@@sinsoftheswamp8346 Everything about that show just neatly captured the feeling of the "young film maker" vibe, but with sharper writing. And it does take a significant amount of talent to craft lyrics that should sound terrible, but actually sound great. "Word Smithing".
Brendon Small is no joke. I just listened to his solo albums and finally watched Metalocalypse after all these years, the guy has incredible talent

To me outside of it just making the show much more entertaining and turning what's usually the worst part of shows into the best part of the show. I think it's to punctuate an important theme throughout Home Movies; how underestimated kids are. In the show Dwayne is an incredibly talented musician, but based on face value you'd just assume he's a try hard edgy teen. It really adds to his character and a big part of the show.
"Welcome to Heaven, Franz. My name is God. I think you're going to like it here." is such an underappreciated line

Brendan Small flexes his musical talent in the most humble way
Yeah, he says he loves he was able to be sloppy in the HM days. He was an amazing guitarist and singer then but he loved how he was able to let his skills slip and still be able to do Scäb. Then he got Metalocalypse and had to practice like crazy to tighten it up.

One of my favorite little details is the cue card Jason is holding where Brendon clearly ran out of marker and changed colors half way through. Like, that's brilliant for some reason.
Favorite animated show.
I thought that was to put emphasis on the certain parts of the lyrics, but I did think it's cause he ran out of marker... I don't know the first thing about cue cards tho...

Criminally underrated show
This is my three year old's favorite song. He begs to hear it. He recently got a little guitar and he graces us all with his rocking renditions - "WIVING WIKE A BUG AINT EASYYYYY!"

This would be the only rock opera ide pay and happily sit through, then buy the album and listen to it all the time.
I showed this to my AP English teacher when we were reading Metamorphosis. She probably thinks I need professional help now, but it was worth it.
It's a sad reality, but it's kind of insane that some times English/Literature teachers think their students are insane for like, you know, enjoying "modern literature" (tv/film)

“You’re like James Dean” gets me every time, I have no idea why I find it so funny. Maybe it’s the fact that a little kid in the early ‘00s even knows who James Dean was, or that he’s comparing a Hollywood icon some high schooler he knows.

Just read a lot of Kafka (The Penal Colony collection, highly recommend), and I suddenly got these songs stuck in my head. Haven't seen this in almost 20 years. Ten-year-old me says "Hi" I guess.
I love Kafka's work, and I love Home Movies.

i remember back in 2012 visiting prague and hearing this song playing in my head especially when we got to around to his house
I literally read Metamorphosis because of this. I really enjoyed it! It's my favorite man-becomes-bug story!
I vividly remember waking up to this at 4am in middle school and recording Home Movies just to watch it again, and it began my obsession with this show, and this song has been living rent free in my head since then. I know I'm late to the party but I took a shot in the dark and found this video ❤

Haha, in the god scene brendan is behind the tree moving a mirror reflecting the sun into the camera lens and in real life it would probably look like the sun or god was talking to you because the camera would be blinded, that's so cool.
Thank you for a great job of editing all the music together! This is a classic episode. The section that goes "Livin' Like a Bug Ain't Easy" is so pretty -- and it's in 5/4 time, which is nicely unusual.
Every rock opera has to have a rock ballad, and I can't get "Livin' Like A Bug Ain't Easy" out of my head. lol!

Home Movies has got to have the coolest original music of any TV Show.
So much more than a cartoon, figuratively speaking.
I’m back after so many years, and this is still amazing.
One of the hardest what ifs I've ever thought of would be between bringing back metalocalypse for 1 more season plus another movie or bringing back home movies for at least 5 more seasons.

Brilliant! I was just watching the DVD commentary and evidently the original idea was to do a rock opera on Tron. But since the schedule was so tight, they didn't have time to deal with Disney's lawyers so they decided to go for something public domain. Jesus Christ Superstar was taken, so they went with Kafka.
Im kinda of sad I dismissed Home Movies and ignored it when I started getting into "adult" cartoons and shows, but im glad I can come back when I actually really love the deep cut jokes like Kafka and workplace "drama"
