Great tutorial as always!! Just a tip to the community that helped me: Instead of rotating your camera to recenter your 360 footage you can add an 'Offset' node after the MediaIn and move your footage tis way by offsetting the X value. The you won't need to rotate additional elements - lights etc - that you want to face camera. Just another way to do it.

I use this node setup with the SphericalCamera node when adding 3D text, adding a video using ImagePlane, or simply to rotate the viewing angle of a 360 video where the camera was facing the wrong way during filming. However, simply adding the SphericalCamera node results in the render time slowing to an absolute crawl; about 1 frame per 2 seconds, about a quarter the speed of what it normally takes my system to render. I'm seeing 15 hour+ render times for a 4 minute video when I am simply overlaying a 480p video on top of it. (Also, adding the SphericalCamera node for some reason rotates my video by 90 degrees by default and doubles the resolution, resulting in weird effects when adding tracking objects, but I suppose that's a different issue) Anyway, so the question is: Is there a way to re-orient 360 videos OR add text/video to a 360 video as shown here WITHOUT using a SphericalCamera node, OR is there a way to do so without killing my render times in the process?

Hugh I really appreciate all of your work in helping us learn and develop in the 360 space. I am working in DaVinci and have been trying to figure how sync and orient h3-vr ambix files with my video and orient it with Rhodes Soundfield (i think its working). I wonder if you have been using davinci resolve as a part of your 360 Audio workflow. I wonder if you might be interested in adding an audio workflow based in davinci. I guess i wonder if its worth trying to use fairlight for some of these audio workflows.
Great video. You pack so much info into your videos. They are the only ones I watch on slow mo vs sped up. I am following your directions, but my video is reversed. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Hi, thanks for your expertise, really cool! It won't let me change to 5760 x 2880 even though I chose custom for the timeline resolution. None of the options will let me enter that. Is there a reason why?
Hello, I have a strange view , I use a Media in with a shop name on a wall . This video is applied to the shape3D but on the outside of the Sphere , then when you use the SphericalCamera and you are in the sphere , then the text is flipped . Shouldnt the video applied in the sphere instead of outside ? To understand, the camera position will be the VR headset position so inside the Sphere. Then how to flip video ? I don"t see any param and those in Cut doen't do anything. Your help is appréciated Boss ;) !
Thanks for explaining this workflow for creating a 360 environment and getting the equirectangular output to the timeline. super helpful on my current project to get a 360 environment without video input so then i can animate the titles and graphics in a blank 360 environment.
Nice! I am honest just scratching the surface. Fusion with full 3D env can do so much. With STMap - you have Nuke like workflow! I will cover more on third party node trees to make all those happen
Thanks Hugh, great tutorial. I tried to follow along and I would like to know, how long does it take to render the MP4 video (i know it will be dependent on the processing power of your machine). However, I am working with a 3:41 ProRes 422 clip exported from Insta360 and it estiimates over 2 days to render. Usually for a 2 minute regular 4K video output render may take 2 minutes or so to render. I am usuing a Dell XPS15 laptop. Is this normal for 360 videos to take over 2 days to render for a 3 min + clip? Since asking this question, I now get an error "Your GPU memory is full. Try reducing the timeline resolution or the number of correctors" however, when I check GPU memory in Task Manager, it is showing only 3% utilization (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050) and system memory is 80% utilized (32GB DDR4 RAM)
There is something wrong with you computer sound like. Maybe your GPU is giving up? You can turn off GPU render. But I will look into fixing your computer and get a new one.
Thanks for the great information! I am having a strange issue with 3d spherical camera. It seems to be changing my fusion resolution to 7680x3840xfloat16, which is the wrong aspect ratio, so back in edit tab I get black bars again. Why is it doing this? I can't figure out how to change it properly. It also makes rendering challenging since the fusion comp is rendering so big before downscaling it back to timeline resolution (3840x2160)
@@hughhou I'd really love to hear about a solution to this! As in your tutorial here, I'm working with 5760x2880 and the Render3D is turning this to 11520x5760, as shown in your video. On one of your other videos someone asked about using 2 DJI Action 2's for VR and you said that it was linear and only 155 degrees which would not work. Great video, it helped a lot. I have a 360 tribute video I'm doing where I need to add pictures the same way you added the PIP, but I need to add 9, but not all at once and want them to come in and out at different points in the timeline. What you show here is great, but doing as you've shown makes it there from start to finish.
Thank you. You can just nest all point you need to insert, cut the clip to exact duration of your insert and nest them info Fusion clip. Then after you done, you can copy all the nodes form Fusion to the next one so you don't need to do it again.
Thank you, Hugh! Love your videos. I made it work, not exactly sure how to do what you mentioned, but I may have done it or similar. I made 9 cuts of the video in my timeline and did everything you mentioned to one of them and then copied them to the others, though I had to edit each after that. I'm so lost without After Effects. I know enough about video editing (an expert in AE) to see how powerful Davinci Resolve is and I own the studio version, but my main complaint between the two is how easy AE is to see ALL of my points of animations, or anything I am making key frames for. At the press of a simple T, I can bring up opacity, set my in and out, move the key frames and SEE where they are on my timeline. I'm blown away at what I've seen can be done in fusion, but AE being able to adjust key frames in such a simple way is hard to leave for something as frustrating as Davinci's way about not having such a simple editing process. Appreciate the help!

