Hi Hilary, handy video but is there a reason why you stand in front of your tank in every edition blocking the view ? It looks awkward when you’re addressing areas of the tank by pointing behind you without turning around 🤔
I should probably do some of those things. I haven’t touched the return pump since the aquarium was installed 5 1/2 years ago. My lights get a little shocky if I touch them wrong. I should probably unplug them and take them apart.
Common sense recommendations many hobbyists ignore until there’s a problem. I would add, that if you’re doing maintenance on the return pump, especially if you’ve put the pump in soak for 2>3 hours, you need to put a heater into the display, the tank’s inhabitants will survive without the sumps filtration, but won’t without maintaining the temperature.
I once forgot to unplug the heater in my 25 gallon and it took almost 18 hours to drop from 78 to 75. Room temp 73-74. For 2-3 hours, you're good, especially in a larger aquarium.
@@ManiacalMangoes appreciate that, but not everyone has a larger system that retains any heat, and the name of the game is consistency and temperature is one of them, I would rather air on the side of caution and not suggest putting one in.

Totally agree 💯👍
Hi Hilary. Smartest Reefer out there.
How often should you disassemble and clean out the down flow diaphragm valve?

Do you run a second return pump whilst cleaning or place heater in the main display please ?
You can do either
