Nice! Its great to see companies like Red Sea continue improving reef equipment. I wish more reef industry companies were more innovative with regards to design improvements. Cheers
And I thought my Octo skimmer was flash with its controller and float valve shut off lol Great to see RedSea continuing the push towards smart reef devices. I’ve been really impressed with my Reefdose
Sorry TbSaysNo for your issues but I have a Red Sea XL525 and the RSK-600 Skimmer and haven't had one issue at all...and I've been doing saltwater tanks for over 18 years now and this has been one of my best investments so far. Im definitely interested in upgrading the skimmer and trying these pumps to unify my system.
I got the email yesterday and was excited but nervous to see the price. I thought it was silly that the Red Sea return and skimmer was NOT controlled on the Reefbeat app
The Sicce DC return pump doesn't seem to be reviewed well anywhere. Seems to be really noisy with most people swapping them out quite quickly. I like what RedSea are doing, but most of their products seem to be rebranded, exsiting items with a bit of Red on them. I like the connectivity, but the app seems to have issues also. I've got a few Reef Factory products, they are a bit of a pain to set up but have been bullet proof for me after that.
Slightly of topic how do you clean your Red Sea wave maker. Although I do clean them they really need a though cleaning. Would i soak it in Citric ACID? If so then it would have to be one at a time for 24 hours? Worried only having one on would upset the tank. It’s only a 250lt but still worried?
I own a Red Sea S Max 500 tank which comes with reef leds and reefer skimmer and I have never had any problems , I replaced the filter socks with the Red Sea ReefMat and also haven’t had any problems , reading on forums when people are having problems with these products ,sorry but most are poorly setup by the purchaser, a very very small percentage are genuine faults, you can say this about many other manufacturers .
Go and feel a D&D or Nyos tank door just the weight will change your mind & RedSea Skimmers are not exactly reef octopus either.. RedSea is the same quality as ReefFactory.. its budget equipment with a marketing lead price, it’s that simple
Every “MANUFACTURER” has its pros and cons ,strong points and weakness’s, I personally don’t have any problems with my S Max doors both are quality made and still looking as good as new after 2 years , my skimmer is working perfect it does have Sicce pump which are world renowned for reliability, but like I say quality issues can creep in and that applies to all.
Recycling the water from my dehumidifier will cause my skimmer to overflow like crazy. I thought why not reuse the water that evaporated from the tank. It’s theoretically 0 TDS so there shouldn’t be any issues. Wrong.
Stupid question from a beginner, is there a possibility to buy the Skimmer & the return pump and connect them to an Neptune Apex Controller? If it works, are there any downsides to that?
I asked BRS about Apex and Red Sea products and they told me the only thing that bayou will be able o with any Red Sea product is be able to turn them on and off with the apex. You wont be able to use the functionality of the Apex with Red Sea products.
Nice video! As always… Two questions . Do you need to buy the controller to operate the skimmer? And does it have a drain hole in the skimmer cup to drain the fish poob into a bottle? Side note. Nice to see, that someone else has the same cable management design😉, I was a bit worried that I am the only one with such perfect cable work 😂😂😂
Great video as always, If you had a reef tank with 400lt would you get the 300 or the 600? I’m buying more and more corals as I go, lps and sps but just interested to know your thoughts?? Thanks.
Oof, I was looking forward to a Reefbeat DC pump for my new setup but at $350 that is kind of a steep price when a comparable for my needs SDC 3.0 is 250. I guess comparing the 5500 to the SDC 6.0 is pretty fair but it kinda feels like right now they forgot about their smaller tank owners. Hopefully they add something like a ReefRun 3000 EDIT: I guess I should have paid closer attention that that last bit, I wonder if that controller will work with the SDC 3.0.
A warning not to buy the new DC pump and skimmer. Having watched this very informative video (particularly the price break if you add the return pump), I purchased the DC skimmer and return pump. Once installed on a brand new clean system, it worked for about 2 days before either the skimmer or return pump would fail. You get a message: "The pump stalled and has been disabled, which would occur on either pump. Often, it thought the pump was running, but it was not. Not having a skimmer was bad enough (helping with PH on a new system), but a failed return pump was a critical failure. I got onto my LFS, and they could not assist as Red Sea insists it is all done via them, who in turn was pretty useless and kept asking to delete the app and constant requests for videos of it running (duh!). In the end the retailer has agreed to take it all back as several days in, Red Sea are still making excuses about getting in touch tomorrow with a higher tech support... If I had waited for them, all my livestock would be dead. I have gone for a Deltec 1000i (your other video was very helpful!) and a D-D Return pump that is a Jecod copy/clone.
Think I will stick with my Jecod pump - silent - have 2 - 1 in sump and a spare. Time for a clean - 1 out, c!ean1 in - 2 minutes and no mad rush to clean the dirty pump. Still less than half the price! Deltec skimmer, silent, no app needed and pulls lots of Mrs Reef Dorks fish poo water. PS - Red Sea Reefer owner
@@estebanjc1 I think you've misunderstood - I don't know because I made this video having watched the Red Sea video and I don't own either the skimmer or the pump
Great video but can you convert pounds to U.S dollors. I watch your videos but catch myself quickly going to a conversion chart for liters pounds etc. So not a big deal but alot of your subscribers are in the U.S cheers mate only food for thought. 👍
fair warning to anyone contemplating buying a Red Sea tank. I bought my whole reef tank only in Red Sea products, going over 5000 USD. I have had a lot of problems with them since then. First of all, their reef LED disconnects super easily, and a quick google search shows that this is far from a rare occurrence for other people as well. They say their own wavemakers are silent and should not make any noise. I got two wavemakers, a 25 and a 45, and the 45 is not making that much noise, while the 25 is super noisy. I have had a support ticket with them open for over 4 months and I find that their strategy to not return the product is to keep asking new questions. They asked me for new videos of the noise, a video with a DB calculator, a video of the product out of the water, telling me to dissemble it and reassemble it, take pictures inside it, and the last thing they did was ask for another video of the noise before I gave up and contacted the store I bought it from. please do yourself a favor.
Seems the "Paid Promotion" banner is missing from his video... It appears you still don't understand what is a "PAID" promotion. Did you get the items for free or did you get or expect anything else (money/goods/access/time) for the review which you admit you are....
This isn't a sponsored video - I haven't been given anything for free and I wasn't paid by Red Sea or anyone else. If I ever get free equipment, the first thing I say in the video is "this was given to me for free by x". Red Sea just gave me the marketing details a few days before the public release which I say at 7:37. I've never been given anything for free without expressly saying as much at the start of the video and i'm never vague about it - I make it clear i've been given it for free.
Great I’ll certainly get the pump and skimmer upgrade next year. Gives me faith in a company that offers upgrade kits.
Wow, i didn't think skimmers could get any better. Red sea does it again. And i'm even a huge fan of red sea.
Now they just need to add a battery backup to their lineup.
These are looking pretty awesome.
I'm not a big red sea fan, but right now they are leading the industry.

I sold it - clogged far too easily for my liking. But just soak it in citric acid for 10 mins and give it a good scrub

Should you use braided vinyl tubing or soft silicone tubing for the return pump?
Doesn't matter
I always use soft tubing
A cabinet upgrade next please Red Sea something along the lines of the Cade with aluminium stand /glass doors
Some great piece of kit that for sure . Have you got one yourself ?
Not yet but I should get one next year...

is it wifi ready to use with the app? or do i need to buy something to connect it to the app?
Nothing extra needed, you can just connect straight to it