There's one catch to this: when inside the sphere (in Fusion) everything is reflected. So before the sphere 2:16 after the sphere and all other nodes 10:55. Check out the white lines on the road. The image is indeed reflected. I've not found a way in fusion to rectify the reflected video (but then I only started using it yesterday) but I got around the problem by using a transform on the timeline, although I haven't rendered the video yet. Is there a way to avoid the reflection in Fusion?
@@hughhou When you add Transform after Render3D1, the text will be flipped too. Did it after MediaIN and now seems to be ok. Beside that excellent tutorial video. love it!

Any ideas? Anyone? Would super much appreciate it!
I am wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as me. When i create a sphere following the video, my footage only fills half of the sphere? Im wondering if its because i am using the free version so my resolution is 4k instead of 8k? Thank you!

I fallow along but when in Fuision, i conect media in with shape3d and i am looking inside the sphare the Picture and everything is mirrored, at the end i had to mirror the text to get a normal result in Media Out. Any idea why that happend ?
Yes you do need to transform or "mirror" then back. Try this new workflow might be easier for you if you have 18 Studio: ruclips.net/video/xnLKbrR9ROY/видео.html

You need to use the meta in FFMPEG or try google spatial injector or just use the VR180 creator tool free from Google.
What is the best way to convert the insv format of insta360 to mov as you had?
Insta360 Studio - their own software.
Hi Hugh, it's taking about 4hrs to render a 1 min 360 video at 5.7k with text but 12 min without the text. I'm running an NVIDIA 1080 and AMD 12-core on a PC. Do you think I need a much more powerful GPU or are there settings on the software side I need to adjust to bring the render time down?
Yes unfortunately you need powerful GPU
Great video and thank you 1000 for sharing this great informations :-). I got a RF5.2 for my R5C and video editing in 180 VR is thank to you easy. The one thing what don't funktion up to now is, the workingh with text in the 180 degrees videos. I Tryed with this video instruction for 360 VR, but while animation and inserting the text in the 3D sphere funktions, after the rendering it will be placed in the oculus only on one eye... I'm still trying to find out where I make the mistake.
Did you check the Resolve tutorial on VR180? I will come back on more detailed tutorial on this topic.
@Hugh Hou thank you. Yes, 2h later, it was working, as I checked the other video :-). You do a great job, it is really helpful 👍💪😀
No I use Reaper still. Bound the audio track out and then use ProTool or Reaper - same as Premiere - they are not audio software
Always amazing man! :D
Thanks!
Definitely want to say thank you for the content. Very informative and inspiring👍 appreciate it.
My pleasure!
Great video. You pack so much info into your videos. They are the only ones I watch on slow mo vs sped up.
I am following your directions, but my video is reversed. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I think you need to add a transform note the flip direction. Thank you so much!
@@hughhou Thanks. Can you point me to the right transform? I'm trying the Transform3D, but none of the adjustments seem to do anything,
Hi, thanks for your expertise, really cool! It won't let me change to 5760 x 2880 even though I chose custom for the timeline resolution. None of the options will let me enter that. Is there a reason why?
Did you uncheck match timeline and then type in the number? That is strange...
Are you using the free version of Resolve? It only supports up to 4k.
I have a solution for you and it is the tutorial coming out tomorrow. Hold tight and sorry for the late respond
Very useful
Glad to hear that
@@hughhou cool drone aspect is a plus so let s go
Thanks Hugh, great tutorial.
@@hughhou okay thanks Hugh. Do you have any recommendations for the minimum pc requirements to handle 360 Video processing?
Thanks for the great information!
I am having a strange issue with 3d spherical camera. It seems to be changing my fusion resolution to 7680x3840xfloat16, which is the wrong aspect ratio, so back in edit tab I get black bars again. Why is it doing this? I can't figure out how to change it properly. It also makes rendering challenging since the fusion comp is rendering so big before downscaling it back to timeline resolution (3840x2160)
