I have been sitting on my Metra pattern, too. I think I need to get at it soon. I have things to make for my new great grands, and a Lincoln top first but number 3 will be Metra.
I love your blazer Whitney - such a classy look and so easy to wear too. I'm going to add this to my to-do list of makes. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this pattern from Southern Spain! 🥰
I really love your Metra Blazer. You look fabulous and yes, you nailed it! I've made four Metra's, all with the wide collar. Now I can't wait to make this version. I may try to purchase the Ponte from Minerva. Thank you for all that you do. I so enjoy all of your videos and tutorials.
This review is right on time! A knit blazer is a must have! I'm making the Metra this month. It's a first for me, so I'm a little nervous about the pockets. Thanks for the Minerva link, I purchased the ponte in dusty orange! I love to wear this color in spring and summer. Wish me luck!
Nailed it! Oh, Whitney…I love this look on you and how fun is it to keep everything on a very neutral plane and then, POW, whip out a bright, colorful hand-bag! Definitely covers the 3 C’s! I’ve had the Metra Blazer pattern since it was introduced, but have yet to sew it up. Being in a wheelchair 50% of the time (100% when I’m out and about) I have to be mindful of what I’m wearing, especially cardigans, jackets, blazers, etc. I’ve decided to do a little hacking on this one and make it more of a Bolero jacket. Thanks for the tip on Ponte fabrics today!
Love your blazer. Like you I love a white blazer but I can't wear white! Ready to wear ones are usually true white, love this idea of making one in ivory! Will definitely be checking out this pattern and fabric. Thank you. 💕
Excellent as always! Your makes and your style are always so inspirational! I have this pattern and it's just waiting for the right fabric, so thank you for the helpful recommendation for the ponte!
Thanks for making this! I've been sitting on this pattern as well, but your version has put it to the head of the list for my spring collection! I love a great cardi, but I am getting "cardi'd out" so this will be a great option!!!
Thank you so much! I was looking for a quick made blazer for an event coming in two weeks. So definitely that's the one for me! I have nearly your shape of body, a bit shorter. It helps me a lot to see how it fits on you. I got so many failures of patterns! Also I have actually got this exact Ponte Roma from Minerva but in Rose Pink.
I can’t believe it!! I work at that market, and I LOVE THOSE BAGS!! I have 2 of the same design in different color ways! I love all of his bags, and the real problem is trying to decide which one to get :)
Loved this - you definitely nailed the look! The blazer looks amazing. I’ve sewn that pattern once before in a scuba and love it. You’ve now inspired me to sew it up again in a ponte this time.
Lovin your new Metra Blazer!❤️ We are very similar heights and measurements, it’s nice to see how well yours fits you. I’ve had this pattern since it’s release last year and some lovely denim look ponte. It’s time to get it done. Thanks for inspiring me Whitney !
You definitely nailed this outfit, Whitney! I understand wanting to use more “practical” fabrics for every day clothes but if you already have the fabric why not just use it? I retired and have a closet full of suits and silk tops. I have this beautiful wardrobe hanging in my closet that is not being worn and I’m trying to figure out what to wear in retirement. I finally decided I’m just going to wear the tops when I go places with my jeans. I have a really nice white linen blazer that I’m using for my white blazer in the spring capsule. It does wrinkle because it’s linen. I will tell you that I wore a jacket to work every day and they didn’t wrinkle. I think you just have to choose the right fabrics - lightweight, all season, wool crepe (sp?), maybe? - if you want to wear jackets. I like the capsule wardrobe. If I can’t figure out what to wear, someone can just tell me! 😂
I completely agree! I am going to make the woven blazer, but I had to pick one for now and this one won. I love wearing beautiful clothes even if I am just at home by myself as well!
TomKat Stitchery I did it, Whitney! My husband & I were running errands and I wore a satin blue top with a black jacket, dark wash jeans and white tennis shoes. I felt great! I’m not sure I’ll get to wearing them around the house but it’s a start 😂
Thanks so much for this review! I didn't purchase the Metra Blazer when it was on sale, as it looked like it had a slanted front. Your version shows the bottom of the blazer lining up at the bottom. May purchase this pattern after all.
