I think Romo assumed Dak would hand the ref the ball like he should have instead of his center. Also, the ref cheated a bit in the interest of saving Dallas time. If you look at the head linesman, the line of scrimage was the 25 but Dallas was lined up on the 24. Let's be real. Cowboys should've never have been in this situation in the first place playing sloppy the entire game. Can't blame the ref here. Both teams made crucial mistakes including Jimmy G with the int and Trent Williams with that 4th down false start. 49ers were the better team overall this day.
Garropolo made this game closer than it needed to be with his overthrow to Aiyuk on 3rd and 11, The INT late AND not letting Trent Williams get set before snapping the ball on their last possession
I love how everyone dogs on JG. He wasn’t perfect, but he out played Dak this game and Stafford last game. Winning a road playoff game isn’t an easy thing to do and he’s throwing with basically a broken thumb. That said, what a dumb play by Dak at the end 🤦🏻
@@mtk530 because he has consistently made the same mistakes since he first joined SF. Even in the SB run they had, he was still making the same mistakes: bad/slow reads , mistimed /overthrown passes etc. it’s a reason all of his yards comes from yac off drags and under routes. And let’s be real. Jimmy off stats doesn’t outplay most starting QBs. He is simply a beneficiary of having extraordinary weapons around him who gain so much yac that it inflates his passing yards. If we didn’t have the offensive scheme /personnel we do, jimmy is not producing.
I know the ref’s have been making a lot of mistakes this year but I’m on the ref’s side in this game. Dak and the fans want to blame the officiating for the loss but the cowboys made a lot of bonehead penalties and pre snap mistakes. The Cowboys looked totally unprepared for the game. If anyone is at fault it’s the head coach
I agree 100%. The Cowboys ran the ball with no timeouts, then created a wall that blocked the ref from getting to the ball in time. Look at that ref - he was sprinting up to the ball so he could place it, and then he ran into a bunch of bodies wearing Cowboys uniforms. I don't see any blame here that can be placed on the refs.
First off, I'm no Dallas fan. The weeping of the fans made me LOL to be honest. But ask yourself why was he sprinting? He COULD have followed the play knowing that time was about to expire, but he sits there...way-way back and the other refs sit there doing nothing. This SAME REF is the one that refused to let them snap after the fake punt. Seems sus to me...
@@michaedove3562 at this point to have this conspiracy theory against the ref’s is kinda ridiculous. Dallas fans are acting like the ref’s literally robbed the game from them when the cowboys were playing terrible. I feel they are acting like the raiders fans. They win & they automatically think they are heading to the super bowl but when they don’t it’s the ref’s who are against them
@@Camaroguy79971 I watched the game live and I saw the ref not allow them to hike the football in the previous Dallas possession. Its not a conspiracy theory. That ref intentionally got them a 5 yard penalty on a critical drive...on purpose... And then the same ref lollygags around 30 yards behind the play, effectively ending the game. Just seems way to suspect for me. Dallas team expected the forward ref to rush in and place the ball. But those guys didn't move. Back ref had to run across the field through their o-line. Dallas sucked in that game and deserved to lose and I don't really care about them moving on or not...but I do care about refs being fair. Like a LOT. Football is quickly becoming an unwatchable game because of ref calls (or in this case ref actions) deciding games. For example, several Pittsburg games were entirely decided by the refs, and it was only the refs actions that allowed them to make the playoffs...and that's horseshit IMO. F-big bens "no losing season" record. Game should be fair or else its not watchable IMO.
Another thing to keep in mind is even if they do get the ball spiked, they’d still have to score a 25 yard TD on one play against a prevent defense which is very difficult. Not like they could’ve just kicked a FG
Thank you so much for pointing this out. It’s like all Cowpoke fans thinks the ref cost them the game. First of all he didnt, and second of all they still had one low percentage chance to make a touchdown. It’s not like Dak had been playing well so no guarantees.
Just a terrible play call. And if you are dumb enough to run it, Dak HAS to get to the sideline on that! You can’t run it up the gut and hope you clock it quickly enough to get ONE play off. That should have been a 3-play sequence that you had practiced ahead of time, Just a sad sack coaching performance. And it’s problematic that Dak doesn’t have the awareness or confidence or clout to change that play call as soon as it comes in. You wouldn’t catch Brady or Peyton (if they could run) actually running that play, I don’t care if Jerry himself called it!
This hurts more than “Dez Caught It” because Dez caught it with plenty of time for Aaron Rodgers to clown our trash defense (that season) and score on us again. This sucks because we failed instead of being cheated. This sucks because it leaves me thinking Dak just ain’t it.
Romo is like a genius. He said with like 1:30 seconds left to play that best case scenario for the Cowboys is if they get the ball back with 80 yards to go with 40 seconds left or closer to 30 seconds left. After everything that happened between the Niners 1st getting the ball back on their last possession and the Cowboys getting the ball back look at the yardage and time left when Dallas gets the ball back after all the stuff that had to happen in between. 80 yards to go in 32 seconds. Hats off to Romo. He played that better than and two minute drill he ever did when he played.
I love seeing the Cowboys' owner's box at the end of another disastrous playoff loss. HA HA!!! Really, who was more important for the Cowboys... Jimmy or Jerry? I think it's pretty obvious.
@Thor Targareyon It's how I was raised. But don't get me wrong, I don't wish harm on anyone on the Dallas lineup. In fact, I like it when Dallas loses when they are performing at their optimum. Those are the losses that really hurt. To quote Bane: "There can be no true despair without hope."
I shiver when I try to evoke empathy - to think what they must be thinking and feeling after being pumped up on that padded W-L record and padded #1 stats. Devastated. They must be devastated and will be devastated for days, maybe weeks. I'm a 49er Faithful and hate Dallas, always have. But those poor fans, foolish as they are. Wrecked in the worst way. Not just dominated by a Wildcard team on the road in THEIR stadium, but the additional hurt of witnessing the self-destruction and just complete unraveling of their team and instant death of their winning season. One of the ugliest losses in NFL history.
Part of that had to do with that dumb nfl rule that only existed in 2006 where only those slick never been used balls were allowed to be used on field goals. All it did was cause botched snaps, and field goal percentages were bad that year. I didn't even know about that rule until recently when seeing someone comment. Looked it up, and sure enough.
@@eXHackeR So? The Dallas Cowboys haven't made it back to the NFC title game since they won it all back in 1995. Robert Kraft did more with the New England Patriots between 2001 and 2018 than what Jerry Jones did between 1992 and 1995.

