    The takeaway is there is no write or wrong answer. Just remember having this many HT's is not hoarding, it's not an addiction...it's diversity. Excellent video again Ape! Oh instead of a cold one I grabbed a hot cup of coffee but I digress. 73

    Wow I guess I didn’t realize the offsets were standardized like that, so having a radio that automatically detect them for repeaters... that’s a really cool prospect 🤔

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, modern radios will detect when a frequency is part of the band plan as a repeater frequency and depending upon what it is what the offset should be 👍

    I had a rebranded Baofeng clone which claims to be a high power hand held but everything indicated otherwise like most chinese radios are, I will definitely buy the Yaesu superheterodyne in the future as it's just miles a head of a competitively priced Baofeng.

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  4 года назад

      Yeah, the amount of fake or counterfeit Baofengs is something to be concerned about, good point 👍

      @@TheSmokinApe I can understand that. I keep wanting to buy more, but have resisted. The BTech, a few Baofengs and the VX-7r are all I need in the way of HT's..( i was looking for that triband after this vid, but forced myself to leave it alone..lol)

  • @bradh6185
    @bradh6185 2 года назад

    I just got my license. I had already bought three radios- a BTech tri-band for the third band, an FT60 because I wanted one analog only radio and one that is considered a standard or tried and true, and a Yaesu FT3D for digital capability. The FT60 feels so much better in the hand than the others by the way. I bought an antenna for each radio. Learning how to program and use them will no doubt keep me busy for a while. Sounds like I need to go ahead and get a DMR radio. way. Is there anything I should be doing other than programming in my local repeaters? Obviously there is quite a bit more to do with the FT3D. I plan to learn the FT60 first.

    • @TheSmokinApe

      I'd start with local repeaters and then look at a MMDVM hot spot.

    An unrelated question. I recently purchased a Baofeng A58 HT. I programmed MURS freq's which are 5 Watts. I can set the A58 to 5 W, which is the high power setting on the A58, but when I turn the radio off, it defaults back to the low power setting when I turn the radio on. Is there a setting for this?

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  3 года назад

      The power setting should stay with the channel settings if you set it in Chirp. I’m not familiar with the A58 so I’m not sure about that radio.