I have a solution for you and it is the tutorial coming out tomorrow. Hold tight and sorry for the late respond
@@hughhou I'd really love to hear about a solution to this! As in your tutorial here, I'm working with 5760x2880 and the Render3D is turning this to 11520x5760, as shown in your video. At 16bit per pixel per channel that is half a gigabyte per frame! This is insane and beyond what my machine can cope with. I've been searching for a few days, but can't find any way to deal with this problem.
Doh, I didn't read properly, you published the solution a month ago. For others, here's the link ruclips.net/video/xnLKbrR9ROY/видео.html. @hughhou, you are my hero!
hi hugh, great tutorial. Say, when i render, my PC only uses the CPU and doesn't use the GPU at all (I have studio). Do you know how to use the GPU? (I have selected CUDA & my graphic card in the general options). cheers
It should use fully GPU. Mmmm - something is wrong as Resolve is GPU default
@@hughhou I also noticed that Resolve relies heavily on CPU. When i check control alt del it shows that i am only using approx 14-18% of my beefy GPU (3090 RTX). Fusion rendering is very slow even with proxy.
You are YT360MASTER :D Congrats, and thanks ;)
Thanks 😁
Hi, thanks a lot for all your knowledge but this workflow to add title create a mirror Effect to video input, I make a screenshot of your video at two moments and even for you this mirror effect occurs, do you know how to solve it? (MediaIN left became MediaOut Right after Shape3D+merge3D+Renderer3D)
Forget, I figure out how to solve problem: a Transform node just after MediaIn with Filp.Horiz solve it, lol
Yes!
What drone did you use? and what is the attachment? can you recommend it? I had one that look similar but it was pretty flakey.
I will do an indepth in the next tutorial coming very soon :)
how can we track the 360 footage and add a 3d Object in davinci? I am walking with my 360 camera and while I would like to highlight an area with a 3d arrow which should be stuck to that area and I should be walking by to and away from it. Hope I made the problem clear.
Hi Hugh, I need some help. I have followed your tutorial closely and managed to add the 3D Text into my 360 Video. However, I realised my video is inverted. Meaning to say all the words in the video is read from right to left. How do I correct this?
So when project inside the sphere - everything is flip. You can add a transfer node to flip the back to normal. I hope this help.
@@hughhou Thank you for dispensing all these useful and free information, otherwise people would pay to learn. Thanks dai lo.
Which adapter are you using for the drone and 360camera?
Tutorial and adapter will be coming in the next tutorial :)
When I create a sphere and dolly in the resulting image is mirrored. Any idea how to fix this?
You can add a node to flip it.
Hi Hugh. I'm back in 360 after a break from it. My fusion resolution all of the sudden goes from 5376x2688 to something like 10600x?. I remember you commented on this somewhere, but can't seem to find it. Could you point me to the right tutorial, so I can understand this better. Thx
Wait, what you mean it sudden upscaled?
@@hughhou I might have been away from it too long. Can see in 360 resolution it also says a big number in your example. - While I got you. To get better playback I change my rendernote to quartersize (width and height). Put a stickynote as reminder and then change before render. Is this a way to go or am I missing something?(cause it really gives me smooth playback). Thx for all your great work. You are my goto 360 expert😎/Soren
On one of your other videos someone asked about using 2 DJI Action 2's for VR and you said that it was linear and only 155 degrees which would not work. I found a video of someone using that setup and it does cover the view, but barely. I have never edited 180 footage and was wondering if it would be possible to use this tutorial to move the camera slightly closer to the image to increase the perceived FOV or would it create too much of a distorted image?
Can you send me the example video - that require some VFX works.
@@hughhou I downloaded the video to try editing it for test purposes, but I am not knowledgeable enough to edit it properly. I will reply again with the link but every link I post on your feed has always been deleted.

