It’s great, your addition of the little accent holes were a real plus to the Purple Heart, almost like small grapes in negative...
Cool, thanks!
I adore Purple Heart wood. It’s one of my favourite woods. Amazing colour. Lovely vase. I’d put that on my mantle piece.
Thanks!

You are amazing my friend. Love the color of the wood. I really like the project. Awesome job Peggy. Peace out my friend✌👍💜
Thanks very much!
I like it!
Thanks!
Actually, I quite like the ornamentation! The line tidies it up, and defines it better, too.
Thanks for watching 😍
Great tip about turning with the lathe in reverse! I may have to try that when I run into that issue. The vase looks great. Love working with Purpleheart.
Thanks!
Excellent work! If I had sharpened my bowl gouge more often my 3 cornered purple heart bowl wouldn’t have turned into a coaster. Thanks for that. Wish I could get Acks up here in Canada easily. It really looks amazing! Thanks for posting
Don
Thank you very much!
Really cool, I like the holes at the last moment. I need to get back into turning. Thanks!!!

Thank you! Cheers!
I like the last-minute design change. I cringed when you first started but I think it was worth the risk.
Thanks, Chris!
Purpleheart is beautiful wood. The vase turned out great! I like design changes on the fly! Well done!
Thanks!
Nothing wrong with changing things on the fly, often a piece talks to us and inspires changes. I like how this one came out.
Thanks!
Great Video 👍🏿
Thanks, Victor!
Nice job Peggy. Yesterday, at a club meeting, a tip was given to first drill a pilot hole before using a forstner bit. The reason being that the forstner bit doesn't cut the center very well, and it also gives a place for the chips to go. I will be trying this myself in the near future, to see if it works.
Thanks! and for the tip as well!
nice looking vase! i like the design change.....it was looking kinda plain....then it went to WOW! good job!
Thanks!
Love the design changes on the fly. Your creativity is awesome.
Thank you!
Brilliant. So well designed! Just love your work.
Thanks!
I like the holes. I may try that but with fewer and bigger irregular holes. Thanks!
Thanks!!
I made a pen out of purple Heart once and I love the way it looks with finish and how the sawdust looks
Yes, it's very pretty wood! Lovely.
Looks great, Peggy. I like the randomness of the hole shapes and spacings. I think the accent line set it off perfectly.
Thanks, William!
I like that you didn’t just stop at a vase. The extra detail just added more to the overall look!
Thanks!
Love
Thanks.
Peggy it is absolutely beautiful great job
Thanks, Donald!!
Nice work, really nice work! I dig the changes. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks much!
Beautiful vase Peggy, Purpleheart is a pretty wood L use it a lot. L like the holes in the top adds a nice touch, thanks for sharing
Thanks, Gary!
I know that many turners on RUclips just use the biggest Forstener bit they have when hollowing. Try starting with the largest twist drill you have ( I use 5/8"), then use your Forstener bits in increasing sizes. You'll eliminate the smoke, the heat that can damage your bit, and any chance of trapping the bit in the hole. You'll be amazed at how easily even tough wood will bore
Thanks! I'll have to try that.
Beautiful! Purple heart is such a lovely wood, and the leopard was a really neat touch!
Thanks!!👍🏻
Hi Peg thanks for the audio it's good to hear what you are doing.
Thanks!
nice work details extra very good
Thanks!!
I really like it Peggy👍
Thanks, Steve!
Love the vase, love purple heart, love the piercings. I'm always making design changes half way through a project. Let the wood come to you. 😁
Thanks much!
Excelent!
Thanks!
Precioso👍👍
Thanks,
Beautiful vase really love the design and finish your an amazing talent 👍👍👍
Thanks, Gavin!
I like it. Beautiful wood nice shape. Personally I would have obsessed over the little holes a little more.
Ha! Yes, I hear you! Thanks for watching.
Like the shape and the color I would not have gone with the holes
Thanks for watching!
Really enjoy your evolution as a turner. You just get better and better! You’re a brave artisan not afraid to take chances. Big kudos to you and thanks for continuing to share your skill.
