  • Until 25 July 2021, Haus der Kunst in Munich presents a major retrospective of the work of British sculptor Phyllida Barlow. Curated by Damian Lentini, the exhibition features key pieces from several of Phyllida Barlow’s ground-breaking exhibitions over the past two decades, several new site-specific works, and a vast selection of works on paper.
Phyllida Barlow is best known for her large installations for which she uses everyday materials such as timber, cardboard, cement, clay, plastic pipes, and colorful textiles. In 2017 she represented Great Britain at the Venice Art Biennale.
This video provides you with an exhibition walkthrough and an interview with Damian Lentini, who talks about the artist and her work.

An everyday object such as a sun umbrella or a building material such as a sewer pipe or a transport object such as a pallet. But all somehow dysfunctioning. Some installations are reminiscent of religious temples, surrealist landscapes or mythical buildings.

The world is not a bed of roses; it's a dirty place, a cruel place, that doesn't care how tough you are. It will bring you to your knees and you will be on your knees forever if you let it. You, me, no one is going to hit as hard as life, but it's not about hitting hard. It's about how much you can take it and keep going, how much can you take and keep trying. That's how you can win.
Now if you know your worth, then go after what you deserve, but you have to be prepared to catch. And no pointing fingers, saying you can't do it because of him or her, or anyone else. Only cowards do that and you're not a coward, you're better than that.

You flatter me, I'm only slightly better than that. Take the items at 7:45, and the encounters between the objects, the bodies and the space (like the man said). All it needs is a smelly dog on it, & it'll be the spitting image of my living room.
