    Very important distinction right there. Makes perfect sense.

    Managers do all of these things as well. The distinction between managers and leaders is often hyped up and reflects a stereotypical bifurcation rather than a qualitatively distinct reality. In truth, many leaders need to manage operations and many managers need to inspire people.

    I'm very impressed with this video. I'm sad to say the my manager is leaving my company and she's been the ideal leader, supporting, motivating and constructive. She was the anti-manager. She encouraged idea building and freedom to choose how the work gets done. I love this video because it reinforces my beliefs about the best people to work with. My former leader, not manager, acted as a partner with me in our business rather than a person who needed to breathe down my neck and enforce unimportant guidelines and regulations. I grew instead of retreated as a result.

      Hi there. I am an upcoming manager. Is it possible that you'd be able to teach me some tips?

    • @selflovesciencepodcast867
      @selflovesciencepodcast867 2 года назад

      @@melvinstolk8191 I am now a leader myself and have had the opportunity to be surrounded by really incredible leadership. 1. If you're managing people, create the goals together.
      2. You can be responsible for the "what" of what the team needs to get done and allow the team to drive the "how" of what to get done. This is the agile approach to leadership.
      3. Allow the team to make mistakes. Failures trigger emotional responses which lead to change. If the team is afraid of a leader breathing over their necks, they will never grow. They will only retreat. Focus on what the team is doing well, take those success steps and apply them to your next round of work. If the team fails at 99/100 things, analyze what part of the *process* isn't working. Never focus on making people wrong. If employees are not succeeding, fix the process and coach the people.

    This video brought a lot of information to the surface on the topic of leadership. As a leader you have to understand and deliver in your role. The reason why is because people are depending on you and looking to you to make the decisions that will ultimately affect them one way or another on a daily basis.
    On the otter hand as a manager you are focusing more on the fact that your employees have a job to do and your role is to ensure that job gets completed on time. These are two very different approaches and this video does a great job of comparing and contrasting between the two. The B.E.C.C analogy was perfectly stated and the concept is excellent.
    Thank you for sharing the information!

(Nothing major) It was around seven years ago because of anger, I took a project, started "bending" some rules (basically what you just pointed out.) and found myself being promoted. The best note a Manager gave me while giving me a promotion was, “he only cares about doing the right thing, and that is why he is currently the best.” Your speech is, “The best.” Keep it up!

    good video, something to remember though that you need attributes from both sides depending on the staff and the task at hand. What is also really good to note is that the roles of leadership, management and follow for any individual should change depending on what is needed to deliver the best.
    sometime leaders need to follow and mangers need to lead
