  • Quick run around our back garden, looking at all the different bamboos that are planted
Just for fun and made for the Bamboo UK Facebook group
Lots of plants don’t have names, just a mix of letters and numbers
Those plants are Borindas and most were collected from the Himalayan region in the late 90’s and early 2000’s by Chris Stapleton and Keith Rushforth. So the plants start with the collectors initials, followed by a collection number eg CS1046, KR7613
Some have names such as Borinda papyrifera or Borinda macclureana, but not many and there is still some ID work to be done
Took me ages to get it right and I ended up out of breath, got it all in, in just under 6 minutes

      Hi, thanks for the comment
      The numbers are collection numbers
A lot of Borinda were collected in the late 90’s, early 2000’s by Chris Stapleton and Keith Rushforth, so the numbers of the plants they collected start with their initials and then a number, for example CS1046, which is also known as Borinda papyrifera and KR4059, also known as Borinda frigida, but most don’t have names, just a collection number
It’s not possible to create new species unless they flower which is not very often
