If you're referring to Uber eats, it's because they often drive miles for pocket change, so the tip goes into the pay out which incentivizes them to click "accept" to take the order.

Kinda pisses me off that the customers are paying more when they tip and I mean Grubhub is basically just taking the tip by paying us less when they tip. One of my normal guys tipped me $10 and Grubhub base pay paid me $2 instead of the normal $12 they would have paid me if he didn't tip at all... Not cool at all to do that to customers

I went in to Little Caesar's a few months ago to get a couple Hot n Ready pizzas. Swiped my card, and the screen asked how much I'm tipping. Flabbergasted, I looked up at the girl working behind the counter, and politely told her the machine malfunctioned. She showed me how to change it to zero. I just recently found out that they actually were expecting a tip for walking into the store and getting a hot n ready sitting on the shelf. I still can't believe it.

They don't do this because it would raise prices even more than they already are and these massive corporations are focused on squeezing as much profits out of people as possible. Eating out in the US is literally 2-3x more expensive than what it was 10 years ago now. A $5 sandwich from Subway is now $15.

The answer is simple. Be the change you want to see in the world. So stop tipping. You stop tipping because you want workers to get a fair wage from the company. Your battle is against the company not the worker. The people behind this understand human psychology and meticulously design these systems to manipulate us. The guilt tripping is part of it. Almost all of our economic struggles boil down to the fact that average people simply don't make enough money. Now, the obvious answer to that is "workers should be paid more", but how we get to that point requires multiple broad societal changes to shift the economy into one that is less geared towards corporations making greater profits year over year, and more geared towards making the majority of American citizens able to power the economy themselves. We can tax corporations and the wealthy more, we can make labor unions strong again, and we could even implement universal basic income. There are all kinds of ways to build a healthier, more egalitarian economy. Just need to fight harder for it as the people standing in the way get old and die.
I agree with most of what you said. Except for the bit about unions. Labor unions, when first instituted to protect the safety of workers, solved a dangerous problem at the time. They outlived their usefulness, however, when they became riddled with corruption and employees started demanding ridiculous perks like their birthdays off (🙄). The corrupt unions are the reason that most factories moved to off shore, Union free, manufacturing facilities. I watched it happen, first hand, in the garment industry in the 70’s. So…along with moving the production to other countries…the jobs went, too. Before unions made manufacturing impossible to accomplish in the US, there were plenty of jobs…on all levels…throughout the US. People felt better about themselves when they had jobs with benefits they could be confident about. We are now at a place where people are constantly struggling mentally and financially…a great percentage of young people do not have benefits with their jobs. They have minimum wage jobs that they can’t be proud of. Corporations give them silly ‘titles’ like ‘Pet Specialist’ (Petsmart shelf stocker) to pacify their need for adulation, rather than giving them benefits. They are coerced into accepting the health plans that the government forces them to have. Look at the big picture here. Labor unions are not the answer.
@@darkphoenix2 Unfortunately unions are easily corrupted. If companies had decent mission statements, that they stuck to, unions wouldn’t get a foot hold.
You make people wealthy by having sound money and getting out of the way of the private economy to allow it to unleash its productivity. Not by more centralized power and redistribution, which is susceptible to corruption. The natural state of the economy is falling prices and widely spread wealth. The reason we don't have that is because of the very government intervention that you think is the solution. Corporate power is much less dangerous than government power because transactions with them are voluntary.
I live in a country in Europe and here we actually give tips with pleasure, because they are not forced at all, by the bartenders. Usually you just have a can/a cup where you can throw some cash, and that is about it. Of course, it is more elegant in premium restaruants, but I don't normally go to such places, so I can only imagine. lol Basically, I think tipping is a very intuitive thing. I don't really believe in regulatons, laws etc. concerning this topic. I do believe spreading awareness that tipping is okay is the most we can do. Do tip, people! That is what you would want too, if you were on the other side of the counter!
BRAH I work in a hospital and I run a Starbucks BY MYSELF, and I dont ask for tips ever... people just leave them because I have good customer service and go above and beyond... it really depends on the person. No ONE deserves a tip. THEY earn it. from the kindness of people. end of story.
I went on vacation in the USA and we drove through a couple of states for three weeks and I felt the tipping culture was so out of control I felt like I was getting scammed left right and center. I’m never going to the USA for vacation again.
im so sorry . i feel a little responsible for this. i started tipping heavier when picking up coffees because i never go out to eat at restaraunts. i want to,get in,get out. you made that possible, thank you so much $$. those were the brass tacks.

