It threw a rod and busted up one of the cylinder walls and a bit of the internal structure of the crankcase. The other rod was about to seize and snap too upon close inspection. Both cylinders had severe scoring and both pistons were very badly damaged. I'd guess that it was run low on oil or never had the oil changed. Perhaps both.
I just wanted to say great video and wanted to ask if you know where I can purchase the select return spring for the 4x4 shifter on a 1989 toyota pickup
I picked up a used R150f transmission for my 1995 4Runner. Before I mounted it up I put the shifters in it to make sure everything shifts smoothly. The transmission works fine but I can't seem to get the T case to shift. It appears to be in 4 wheel because when I spin the output/input shaft the output shaft spins. Any advice?
I have taken my shifter levers off so that I could remove my transmission and noticed on the main shift lever that the top plate where the shifter pivots from has some major wear. I am wanting to replace it but I am not sure how to do it because I am not sure how to separate the black upper rubber part of the lever from the lower half, could you tell me how you would do that? Thanks
It's a trade off. It is nice to be able to engage 5th gear without reaching into the glovebox, but the shifts are noticeable stiffer. I can't say I dislike it, but I can say I don't like it enough to warrant the cost. So if I could do it again I wouldn't buy it. But now that I have it, I won't be removing it.
I have an '87 4wd toyota pickup regular cab base model with the 22r engine. It's a manual transmission but what model do I have? Anywhere to look on the trans for the model number? Thanks
+Mud Toy It sure was. I changed the seat for the transmission shifter. The transfer case shifter is fine. What size is the Allen/hex wrench for the check/fill plug on my 1987 Toyota 4WD Pickup with manual trans? Thanks
Im sure your install a clutch videos are about to come in handy because mine just went out 6 miles from my house, also the top was off and it was about to completely freaking pour down rain. fml
Hi Alex, Changing out the shifter Bushings on my 86 Toyota pickup, I went to check the 4 wheel drive shifter it too was was all mangle and needed to be replaced however there is nothing I can find as to what size and where you can get them, to the best of your Knowledge are they the same bushing as you use on the Transmission shifter ?
@@TheAlexManVideos Thank you Alex, Since I had the one apart might as well take the other apart and clean it up as well to my surprise there was that same mashed up gritty material in there as well, some mechanic must have thought it best to put a busing in there at some point in time, I have had this Truck since Day one
Makes it so you don't have to move the shifter as far between gears. I thought it was a cool modification but it really isn't worth much on a slow old truck. Sort of debatable on sports cars too. I ultimately reverted to stock, took this off, and sold it.
I did take some footage of that but to be honest it was a long time ago and I might not have it anymore. I can tell you that it was totally ruined and in no way repairable.
wait - you were able to remove the 6 bolts holding the plate to the transmission...but then you had to cut the body metal back to install the same 6 bolts? cutting the body just feels.....i don't know.....wrong. right? doesn't it? i've got to do this work soon so i'll find a way to not cut the body. thank you so much for taking the time to make all of these videos!
The spacer brings everything up and closer to the body reducing clearance while at the same time requiring longer bolts. I've since removed this and returned the shifter back to stock for better feel and easier shifts.
I have a little library of your videos. You have helped an old man understand a lot. I have the exact same Toyota . W56 Transmission and all.
Thanks for your feed back.
Bought my first 4runner in 1985. Loved that truck put 243,000 miles on it. Thanks.... Jymi.

I think you have me sold on the short shifter kit. As soon as the projects slow down I'll pick one up. Do you like it? Thanks... Jymi
You make some great videos, always helpful when doing work on my pickup. Thanks!
Why did you not replace the torn inner boot on your shift lever?

Wow! What would you do instead?
How much shorter is it? The shaft looks like its the same length to me.
could you make a video of the after math with the 17.5HP opposed twin on the red Murray

231MasseyFerguson Mine is a hex head bolt. Use a 24MM socket
231MasseyFerguson The VIN # will have info on what tranny engine cab size efi or carb and other factory parts that came on it.
Justin McClain only the 22re and 22ret came with w56. others are G52.

The RF-1 transfer case doesn't have a bushing under the shifter like the W56B transmission does.

Why the installation and what does Short shifter do for you?

Ahh...shifter sheets. I remember replacing T-case sheet. IT WASN'T THERE! Looked like baby food mush.
