I saw Pearl Fishers on opening night last Saturday, and it was magical from start to finish. For instance, I was never a fan of this duet, but when I heard it performed by Stewart and Ford, the music overwhelmed me and I found myself in tears. Sometimes it takes an amazing live performance to make you appreciate a piece for the first time.
I haven't sung this duet in years. It was so nice to hear it again sung so well. Bravi! I stopped to ACTUALLY WATCH the entire thing (a rarity in my crazy schedule). I love you Nmon and can't wait until the next time we get to sing together. Until then, God bless! JasonBlackLIVE
I will listen with interest to everything Noah sings, I am so glad I didn't realise he was so beautiful before I heard him sing, I am still in mourning for the greatest voice of our time, but I think I have found consolation. By the way I am a female, with a great interest in the tenor voice, and a romantic soul.
Just listened to Desert Island Discs on a podcast where Noah was the castaway, never heard his voice until now trawling through You Tube....What a voice and this is one of my favourites anyway!! Bonus
I wish I could attend! Noah Stewart is a very nice surprise...what a penetrating voice! And Nmon is...well..."Da Bomb" to use the vernacular! Warmest regards and congratulations to Michigan Opera Theatre!
I am so happy to hear Noah's voice growing and maturing, and becoming the artist he has worked so hard to become! And they both look too pretty for opera. Why not find an independent black filmmaker and go to Tunisia and make a film of Pecheurs? Great idea, huh? JUST DO IT!
For me, the most emotion version, even beyond the Bjorling/Merrill version is with Beniamino Gigli and Guiseppe De Luca. Gigli's expression and "honeyed" voice is pure gold. The final note is angelic and soft watch?v=FsQJ6_XEJNc As for Noah Stewart, he does have a very warm sounding voice, his Shenandoah is quite nice. Perhaps, the duet didn't work for them that day and hopefully there is much better things to come in the future.
I agree to a point. It is not the greatest duet. Maybe because of the staging. They did not connect. It would seem that the homo-eroticism was taken out of the opera. Which is sad, The words and the sentiment of the piece is totally taken away. While the voices of the individual singer are lovely, They do not unify.
My initial comment has been removed due to negative responses. How pathetic is that? It's clear that many people have difficulty in accepting another persons valid point of view. Bjorling and Merrill give me goose pimples, this pairing don't. I'm not quite sure of the validity of your dress rehearsal comment. They were singing the duet and it doesn't do anything for me. That doesn't mean it's bad, just not the best. In my opinion, that is. Oh,and they still look absurd.
Shame they didn't unify as they ought to do. After all it ends with them saying they'll be brothers till the end, although the end of this duet was cut off but they were too distant on the stage so their actions don't mirror their words. I agree with the fact that the wardrobe and colours used are appalling, looks more like pantomime and far too camp, the costumes may fit the characteristics of the character being portrayed but the colours were awful! The acoustics needed improving too. I would like to see either or both singers try it again together or separately with another singer. Personally I prefer Terfel and Boccini!

Nmon Ford is great! What a gorgeous voice. Noah Stewart...I don't know. I hope he takes care of his voice
It's a dress rehearsal. Don't you think that might make a difference?
Are there no French diction coaches around these days - you can't sing French that way without screwing up the stress of the musical line.

Sorry folks, but this left me cold, and they looked absurd. Thank goodness for Bjorling and Merrill.