The boneheaded penalties and bad playcalling are the reasons the Cowboys lost this game. Let’s give this San Francisco Defense a lot of credit for making Dak Prescott the entire game uncomfortable in the pocket

@@Hunty49 they looked a lot better without him and warner than i thought tbh. they were definitely missed, but the rest of the defense got the job done
Last play: Dak starts sliding at the 26 (on a freeze frame it really looks like he started sliding at the 27 but let's call it 26 to be fair), he slides all the way to the 22 ish yard, the Cowboys then proceed to spot the ball at the 23 1/2, ref sees this and tries to move the ball back a bit, he moves it back to the 24 1/2 (really should have been moved back to the 26), the Cowboys center then RE-SPOTS the ball at the 24 because if the Line of Scrimmage is the 24 1/2 then they would all be offside. So... If you want to say the Cowboys got "screwed", just know that they snapped the ball a whole 2 YARDS ahead of where the ball should have been spotted.
Actually the ref fails by not being around the ball. Dak got up and no ref was in the area for him to hand the ball too. Even 49 era defense was set and still no refs in the area. RIGGED!
@@RioAntonio1 He was there with 6 secs left. Plenty of time if he didn't have to fight through the players. If Dak would have jumped up and tossed the ball as the ref came up, they would have been fine.

Tony Romo analyzed the last 2 plays perfectly in advance. With :14 to go and no time-outs, you have to either do sidelines or endzone. The QB keeper is a terrible play there, precisely because of the time problem to get everybody set for the next (last) play. If you have :14 at the opponents 40 yard line, that's 2 "Hail Mary" attempts. The Cowboys had a real chance and squandered it. I blame Dak Prescott.
Romo also states that the play at 26:26 will work when Nantz says: "I don't think this is gonna work out." But Romo corrects him and says: "It will." If you watch closely, the Center actually snatches the ball from Dak and places it down. Also, 14 seconds from the 40 yard line is one hail mary attempt or one throw away/sideline pass and then a hail mary. You would not have enough time to run a hail mary without all 14 seconds coming off the clock before the ball is declared dead if it was incomplete. 14 penalties is the reason the Cowboys lost, not the final drive.
@@drpillsbury3962 I have never understood someone blaming penalties that happened prior to a blown play where the team still had a reasonable chance. If you are gonna spot Dallas penalties, then why can SF get spotted their prior game changing blunders? And if both get redos, where doe that leave the game? 1) Did Zak know at any point to attempt to run from the 45 yd line (shotgun) to the endzone would be a statistically bad play bec if he got tackled the game would be over. So statistically, he has to try 2 plays. Running 20 yds vs 15 yds did nothing to increase the chances of the next play but drastically reduced the chances of the next play ever occurring. He should have went down 5 yds before. Totally on Zak.
Not exactly. The ref should've spotted it back at the 26 or 25.5 yard line, where Dak first dropped down. They spent all that time measuring, reviewing, remeasuring, deliberating over Deebo's run to spot it within the inch, and yet rushed and blew off the need for accuracy BY ALMOST TWO YARDS on that last play. The play should've ended in the process of the refs moving the ball way back to where it should've been, without even time for the snap at all. That's ALL on Dak.
We’ve seen highlights of guys being aware of that specific point. Especially recently w/Pitt’s Claypool. Larry Fitz has done it on numerous occasions and when the Claypool thing happened there were a few diff vid’s popping up on social media showing the difference between guys like Claypool and Fitz. (IMO folks were a little harsh on Claypool, it was dumb but people were going bananas saying he should be cut.) You’d think teams would cover it over and over, for instance the way you see return guys knowing sometimes to step OB and touch kickoff when they can to exploit that rule. Had they had it ready for the ref to take it they would’ve had time. Either Dak hands it to ref or more commonly guys will give it to the center who stands there ready to hand it to ref. Sucks for them. They already got lucky a few times tho. The 10 sec runoff then playclock going to 25 gave them an extra 5 sec. (on deebo’s 3rd down carry) Not a conspiracy, just lucky that that’s the rule.