It would be really interesting if some restaurants did an experiment by paying their workers enough and putting up a big sign that says "no tip needed because we pay fairly". I think that kind of approach could start a movement from the other side and remove some of the guilt people feel not tipping and knowing what they're paying for the meal is actually fair.
I don' t think it goes to blame the mom and pop restaurants or even food trucks fault. I believe the blame goes to the companies distributing the food. They rake in the most amount cash for themselves leaving the rest down the line scraping from each other. Big business get's away with too much inflated price models. But you can't ignore the inflation the past 4 years..*cough. Which therefore inclines the rich business shareholders/owners wanting to makeup for the lost value of their mega profits. Then the merry go around goes around and around...
Dining in: 20% Takeout: 10% Coffee/Drinks: $1 per drink Everything else: no tip unless service is exceptional or someone goes out of their way to be helpful
Tips have always been acknowledgement of gratitude for a service performed well. The percentage should be based on how well the service was performed. Remove the tip; remove the incentive to do well at the job. Do a crap job, get a crap prize. Do the job well, get the 20-25%. Do little to nothing, get little to nothing.
As a barista, I think you should tip if you’re getting a complicated beverage and want specific things added and specific steps. If you just want a drip coffee or a pastry then don’t tip. But tipping at dispensaries and smoke shops and things like that is wild. For servers and delivery drivers I think it goes without saying that you should tip.
Hi, citizen of a civilized country here. We found a solution to this problem a long, long time ago: The employers pay the employees a livable wage, and tips are an optional extra for great service. That's it, thank you for coming to my TED talk.
If you’re tipping at a coffee shop, it’s probably a pool which means they all share the total amount of tips.. since somebody is actually making the drinks, and someone is working the cashier, it’s only fair they get tipped. Kinda like tipping a bartender making your drinks/taking your order
How does this channel manage to find normal people? Other channels must cherry pick crazy people takes to get people talking but that isn't what most of the people are like.
Tipping is optional. I saw videos of door dash and uber eats drivers complaining about getting no tips but they had the CHOICE of accepting the job or not. Even as a waitress you had the choice of accepting the job before getting hired. So you knew what you were getting into. If you're not happy because you don't get tips go find another job. Life is tough enough with prices going up and uncle sam getting his cut out of my check every week.
We give out hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars to other countries, but our citizens are so broke we rely on one impoverished person to pay extra money to another impoverished person because our hourly wage is too low and none of us can get any financial help.
I don't tip to pay their wages, I tip for good service. So only when a service is provided and it's not in proportion to what I ordered. Why should the tip be any different if I order soup vs steak?
"Tipping is necessary" says the only country on earth where it's habitually practiced. The solution is conceptually really simple. Consumers just need to stop tipping and put the pressure back on the actual employer. This argument of "they only get paid $2 an hour" is only half the story. If an employee's tips aren't enough to meet their set wage, then the employer is obligated by federal law to pay the remainder. And boy does the restaurant industry love this system they've lobbied for. "But if we don't tip, the prices will go up!" Newsflash, you're already paying for those higher prices, you just love the illusion of lower menu prices.
I almost always tip 20% even at places where ppl don’t. Like I’d tip Taco Bell if there was an option. I should mention I’m a bartender. If I’m at an actual restaurant or bar I tend to tip upwards of 20%. However DoorDash, often will have items missing. Not their fault but if you follow the process to dispute a charge for a missing item they sometimes only refund 30% of the cost. And their suggestions are based on the cost after all the fees and taxes. 20% of $30 worth of food is not $8.50. Also…if I didn’t get tips I would not bartend. Ppl don’t realize how hard that is.
Regarding 5:05 - Lady, if the owner pays the employee more prices also need to go up, then it is absolutely your responsibility to pay more. We don't need higher wages that just further increases prices, we need a whole crap ton less govt intervention and inflation causing the value of the dollars we have to drop like a rock
I think all of the demands for tipping…and the obvious entitlements held by the people receiving the tips, has reached it’s dangerous peak. There is no place to go but down. European countries do not allow tipping and we will soon follow that rule. Corporations should be required to pay a decent wage to their employees. AND ALL CORPORATIONS ( not small businesses)…should be required to give their employees enough work hours to receive benefits. Corporations skirt that issue by being sure to limit the hours that an employee works. This needs to change. An employee becomes happier and more responsible if they are being compensated according to their work. They will want to do better. No one should need multiple minimum wage jobs in order to get by. And it shouldn’t be up to the customer to make up the difference.
i don't think shilling for a mental health company which used to sell personal data to social media companies like Meta/Facebook (without the users knowledge or permission) is the best way to go forward, lahwf...
Corportate places like starbucks i cant stand being asked to tip. but a small mom and pop i enjoy it. especially places i frequently go to and know the tips goes to locals in my area. most are young college students. if i got it that day ill give it.
higher wages = higher prices therefor would cancel out the gratuity. tipping is a way to keep prices low and keep the customer paying as much as they want
It’s squeezing a balloon either way. If wages are forced to be higher, we pay more for the product/service as the price will increase. At least with tipping, servers are incentivized to provide good service. If they don’t provide it, we can save on not tipping them.
Higher wages is just going to make prices go up. Business owners are going to pass the higher wages on to the consumer which means everything goes up and the higher wages accomplish nothing
With increasing costs it's a nice gesture to tip a few dollars. But asking for a tip from the customer is wrong because then it's basically begging money.
We need a law/policy that does not allow businesses to *ask* for tips in any way. that means nothing on the check, no screen popping up asking what % you want to tip, and no tip jars. it should be illegal to do that and then i believe we can see change for the better. vote for me 2025
ngl I clicked this because of the hot girl in the thumbnail, and I stayed because of Andrew's personality, but I wouldn't have clicked it if it was just for his personality.
The only reason we tip servers in the US is because they make less than minimum wage. I don’t tip everyone at Home Depot or 7/11 anytime I go in there. Why would it be any different at a Chickfila
its nice when you check out and there is not a question to ask you to tip. But i like to tip but not when i know when i what i tip before they make my food or drink
Restaurants kept tipping culture ever since the Great Depression probably because it still works out fine and the restaurant still succeeds without having to invest more into their employees
I am German and I like our tipping culture. Employees have decent wages and when the service was shit they get 0%. When it was normal or okay 10% and for anything higher I definitely expect a very very good service, which does NOT mean asking me stupid question every 3 minutes.

