We run two clothing stores out of my house - mine and my sons - 500 and 1400 listings. He lists 10+ every day while I do 5+. Everything was going great until about 1-2 months ago... then a very steep drop in sales. Up until that point I was averaging 3-5 sales per day and he was 8-14 - now it's 0-2 and 4-8 on average. Promote at 10% across the board - discount sales - coupons - etc. Summer slow-down is to be expected, but this is ridiculous.
This month is the worst I've ever experienced in my full time ebay business. I'm really nervous. I'm tired of blaming myself when I worked harder this month than ever plus free shipping, plus auctions. This is terrifying

FYI, floor dehumidifiers work wonders. Our basement flooded a few years ago and we set up two dehumidifiers and the whole place was bone dry in less than 24 hours.

If your store was slow minus the flooding mishap the rest of us are suffering even more. Nice finds at the bins. We have not shopped for a while as have to save money until economy improves.
I live in a floodplain and I store everything in plastic bins because of that. It is pricey, but necessary. People who have never been flooded before are having their first bout. I think pretty much everyone needs to think about water protection. Good luck getting things back on track, you guys can do it!

I know you follow Tech’s advice and he recommends having a bank of drafts to auto list daily to keep the listing numbers the same for life’s unexpected events. Is that something you’ve not done due to the sheer number of listings you do every day? I would think that would be a whale of a lot of work to do, to build up say 10 to 14 days of drafts!!!
Also, very sorry about your flooding situation. I know it all too well and recently had Permaseal out to repair my Ebay room in the basement. Not a fun clean up but really helps when they are protected in the plastic. Good Luck!

I think the basement sitch sucks but you guys handled it pretty well. I’ve had to deal with it before with my storage as well. At least it isn’t just my sales that are down right now. Going on vacation messed me up a bit but I’ll be following along with you guys to see how it turns around

Damn that stinks about the basement flood. I hope the damage was very minimal and didn't effect a bunch inventory. I currently operate my eBay business out of my garage because the house I bought doesn't have a basement.... just a tiny old dirty crawlspace, so that was never an option. Sure, it took a notable amount of money to convert my bare bones garage into an operating workspace with heating and cooling, but little did I know this was probably a blessing in a disguise. I will never have to worry about leaking pipes or flooding whatsoever. Those types of things could be chatostrphic to my business, and I can not afford to take a risk like that. After seeing these kinds of stories, time and time again, I think my business rule will always be no basements for the business operations... and ideally, single story structures to eliminate the risk of 2nd story water pipes leaking onto inventory.
IMO - I’m sure if we all looked at where things fell off … it was right after the 🔫 on DT … my theory is that event created a lot of uncertainty and fear

I know the feeling. My property has flooded twice in the last couple of years because we had 2 storms come through that they said were hundred year floods.
I wanted to go from listing 5 a day consistently to 3 a day for about a month. I have enough summer shoes listed and boots are still a bit slow. I cut to 3 a day and went from awesome sales to a DEAD store. Traumatizing. Going back to my usual and know it will take time.
It’s been bad for me too. It’s amazing how if you don’t post consistently, they will instantly stop showing your listings to customers. Maybe that “summer slowdown” is a real thing too.
Ouch. FTY. We have home insurance that covers our store inventory. Talk to your insurance agent. Sometimes a crisis like this can be a blessing in disguise although it looks like you didn't lose a lot of inventory just a lot of time. YUCK. Sorry this happened.
I think everyone’s eBay store tanked the last few months. They redid the whole promoted listings, whenever they redid something on the site it affects sellers. My personal opinion is that has a lot to do with it.
What are you going to do if you get another rain storm. This happened to my friend and she had to get her basement waterproofed. That would be a great idea. I’m so sorry that happened to you guys. 😢😢😢
So sorry to hear about the flooding. Glad you guys are ok. I always wondered when you are listing what program the photos come up on. On the right side of your screen. Do you have an iphone? I find it so difficult to drag and drop from the iphone photo folders. It forces me to save each photo and upload it. I usually just save the listing as a draft and go back and add the pics through the ebay. Your way looks fast and flawless. How do you do it?
I’m using a pc and it’s just the default photos program that comes on the computer! I’ve tried doing it on my MacBook and it’s just honestly so chunky and not worth the time.