Same ref wouldnt let them snap the ball after the fake punt on the previous drive, costing them a 5 yard delay of game penalty. Seems sus to me personally but whatever. I did love the crying fans at the end there...
@@michaedove3562 u could argue that one was more along the lines of a judgement call. But rules are rules and the ref certainly wasn’t in the wrong. The substitution rule is clear. If u watch teams like the packers or bucs u see Rodgers and Brady bitching at the refs for giving the other teams too long to get their subs in. If u get cute and wait too long to bring your own in it can bite ya, which is exactly what happened. Let’s not forget the refs did Cowboys a favor by not ejecting Parsons early on when he punched Aiyuk (right in front of the ref) and Gregory punch/push on Deebo. On the Gregory instance I wouldn’t doubt they let it slide because of all the other times in the game they were called for penalties (that were clear penalties)

With 4 seconds left on the clock I thought that Dak and the Cowboys' Offensive Line did a good job of preventing the official from quickly spotting the ball. Who knew that the Cowboys could not spot their own ball and had to rely on the officials?? It just happens on every play of every NFL Game that I've ever seen.
@@carlfrye1566 Dallas knew this and had practiced this for the entire season, 18 weeks. What everyone is forgetting right here is that Dallas had time, plenty of time and its's why the did it. The ref who spotted the ball sets up 15 yards behind the play. He's supposed to move when the play goes. He does it to catch holding and other penalties. Again, that's only 15 yards. On the overhead shot, you can see that he's still WAYYY back at the DALLAs 45 when Dak slides. That's 30 yards away. Why? Why has he moved with the play. Now, when he finally moves, he gets there in right at 5 seconds. From the Dallas 45. Had he moved with the play, he gets there and doesn't need to run through the line that's waiting for him as they have practiced with other referre crews in their practices. Bad play? Not if you've practiced it for 18 weeks. Only this time, the ref, for whatever reason, did not move until it was too late. Also they were so undisciplined it was embarrassing. As a Cowboys fan, I'll admit I've defended them before when I shouldn't have, but this has no excuse.

@@mtk530 because he has consistently made the same mistakes since he first joined SF.
He's an average QB and makes dumb mistakes at costly times.

Thank you so much for pointing this out. It’s like all Cowpoke fans thinks the ref cost them the game. First of all he didnt, and second of all they still had one low percentage chance to make a touchdown. It’s not like Dak had been playing well so no guarantees.
I am an LSU fan. Letting the opponent have that ONE play, idk, that brings up some memories.
Just a terrible play call. And if you are dumb enough to run it, Dak HAS to get to the sideline on that! You can’t run it up the gut and hope you clock it quickly enough to get ONE play off. That should have been a 3-play sequence that you had practiced ahead of time,
Just a sad sack coaching performance.

Dak starts sliding at the 26 (on a freeze frame it really looks like he started sliding at the 27 but let's call it 26 to be fair), he slides all the way to the 22 ish yard, the Cowboys then proceed to spot the ball at the 23 1/2, ref sees this and tries to move the ball back a bit, he moves it back to the 24 1/2 (really should have been moved back to the 26), the Cowboys center then RE-SPOTS the ball at the 24 because if the Line of Scrimmage is the 24 1/2 then they would all be offside.