Great video idea! I don't like tipping because too many customers are unfair and inconsiderate.
I went on vacation in the USA and we drove through a couple of states for three weeks and I felt the tipping culture was so out of control I felt like I was getting scammed left right and center. I’m never going to the USA for vacation again.
Which states did you go to?
im so sorry . i feel a little responsible for this. i started tipping heavier when picking up coffees because i never go out to eat at restaraunts. i want to,get in,get out. you made that possible, thank you so much $$. those were the brass tacks.
the last guy seemed so chill

excelsior!
Andrew is my spirit animal
It would be really interesting if some restaurants did an experiment by paying their workers enough and putting up a big sign that says "no tip needed because we pay fairly".
I think that kind of approach could start a movement from the other side and remove some of the guilt people feel not tipping and knowing what they're paying for the meal is actually fair.
I never feel bad for not tipping. Waitresses/waiters and pizza is all I tip for.
5:40 Daddy found love ot4y ot4y ✊🏼✊🏼
The thing is, if servers get paid higher wages, food cost will go waaaay up. So everyone will still not be happy lol
The guy whose hair he fixed strongly reminded me of mitch hedberg
I only tip at a sit down restaurant. No for everything else.
6:24 baby goose. cute
Dining in: 20%
Takeout: 10%
Coffee/Drinks: $1 per drink
Everything else: no tip unless service is exceptional or someone goes out of their way to be helpful
What about the constant donation screens on top of all the tipping, it’s out of control.
I thought of American Beauty too!!!
Hi, citizen of a civilized country here.
We found a solution to this problem a long, long time ago:
The employers pay the employees a livable wage, and tips are an optional extra for great service.
That's it, thank you for coming to my TED talk.
what about cow tipping?
Glad to see you’re back man
If you’re tipping at a coffee shop, it’s probably a pool which means they all share the total amount of tips.. since somebody is actually making the drinks, and someone is working the cashier, it’s only fair they get tipped. Kinda like tipping a bartender making your drinks/taking your order
Good interview ❤️❤️
leave the poor bee alone andrew!!
Andrew, keep on keeping on!
How does this channel manage to find normal people? Other channels must cherry pick crazy people takes to get people talking but that isn't what most of the people are like.
Nearly every person interviewed was featured in the video. Anyone left out was due to video length. We have some pretty sane people in Nashville tbh 🧐
Life is tough enough with prices going up and uncle sam getting his cut out of my check every week.
im so glad to live in New Zealand, no tipping here at all :-)
We give out hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars to other countries, but our citizens are so broke we rely on one impoverished person to pay extra money to another impoverished person because our hourly wage is too low and none of us can get any financial help.
do you feel lonely being one of the very few people who actually has a functioning brain?
Yeah socialism tends to do that. Trump 2024
We don't need higher wages that just further increases prices, we need a whole crap ton less govt intervention and inflation causing the value of the dollars we have to drop like a rock
i dont have much to say but i thought i should let you know andrew that i watched fight club for the first time. its a really good movie.
Who cares? He's securing the bag, mans gotta eat. Formulate your own opinion, ignore the shill, just part of the process
Corportate places like starbucks i cant stand being asked to tip. but a small mom and pop i enjoy it. especially places i frequently go to and know the tips goes to locals in my area. most are young college students. if i got it that day ill give it.
og video as always. you the man
higher wages = higher prices therefor would cancel out the gratuity. tipping is a way to keep prices low and keep the customer paying as much as they want
Wow the blue rays were popping
With increasing costs it's a nice gesture to tip a few dollars. But asking for a tip from the customer is wrong because then it's basically begging money.
We need a law/policy that does not allow businesses to *ask* for tips in any way. that means nothing on the check, no screen popping up asking what % you want to tip, and no tip jars. it should be illegal to do that and then i believe we can see change for the better. vote for me 2025
ngl I clicked this because of the hot girl in the thumbnail, and I stayed because of Andrew's personality, but I wouldn't have clicked it if it was just for his personality.
Gotcha! 🙌🏼
damn that's a nice cat
The only reason we tip servers in the US is because they make less than minimum wage. I don’t tip everyone at Home Depot or 7/11 anytime I go in there. Why would it be any different at a Chickfila
i thought it would be a video about people tripping
its nice when you check out and there is not a question to ask you to tip. But i like to tip but not when i know when i what i tip before they make my food or drink
Great vid as always, can you do a "People on Tripping" next? Shaka brah 🤙
