Just a straight stitch! It doesn’t really need to be stretched when worn so there weren’t any issues! If it was needing stretched then I would do the zig zag or another stretch stitch!
No I don’t usually have an issue with it! If it was a crotch placket or something with more use/pulling I would add interfacing or a strip of woven fabric inside the band while sewing! I also have found that plastic snaps are less likely to rip fabric than metal snaps!

what do you use for the flap with the button is it bias?
Yes! I just used bias tape! It was a double fold so it was pretty thick, but you could also use twill tape or other woven ribbon materials!