Hi, when using the imageplane to insert a 2d video, when I enlarge using the scaling, the video inside the sphere become very rounded, not a perfect rectangle. How to increase the size of the video by maintaining the rectangle shape of the video?
Unfortunately Blackmagic doesn’t seem to intend to ever release Studio 17 to the public. I’ve been trying to buy it for 2 months.
I order the 17 + FREE controller on B&H and it just came in mail - the order demand is pretty high so there is a long wait period but they are shipping.
Good Work ! =)
Thanks!
Long time ago but I have a question , when it's done , the rendering in 5760x2880 for VR headset take 3H for 2mins clips. on RTX3070ti + 32Gb I7 9700 cpu , any way to optimise /increase the speed ?
Which software. Resolve 18? Sound not right - it should not take that long
@@hughhou Even by running this delivery on a different beast (RTX4090 , 64Gb Ryzen 9 5950X it takes 50mins for 15sec video. I'm using the same params as in your tuto , source file is a ProRes422. I have the issue with any version of Resole (now using the studio 18.1.4) . I'm just inserting a text3D and a background color behind.
the side to side controls do not work with those keys you say, it will be on mac in any case.
Appreciate the help!
please just put a link, your pop up is not link to video but a full list of your video, and it disappear too quickly. whole thing is just not viewer friendly.
but really love how you show the steps in details which make you stand out from the rest. would have miss the tips of force debayer to high quality for eg.
why is my footage mirrored once i create the 3D Sphere?
My image got flipped inside fusion when following your instructions. Why?
Yes, you will need a transform tool to flip it back in the sphere - I format to mention that. My bad.
@@hughhou Which transform tool? Where do you put it and which value do we need to change? Thanks.
@@hughhou Hello Hugh, where should i place the transform tool? Between Renderer3D and MediaOut?
I don't know what I am doing wrong but when I try to add text it's gonna mirror the movie :-/ Can you help me out?
You need to transform it back by flipping it. Since you are adding inside a sphere :)
@@hughhou Where can I do that? It's only the movie I need to flip, not the text. Text is the right way.
Yes you can flip it back with a transform node!
@@hughhou Thanks.
@@hughhou When you add Transform after Render3D1, the text will be flipped too. Did it after MediaIN and now seems to be ok. Beside that excellent tutorial video. love it!
Hi Hugh, which are the characteristics of your PC, I-ve bought mine in 2024 but it is not as fluent as yours!
I have a review on this channel about AI PC - but I have Nvidia RTX 4090 and i9 on my pc laptop!
Question : I have problems making 3D elements become true 3D in a 360 / 3D space - the elements render correctly perspective wise, but I seem not to get the spherical camera to really deliver the true 3D offset despite having a stereo render and eye distance settings. Any ideas? Anyone? Would super much appreciate it!
Hi Hugh do you make video for people and how much a video would cause
I am wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as me. When i create a sphere following the video, my footage only fills half of the sphere?
Im wondering if its because i am using the free version so my resolution is 4k instead of 8k?

have you tried my newest tutorial on this topic? Yes, if your footage is more than 3840 X 1920, you need Studio as the input is limited - ruclips.net/video/xnLKbrR9ROY/видео.htmlsi=8GY0wzFO7QxuJ5OH

Did you use the Google Meta injection tool to inject the meta before upload - it mentioned in the end of the video
Curiously, this process leads to the 360 video being mirrored! Compare the 360 video preview at 4:20 with the 360 video preview at 6:00. 😶
