1 Corinthians 9: 16-19, 22-23; Mark 1: 29-39.
The readings for the 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B, speak both of the suffering people’s cry for help and God answering them through the compassionate ministry of Jesus.
The first reading from the book of Job presents us with the profound suffering that Job endured. He compares his days to those of a hired worker, longing for the night to come to find some relief from his pain. It reminds us of the reality of human suffering and how it can often leave us feeling overwhelmed and despairing. We can resonate with Job's cry in our own lives when faced with struggles. We too may question God's plan and wonder why we must endure hardship.