Thanks!!!
Really cool!!! I love Purple Heart, although it is pretty hard to cut. I am glad I found your channel, it inspires me to keep learning about the craft. Can't wait to see the next one
Thanks!!
I love my sanding twigs!
Thanks! I do now!!! How did I live without them?!
Muito bonita e criativa esta peça, parabéns !!!
Thanks.
Purple Heart is a beautiful wood. I made a letter opener out of a piece one time and my skin broke out in a bunch of red dots from where every where a piece of dust touched my skin so I never used it again for fear of getting in my nose even wearing a dust mask, it's just not worth the chance for me.
The vase looks wonderful!!!!! you were reading my mind when you drilled those holes. I thought to myself, now she needs to either make a silver or gold line above and below the drilled holes or even a burn line would look good.
Anyway the vase looks wonderful I would have added a burn line on top also. In my opinion, a thin silver or gold line above and below the drilled holes would have looked better just to bring out the holes better and just add a touch of color.
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with changing ideas on the fly. I do it ALL the time and 9 times out of 10 the pieces end up looking better then what you had in mind to start with
Too bad about your allergy to purpleheart! Thanks for watching and the feedback...I appreciate it!
Dirty Curty Yeah, it does cause allergic issues. It never bothered me, but one time my husband kicked up a bunch of wood dust and he was a mess.
That was very nice to watch - I’ve done lots of things with purple heart and I was surprised that you didn’t mention the colour change that takes place - locely colour to start, a bit murky brown once cut and then pop it in the sun for a day or so and it’s magically back to purple.
Yes, it's like magic! Thanks for watching.
Watching you work is so calming and entertaining, not to mention instructive. I love your voice but you could be a little louder. My 70 yr old ears are not what they once were. But it doesn’t wake up my wife either so I guess it’s all good. Keep turning beautiful projects like this purple vase. It’s absolutely gorgeous even though I’m not a fan of the holy upper. Beautiful color.wood was obviously very hard.
Thanks 😊
Muito lindo!
Thanks 😊
Interesting...The holes turned out great. Would look nice with a little LED candle in it. Thanks for sharing Peggy
Thanks, Todd, might have to try the LED light!
Cool vase. love purpleheart. only thing is the red saw dust gets everywhere. lol
Thanks. Yes, indeed, it gets everywhere!
Looks nice not crazy about the holes
Thanks for watching!
Très beau !
Thanks!
Hello! Me and my wife love watching your videos, and how you explain what you do and why.
One tip on the smoking wood. Drilling any material, wood included, can be expected to create heat, but if your wood is smoking from excess heat, sharpen your bit, check the cutting speed, and use the right amount of pressure.
It should help, and save your wood and tools from damage!
All in all, we love your work, and aspire to get to your level of turning! Bravissimo!
Thanks for watching and for the feedback! Cheers!
Nice! I love purple heart! Very dense wood indeed. Beautiful vase and the design changes, "on the fly," are awesome. Well done. Liked and subscribed. Thanks!
Thanks! :-)
Is like turning a rock but worth the effort when done.
👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
A REALLY nice and interesting work, As a relative newcomer to woodturning I like your narrative explaining what you are doing as you go and tools you are using. It helps me a great deal so thank you for both great videos and guidance. One Question if I may I notice you ( and a few other experienced turners) use a bowl gouge to turn a blank to round rather than a roughing gouge... any reason or is it just personal preference.
Thanks for watching. Personal preference on the bowl gouge... :-)
Wasn't sold on holes originally, but separating it made all the difference.
Thanks, I thought so too!
Have you looked at the Harrison specialties simple hollowing system? I have had mine for about a year and a half and just love it.
I have not. I will take a peek. Thanks for watching!
@@PFWoodturning I have been turning a lot of Juniper wood lately and just love the red and pink colors in it.
@@PFWoodturning do you have a email? I could send you off a few pictures of my wood turnings.
