thanks for making this video. one therapist tried to do emdr with me and I wanted so badly to but I wasn't able to picture a safe place. I made something up because I felt like I had to there was just an assumption that we can all do it and maybe I can but i have tried SO hard, I practiced for HOURS trying. I couldn't come up with anything that actually felt calm or safe.
Great video. Did my first EMDR with a new therapist yesterday, I've had so much fear and trauma in my life that it made it very hard to even get to her place. Anyway even doing this first safe place excersise made me realise I've been struggling all my life with something entirely different than I thought.
Thank you. I struggled so much with this part of EMDR. Obviously, this is a common issue if it necessitated a video. My therapist did great helping me find ways that worked for me.
I've also heard the tapping you're speaking of (around 2:12 ) referred to as - giving yourself "butterfly hugs" 😊 ...perhaps more applicable in different circumstances... just wanted to share that in hopes that it's helpful, whether with children or anywhere else it may fit!🤗💖
So is the safe space also supposed to be a bad memory suppressed? What if you only still feel safe and don’t have anxiety come up or anger? The tapping made me a little anxious but only because it was repetitive feeling on my skin.

I thought the tapping for the safe/calm place was suppose to only be 4-8 passes.
