I always remember Alan Gorrie's comments on how the band looked to Robbie for keeping the funk going and if it was groovin' that he'd cast an disapproving eye at them... RIP, Robbie.

as a drummer it's refreshing to hear the tiny "mistakes" - it makes it more real and even better imho... you can't do this with a computer, the spontaneous variations that mesh perfectly with the music and give it such a feel are what make this so beautiful

This guy had such amazing feel - and he was only a youngster when he died. Imagine if he'd had a few more decades...

Such a great groove, with lots of syncopation and turn-arounds and all the other tasty things.

Awesome drum track. The whole groove is beautiful. Pocket and swing so deep. My favourite moment is that fill right near the end… sooo slinky/funky!!! Thanks for sharing this.

Yes!!! In that fill, Robbie jumps up and crawls around on top of that groove, then slides back into it. He’s my all time favorite drummer. I wish I had more of him to hear.

Smooth as silk, and as for 3:40, it really is like "melted chocolate dripping off a spoon" to quote the late Curtis Little, via his extremely talented son.

Wow. For some reason I always thought the drums for this song were recorded by Steve Ferrone...

I liked Robbie the best. No disrespect to Steve. Steve did ctc, ss, awb live. Great snare on Soul Searching album.