Hi! I’m a recent subscriber and I was wondering if you could do a video on the cost/ detail of your equipment setup. I like that you explain the tools you use and your lathe settings. There are a lot of good wood turning videos but yours is very informative too.
Well done!
Thanks. Great suggestions....maybe for a future video!
Her lathe 2800 tools chucks 3000 grand it's an expensive but fun hobby I just spent 4200 on the Laguna 2436
The sky is the limit with turning and money
I like how you took what could have been a regular vase, and gave it some memorable character. The irregular holes make me think of a leopard's spots - a good thing in my opinion, considering how beautiful those cats are. So, we take a piece of beautiful wood, add an artist's skill in shaping it, and then the daring to make changes when you thought you were done? No brainer - it's awesome! That's how art works when it is done right.
Think of how boring great works of art would be if the artists who crafted them thought, "Good enough," and left the world with ONLY their rough drafts - Da Vinci's Mona Lisa without her little smile? Michelangelo's statues without their exquisite, chiseled details?
Thank you. Exactly. I like it's uniqueness!
Like the shape, holes and color. Please show your products a little longer. Nice job young lady.
Thanks. :-)
Patty another stunning piece, and you used my favourite timber purple heart. It's beautifully natural looking, beautiful lines and graining.
Btw do you have PO box? I would like to send a small craft piece I made for you. Peace out ✌️
Thanks for watching! Check my about page for mailing address---and thanks!
When you get done turning and sanding Purple Heart set it outside for the day in the sun before you finish seal it and it will go back Purple then seal in good with poly or lacquer in gloss, satin or flat depending on what look you're going for and it will keep it's color much better (If you like the Purple).
Cool, thanks!
im new to lathe turning.. actually just turned down some purple heart a few min ago.. its a trippy wood.. turning with the grain and against it i get 2 different looks and both are amazing.. curious on the rpm.. are you turning low rpm because its a bigger block... is it smaller the higher rpm and the bigger the lower? i was turning a small blank at 3400 rpm and its comes off so clean
Purpleheart is dense for sure. Not sure why I was turning lower---I probably could have sped it up!
Did you use any water resistant sealer on the inside? I have used glass inserts for bud vases but don’t have an insert large enough for a full size vase. What do you recommend?
No I didn't. I would use the glass inserts. I don't trust the water resistant sealers--only to use WITH the glass inserts. Thanks for watching!
Hi
Beautiful Vase, love your spontaneity. I have a couple of questions: Why did you initially use a Bowl Gouge, instead of a Roughing Gouge, and you said it was Purple Heart then you refer to Paduk, are they the same wood? Lastly< why did you use the Skew chisel as a Scraper and not in a slicing action?
Look forward to your next video.
Hi there. Thanks for watching. I like the bowl gouge better, so personal preference really. It is purpleheart, so if I said paduk, that was my mistake. As far as the skew, I tend to get a good cut when I use it as a scraper.
Was really thinking you were gonna finish off with some resin work to fill in the holes when you started drilling. Maybe next time.
Would be a great idea!
I end up changing my designs on rue fly all the time.
I run into problems in the wood or have the bowl jump off the chuck....
Yes! Thanks for watching!
You said that you sharpened the chisel several times, have you ever sharpend the fostnerbit?
Hi there. No, haven't sharpened the forstner bit yet.
I like it!!! WHEW!!! sure glad that wasn't a real tattoo on your hand.
Ha! Thanks. Nope, it was very a temporary tattoo!!!
A purpleheart knife handle blank at about 1" x 1,5" x 4 3/4" is 10 dollars or more here, and is pretty much the only purpleheart you can get your hands on legally. :( Sweden is unfortunately very vanilla in that regard, we have nothing with that "exotic beauty"-look to work with.
That's too bad, purpleheart is so beautiful! Thanks for watching!
I think less is more, and personally wouldve gone without the holes.
Thanks for watching!
While you do an amazing job usually, I really didn't care for the holes. It could trigger some people (not me) with trypophobia.
Thanks! Appreciate the honest feedback!
