared it to my Rift S, and wow, the clarity is just superb here, no glare and clear till the edge of the screen.
    I spent 50 min on my index trying to adjust the IPD, the distance, the position on my head and I couldn't fix it. I put it back on the box, I received it for free btw, I just can't imagine someone spending a $1K to for this HMD and getting worse clarity than $300 Rift S.
    I use my Vive all the time for my steam VR, and I have no problem with my Vive and the sweet spot.
    This just shows what kind of fake RUclipsrs are there, none of them mentioned this issue till I just found your video after spending a couple of hours on Reddit. I really thought my Index is defective before I find your video.
    So thank you for your time in making this video.

My 1080Ti Founders Edition was always a great card, but I REALLY made it shine by adding a $30 Kraken G12 GPU mount to add a CPU AIO Water cooler... Now there is no thermal throttling! I'm quite sure, a lens swap on the index is possible, because I've swapped the stacked lenses of my Vive Pro 2 also 😉 But the software barrel distortion fix is not anymore working with the new Vive Pro 2 + Vive Console.. The increased FOV is nice but not that much, mainly because the extra FOV is blurry on the edges so it's not useful in my opinion. The increased refresh rate is not that great for performance and you really notice a lot more detail with the Lens Mod on the Pro at 90hz than you do with faster movements on 144hz with the Index.

I'm gettting a Pro and doing the lens mod. If its way better I'll be selling my Index. I dont care very much about audio or comfort or the controllers. Clarity is my only goal. Edit: The Wands are terrible. I just cannot use them so I'll be keeping the knuckles. I'm doing the gear mod to the Pro. Before the gear mod I think the pro is only marginally worse than the Index.

    But index is generally more trash!, XD pro has wireless capability, it's sold on Amazon and many other places that have a better warranty to next day delivery on a replacement, shall I continue? Pro is generally better...
    Also the index controllers have shit they have issues with drift and more.... they aren't compatible with all games so you've either got to find a suitable premade controller layout profile or make your own... they are fragile as fuck..... buy a pro bundle, buy index controllers to use in compatible games and then use pro controllers on anything else

    I just got an index and it is blurry as hell... 3080 TI, 64GB @4000, 8 core 16 thread 4.7ghz 7820x, and nvmes for drives... I can see the individual red / green / blue, then a black bar, between each pixel. Doesn't matter how I change the lenses, it cuts into my nose. The text is blurry and impossible to clear up, like it has dof enabled by default and other things where the edge of the screen is blurry like they want you to move your head instead of your eyes ( can't move my head ). It may not be for me until higher resolution is available and they get away from these crappy lenses. I am actually thinking about removing them.. Additionally, the backlight glares off the lenses so you can see it behind the screen then as you are in a bright area it bounces off the lens and you see a very bright spot on the lens...
    Also, can't play standing so I'm stuck in a seat... so many bugs requiring you to move through the floor to get at things even with the crouch / height adjust bound - just depends where you are standing, they could half a lot of that range. There is also a lot of tearing when rotating even at 24-28 rotation rate.
    The controllers don't fit right either, in any setting... if you take a few fingers off the index controllers, it doesn't always recognize the right finger. I've tried adjusting to the right point but it wants me to spread them quite a lot. There doesn't seem to be any calibration bit for that either.
    The audio is pretty good, though.

    Coming in late because I just ordered an index. Not saying your conclusion was not correct, but Alex is not a good game to do comparisons on as it internally does Res and detail adjustments to keep a steady requested framerate, all done above and beyond the Steamvr settings. You also have the index running at 144hz on Index vs 90 for ViveP, so you are asking AlexHL to run at almost twice the Framerate in the Index that on the ViveP. If you rig was to run HL at 140 FPS, HL will reduce res and detail to compensate in the Index, but on the Vive, since its above 90fps, full res and detail. If you have not already, I say put the index in 80hz mode and see what you think about texture detail and clarity then.

    • @untitledproductionMI
      @untitledproductionMI  3 года назад +1

      I can update this with another game. But every game is a significant difference. Even with both headsets at 90hz. It's a combination of the fresnel lenses not being clear as the GearVR and the LCD color saturation and overall contrast being significantly worse than the Vive Pro's OLED

    Not a fan of the lens mod, I prefer the Vive Pro stock over anything else. In addition to some distortion the scale is smaller and everything is about 80% of where it should be - areas don't look as big and impressive, weapons look smaller in the hand, etc. It's like looking at the world through a slight wide angle lens or something, I don't get the same sense of presence. All I can hope is that we get another OLED headset in the future because I will never buy an LCD headset again. Bad black levels are worse than almost anything, imo.

    • @maulcs
      @maulcs Год назад +1

      @@replacesoundboard It depends on how much you value black levels/contrast over resolution. For me, OLED is crucial for VR, and when I go into a cave or am in space, I want it to be actually black, and not like I'm staring at a grey backlit LCD. Other people prefer raw resolution - both would obviously be preferable, which is why I'm waiting for whatever headset is next that has these specs. Vive Pro 1 has a decent jump in resolution over Vive, so I'd recommend that over Vive Pro 2, but again it depends on your preferences.

      @maulcs Год назад +1

      @@replacesoundboard When I was researching this initially coming from an Oculus CV1 and Rift S, I compiled a lot of comparisons of pixel density and SDE - the difference from Vive to Vive Pro is certainly noticeable in everything I've seen. 2,592,000 vs 4,608,000 total pixels, with the Vive Pro 1 having the same resolution as the Valve Index, but no RGB so SDE is still a bit noticeable.
      I have it with the Index controllers right now, and the wireless add-on with 3 base stations. Very solid but expensive setup that can't really be matched by anything out currently imo, again unless the main focus is resolution. The wireless adapter does make things just slightly blurrier with some additional mura pattern (which some people don't notice), but having no tether is well worth it most of the time.
      I was really hoping that Vive Pro 2 was OLED, so I could just keep using my base stations and wireless adapter. Big disappointment there, so now I'm looking forward to the new Valve headset eventually (which better not be LCD). If the new PS5 VR headset worked with PC that would also be great, but no dice.

      Link is in the description. That mod does not require any software to work.

    I've had the gear lens mod on my og vive and vive pro for ages and until a few months ago always had to take breaks in the vive pro due to slight eye strain , but now it's perfect for my eyes the fix was to add a few extra layers of double sided tape to the out edges of the lens , I think it's to do with the lcd panel size being slightly larger than the og vive and the tape straightens everything up again .

    Who else is mad because he put his index upside down

  • @Sh4dovv
    @Sh4dovv 3 года назад

    Ya but isn't that going to be because your running the index at 144hz and that drops your res vs the vive pro running at 90hz 100% is going to be higher res vs index .. you'd have to put the index over 100% to match the level which should make the index look alot better

    The Pro was not running at 100% res