Who cares, I hate the cowboys as much as the next guy but let the man root for his team.
Racist.
@@mas5867 What…
Romo also states that the play at 26:26 will work when Nantz says: "I don't think this is gonna work out." But Romo corrects him and says: "It will." If you watch closely, the Center actually snatches the ball from Dak and places it down.
He would have known prior to the snap that the 30 yd line was the farthest he should run.
The referee did exactly what was required. The Cowboys know the rulebook. They blew it with a really stupid play call. The Cowboys always blow it.

The fact that we had 1:42 on the clock and still gave the ball to Cowboys towards the end… that’s one thing we need to work on most definitely

Plus, if you see Dak slide, he starts sliding before the 25, about the 27... But hey, you can now spot it where you end the slide I guess
@@Daniel-dz4cw The ball is supposed to be spotted where the slide begins.
The QB, at least, should know. Every offensive player should know.
Yes, it's a matter of seconds and Dallas, if you look at it, was set and ready to go.
@@noeltaylor3594 All of this could have been condensed into "Blame the refs!!" 😂😂😂 Regardless of how far back the ref was, what does any of that have to do with Dak thinking he can spot his own damn ball like he was playing 3 on 3 football in somebody's backyard?
Blood pressure higher this week then last week..... what a game....go niners
yep
Last week was worse imo. We had to play from behind, not ahead, in that matchup.
Romo was incredible in his announcing. It was as if he could see into the future... if only he had been that good as a Quarterback but he was a product of the JJ system...

it was a great play. just had to get down at the 30 not the 25 and easily that spike is within time
@@Tmac0486
How is it worth the risk?
"Well called", but piss poorly executed.
@@Tmac0486 - It was horrible play call. They still need a hail mary at the end. Who cares if it's 10 yards more?
@Tom D bc they knew it was free yards with a sideline stack defense. Again tho poorly executed. Dak needed to go down a few yards sooner. They even said they practice this over and over. Just failed to get it right which was basically thr story of the game for Dallas

@@jayyking6161 Cowboys offensive line blocked the ref who had to shove players so he can get through and then he had to adjust the spot. What's the difference between Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys?
Tony Romo is advancing to the next round.
Hot take: the qb draw wasn’t a bad play call, dak just had to slide earlier or give the ball to the ref sooner instead of his center. He executed it very poorly. Either way I’m happy as a niners fan but damn that game was close
You sound like a cowhoe fan
It was a bad play call with 14 seconds left. Too many things could go wrong. Instead, they could have run an out pattern to pick up some yards or even taken two shots at the end zone. If there was 30 seconds left then yeah, maybe take that chance because you know there will be time for at least two plays afterwards.
Close but it shouldn't have been , Jimmy G again falling apart when they needed him the most. Thank the Football gods for hating the D Cowboys! 🤣🤣🤣
that isn’t a hot take. it’s the correct take. i blame it all on dak for the game awareness in that situation. it wasn’t the refs fault, rules are rules.

Pure genius by Dallas coach, QB and OC. QB draw from the 40 with 14 seconds. No one else could be that stupid. They must have bet against themselves or something.
Agree. Stupidiest call and if that is not enough, terrible execution
#cowboyshouldofthrownit#
I saw him take off and I started to celebrate I was like wtf is he doing just giving us the win ahahaha
I'm getting the feeling that maybe it was Dak that made that call. He probably didn't see anyone open so took it upon himself not realizing how stupid and costly that would be. They were in no huddle so most likely Dak called his own number.
It was a botched play. That ref was supposed to follow Dak so he can align the ball.
Good luck 49ers fans. Jimmy G drives me crazy everytime I watch him play
He need to go to Brady school of clutch moment now I know why he lost to chiefs
The guy is 31-14 since 2017, and 49ers are 8-28 without Jimmy since 2017.
@@thecensoredmuscle563 Might be true but they also have always tried to minimize his involvement as much as possible. He nearly gagged this game away singlehandedly. I have been a Cowboys fan since 1980. My fav qb of all time is and has always been Danny White. As of today, I resign the Cowboys not because I quit, but because there’s better things in life to invest my emotions in. Upon further review I decided to spot the ball exactly 1 inch behind the line of gain, we will re measure. WTF. There was not enough evidence to respot that ball especially with that precision.

Clear and obvious. They should use advanced sensors in the balls to determine exactly where they are, but until the NFL uses real tech that was an absurd review.