Had to comment separate and this has nothing to do with the video but I wanted to make sure you saw it......I've recently made 2 button up collared shirts for my boys and followed your yoke and collar tutorials and oh my I must say I am so proud of myself all thanks to you!!! ❤️ More tutorials that are focused on specific areas of garment construction would be so appreciated! 🤣
@@TomKatStitchery ❤️ your a huge motivation to me but I don't always have time to sew (4 littles and I work full time) but I can say for the first time that I think my shirts actually look professionally done! 🙌
Do you think this would work with a Scuba knit? I have some fabric I bought for the wedding when we had no idea what the date would be. I know it would be heavier but it if was for fall/early winter? The version you chose was perfect for you, I find adding the butterfly front adds the illusion of allot of extra bulk where I don't need it! lol Great choice! Love it!
It would definitely work with a scuba. I've seen quite a few people use scuba (including Karina from Lifting Pins and Needles) and it works really well!
Interesting-didnt know there were different weights of ponte ,thought they were all heavy weight. I learn so much from u ! Love love love your blazer. This outfit is so cool. Unfortunately have injured my shoulder so cant sew for the past 2 wks. Not good ☹ -really want one of these .
Awesome timing! I am putting together a wardrobe plan for an upcoming trip to my hometown in June and I have been debating cardigans and the like for wearing with comfortable dresses... and I was planning to make one in off-white...I had not even thought of this pattern for a comfortable topper... dressy yet comfortable for long car trips :) Do you think a medium to heavier jersey could work?
Thank you for your videos and inspiration projects. Where is the Minerva material shipped from. The prices appear to be in pound. If Europe how long does it take a purchased to arrive in the United States? You also gave a list of websites that you purchase material from here in the states, can you give a link to that list again? Thank again for your assistance.
Minerva is located in the UK so their fabrics come from there. I usually have my items about a week from when they are shipped (which typically just takes a couple of days at most). Their shipping is free if you order over 50 pounds so it's a pretty good deal!
Have you ever thought of coloring your hair brown? It would look so beautiful with your skin tone, the orangey hair just clashes with your absolutely stunningly gorgeous complexion. We all look best in a natural color because it goes with skin tone, undertones, eye color etc.
I bought that pattern and now realize I NEED a white knit blazer in my wardrobe! I’m embarrassed to ask … Is ponte by definition a synthetic fabric? I try to avoid synthetic fabrics unless they’re recycled in an eco-friendly manner. (Not trying to be preachy. This is just what I try to do!) Thanks for the inspiration.
A lot of pontes have polyester in them. I believe this one has some in it, but quite a few are rayon/nylon/spandex blend (still some synthetic content). However, if you can find a good cotton interlock it would work in a similar fashion!
Looking forward to the video about paper bag waist pants. I love the look, but am also short waisted and feel like my boobs are at the top of my pants.
love the jacket. I have never made one, but I would love to have one, maybe in a white.
It is a lovely pattern and works so well in Ponte!
Amazing!!! you look as good as she does !
Thank you!
You look 🔥 in that outfit!!!
Aww! Thank you so much! I felt really good in it!
I love this on you! I don't think I'm in the white-blazer-safe phase of motherhood yet, but it's a classic look and it'll wait for me 😆

I didn't think of that either until my husband made the comment 🙄.

The pockets are super super easy. You don’t really know you’re making them. You cut 4 fronts, one has cut outs for the faux welt.
Kandace is correct. The pockets are sneaky easy. They go together pretty quickly!
Fantastic outfit. Love this blazer xxx

One of the versions has the wide lapels that give it kind of a slanted front. This is the shawl collar version that I've made.

I think a heavy jersey could definitely work. If you go for a medium weight I think it would just look a bit more cardigan, but it would still work!

Yes, shoulder pads (smaller ones, not those 80’s football player pads!) are making a comeback, helping to give structure to the frame.
