From what I read England in Wales nd Ireland are being taken over by the thousands coming in illegally Islam way of living being pushed and Christians and English citizens having almost no rights and are unable to get homes living below a normal expectation. The monarchy should be able to press the government to turn around the invaders and start treating English citizens properly and outlaw the dreadful woke and anti Christian pro Islamic laws etc that seem to have taken over all government areas. I see the RF popping to this and that but it do do not have any rights to straighten out the troubles of the country, love the RF but glad we have not yet fallen so badly in Australia although our government is trying to put the people into bankruptcy I'm worried for the younger generations.

from Australia. Starmer accepted a "sir" title from the monarchy (hypocrite). maybe he should cut back on illegal migrant spending and focus on Britain and it's people. the monarchy and the BRF bring in a lot of tourist dollars to the UK and that filters down to florists, cafes and souvenir shops and others. people go to see the history and the monarchy, not politicians

I'm South African and had the privilege off visiting London as a tourist. The first building I visited was Horse Guards. The Troopers in the ceremonial uniform. and those magnificent horses in the boxes where incredible and the onto Trafalgar square, and finally Buckingham palace. Although I was schlept to other different sites, I will never forget those three places. The architecture of the buildings is beyond stunning. The majority of tourists love everything royal.

I just toured BP and it was a glorious experience! Look, the work is long overdue and simply needs to be done. It is money well spent-which you certainly can’t say about many government programs. Whether or not King Charles lives there afterward makes no difference to the need for the Palace - the country’s State office - and the need for its refurbishment. This silly insistence of Parliament, starting with Churchill insisting on Queen Elizabeth living there, should end.

Why not put the immigrants to work on filling pot holes, cleaning streets, washing buildings or windows or anything to merit public money handouts? Paris is far more visited than London. Rome too has no monarchy but both these cities attract tourism. People come to see the famous buildings such as Cathedrals, museums, art galleries, go to parks, concerts, theatre, opera, ballet, enjoy cultural activities and food etc We'd get the tourism without the monarch just as people visit Hampton Court Palace, Leeds and Warwick Castle etc even though no monarchs have lived there in centuries!

From my American point of view, the Royals bring in so much tourist money, that Sir Keir Starmer should think about what the economy would be like without it. Buckingham Palace is quite a tourist draw as well as the other Royal homes and castles, and other historic sites in London and throughout the country. I also thought that I had heard that there were plans to open Buckingham Palace, or at least part of it, as a kind of museum for history, or Royal history? I think that would be a great idea. Aren’t they starting to do tours now where people can at least look into the room from which the Royals go out onto the balcony for special occasions?

Buckingham Palace is a major tourist attraction, and even if not lived in permanently by a member of the Royal Family its historic interest is the responsibility of the government. When Royals need a London base or foreign dignities are to be entertained it is much cheaper to secure the Palace than try to secure another venue successfully. Its history should be preserved.

The Palace is an historic building. I don't see Starmer et al kicking up a fuss when they're spending billions on the Palace of Westminster. It cost nearly ½ billion to build the Scottish Parliament 25 years ago and they could use any old materials for that.
These old buildings are owned by the nation for future generations to enjoy and they are used to host and impress foreign dignitaries. I honestly think Labour MPs would rather see head of states entertained in a Nissan hut. They have no idea of the soft power our monarch has in the wider world because they are about the politics of envy.

Buckingham Palace is not the seat of government in the UK. . The monarch does not govern, the monarch reigns and is therefire a titular head of state. The Monarchy has no governing power and is quite separate from government. The seat of government is the Houses of Parliament (that ancient building that has that tall big tower at one end, which has huge clock faces, and which is called Big Ben). The UK has a government, elected by the people. The term of office is 5 years. - unless something untoward happens which results in an election being called before the end of the 5 year tenure. I'm guessing you're not UK?

I too am sorry abot tge rude response to your comment. Tgerewas no need for it.
What you are suggesting has already happened several decades ago: the State Apartments in Buckingham Palace were opened up to the public for the first time just after the Windsor fire to help pay for the Windsor Castle restoration and have remained open to visitors during the summer periods when not in use. I should imagine that, if tge King and Queen decide to remain living at Clarence House as their predecessors King William IV and Queen Adelaide did in the 1830s, the sovereign's private apartments in the north wing might be opened up too. The King has already recently opened up rooms in Balmoral Castle which he intends to vacate on a permanent basis as he stays at Birkhall, another property on the estate.
Unlike the Balmoral and Sandringham estates, Highgrove House and a few other residences in various parts of the UK, the royal palaces (Windsor, Buckingham Palace, Hillsborough Castle and Holyroodhouse) are not the King's private property and belong to the State.

The money from the crown estates pays for the upkeep of Buckingham Palace it is not from PAYA, VAT or Business rates. I would also like you to look into changes planned for the crown estate. To clarify the expense of BP is coming from the Crown Estate investments. I believe they’re taking from 5-10% of the income and allocating it to refurbishment. So it’s only coming from the public purse in the sense it’s monies not being given to the government to spend. BP is used for state affairs, housing government officials and visiting officials. The work being done will benefit the government in terms of tours, events and housing people whether or not the King occasionally stays there. We currently have to put visiting foreign dignitaries and diplomats as well as our own officials up at hotels because BP is unavailable. There were also people who refused to stay there because it was so cold and had poor electricity and WiFi.

Buckingham Palace belongs to the nation. It is much better as a Museum and site for State Events than as a residence for any family in the Internet Age. The British people can certainly afford the restoration and maintenance of Buckingham Palace, an iconic edifice that in many ways embodies the British State much more concisely, in visual terms, than rather dreary Nº10. The Present is a product of All of Human History, and British history encompasses everything from Stonehenge to the British Museum to Leicester Square. It is incumbent upon advanced societies to showcase, encourage and teach Respect for History to their successors. The Monarch should certainly be allowed to live wherever he or she prefers! It's a difficult full-time job that often even robs them of their sleep. They cannot, as you or I can, choose their own bedtime or wake-up time, or even the city they are going to wake up in, on any given morning. Already, the Royal yacht Britannia was taken away from the Monarchy! Don't start being cheapskates over Buckingham Palace, that obviously also creates jobs and stimulates the economy, as well as bringing in revenue from tourism. After all, the Windsor-Mountbatten (Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) Dynasty is merely this particular generation of the Hannoverian Dynasty. And there may be some future dynasty you have no inkling of yet! (No, not Meg's!!!!) Whereupon Buckingham Palace will become their responsibility - and thus the claim that the British Royal Family, or the Crown Estate, should be the sole managing funder& landlord of Buckingham Palace and its gardens is completely misguided. It is part of the National Patrimony. Chip in, and be gracious about it.

If they live in Buckingham palace, then people will complain about upkeep of the other palaces.
People want a monarchy, but they want them to live without expenditure and get upset when they have more than the average person. That's part and parcel with being royal!
People forget how important their centuries old legacy, history and tradition is and also forget how much they bring in in tourism.
If Buckingham palace is run down, people won't be as interested, and it's a heritage building and therefore needs to be kept up.
As for no one wanting to live there, i think it's mainly because it's in the middle of the city, and all the royals love the countryside. I can understand that. It's also not particularly private.
People also forget they are using it, their offices are there, and many parties, banquets, celebrations etc are held there.
