  • Tintagel Village Cornwall England | A full 4K walking tour of Tintagel Village said to be the birthplace of King Arthur. We take a look around to see what's here!
Also watch our tour of Tintagel Castle - • TINTAGEL CASTLE CORNWA...
We paid a visit to Tintagel Village situated near Port Isaac and Padstow on the west coast of Cornwall to take a look around at the buildings, cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops to see what life is like in the village in 2021.
Tintagel has so much to explore from King Arthur's Great Halls to the Tintagel Old Post Office building, a medieval farmhouse that is now a popular (and Grade II protected) tourist attraction in it's own right.
When you visit Tintagel Village make sure to park your car in one of the village carparks and then walk down into the main part of the village and then spend a few hours visiting the castle and Merlins Cave, and having a wander round the shops in the village.
    King Arthur's Great Halls
King Arthur's Great Halls at Tintagel was built by a romantic millionaire in the 1930s at enormous expense. These vast halls tell the story of King Arthur and his knights. Robert Powell narrates the fascinating story utilising laser lights and sound. See the imposing granite throne and the legendary round table whilst marvelling at the world famous stained glass windows.
    The Old Post Office
Tintagel Old Post Office is a fine example of a medieval building and is located in the heart of the village. It is a time capsule of true historical value and character. The buildings quirky layout makes it a joy to explore. The Old Post Office sits in well maintained gardens and is a must see on a sunny summer day
    Tintagel Castle
At the lower end of the village you will find a steep track that passes down through the Vale of Avalon to the legendary site that is known world wide as King Arthur's Castle and at the castles very roots Merlin's Cave awaits you. The church of St Materiana out on the headland is but a stones throw from the castle and from this point you get a magnificent view of the coast.
    Castle Cove
The beach at the foot of Castle Island is called Castle Cove. It is a very sheltered cove. The beach is mainly shingle,. There are several caves to be explored when the tide is low. Merlins Cave is located on this beach and if you look carefully you will see a recent carving of His face to the left of the cave entrance. Also, within Merlins cage, there is a smugglers hide away.
In season Tintagel Village is a bustling hive of activity and as benefited enormously from a facelift. There are many gift shops and fine eating establishments that can be found along the way. At the top of the village you will find the visitors centre. If you arrive at Tintagel from the Trebarwith / Camelford direction the first Arthurian sight that you see has you enter is the Hall of Chivalry, well worth a visit. Turn left here to venture into the heart of the village where ample parking can be found. From here it is a short walk to St Materiana's, the Norman church that stands proudly on the headland overlooking the castle of King Arthur.

The Old Post office is a brilliant place to look around in, it’s old and rickety of course..but fascinating. I love being in Cornwall and proud to call it home.

Thankfully we used to visit Tintagel in the 60s and 70s, a time when the village's truer character could be seen; the days when 'Billy' boy used to drive his cattle down the street from field to farm.

I could picture the farmer herding his cattle. Fairly contained in the narrow streets and the lovely looking buildings.

What a beautiful town. Thanks for this.
That King Arthur museum looks like it used to be a Masonic temple.
Noisy, stinky Harleys. Remind me why some people seem to like them.

We’ve watched your recent walks but not commented as we’ve never visited the recent places, until this one.
Our 49th wedding anniversary was last Thursday, September 23rd. our honeymoon was a tour round the West Country using recommended hotels my parents had stayed in previously that summer.
September 23rd. was in a local weeks holiday called Honley Feast, it had the added advantage that it was half way through the tax year and you could then claim back a full year’s tax from the previous April, as canny Yorkshire folk my parents, my wife’s parents and several aunts and uncles also married on the 23rd and 24th of September.
We visited Tintagel and I have a photo of the old rickerty Post Office exactly like the one you had in your video, I seem to think back then it was the Museum of Witchcraft or something to do with the Green Man but memory fades over the years, I did try and enlarge my photo but as it was from 35 mm slide film and before the digital age the signs were unreadable.
